Chapter 211: So Useless
Lin Lin tried to get closer to the giant creature.
It looked both anxious and alert, showing courage that was completely different from its size. When Lin Lin approached it, she noticed that the creature lowered its head. It even tried to bury its head under its claws to avoid Lin Lin’s gaze.
So… useless, truly a comforting kind of cowardice.
Lin Lin admitted that she sometimes was indeed a weak person who was afraid of the strong.
Like now, she was not very afraid of this big creature because of its caution.
"Are you afraid of me?" Lin Lin asked.
The rain was still falling, and the whole demon realm was under the control of Your Majesty the Demon King; perhaps this was also a reflection of his mood.
This monster could understand her language.
When Lin Lin spoke, the monster, whose head had been slightly drooping, lifted it up, and its violet eyes looked back at Lin Lin.
Rainwater soaked the human woman.
Lin Lin wore a loose white dress; for habit, she always chose dresses with big pockets, where she could put little things she found along the way.
Although Lin Lin was an accountant, she clearly did not have the serious image associated with some accountants. In her daily life, she was quite carefree and only took numbers and documents seriously while working.
This is great; this dress seems a little waterproof, Lin Lin thought. Then she started to worry if the rain would soak the things in her pockets.
Lin Lin finally stood before the huge monster that hovered over Demon King Castle, and she could reach out and touch its rain-soaked claw.
Unlike Lin Lin, the monster’s scales easily kept water away; unless the surface was very flat, the rain would just slide off its body.
Lin Lin recalled the Demon King’s opinion of her original form—very cute.
It seemed that this Majesty did not have a full understanding of themselves; most of the time, such a large and fearsome-looking monster could not be called cute.
But perhaps, for the demon race, this form is considered cute?
Lin Lin sighed lightly, realizing that she had thought of a defense for him before the majesty spoke.
It is always like this, isn’t it? Humans and other races have different ideas, so Lin Lin has come to accept things she once found strange.
This time, Lin Lin finally touched the Demon King’s claw covered in black scales.
The smooth, shiny, and cold feeling was as hard as stone.
Knowing that this appearance did not match human beauty standards, the Demon King had not shown this side in front of Lin Lin before.
"Why did you change into this form?" Lin Lin began, "Let me think, maybe it’s because of too much sadness, transforming into a state driven by instinct, or perhaps you are avoiding my cold treatment?"
The other party obviously did not respond at all.
"There is one thing I need to tell you in advance: I cannot continue to indulge you this time." Lin Lin’s voice was calm, "So pretending to be foolish is pointless."
Because today’s events are related to the future of the demon realm, the future of the demon realm in the parallel universe.
Still no answer.
Lin Lin took a step back.
The huge creature did not move at all; it even blinked very slowly.
Maybe it really has degenerated, but compared to the degenerated demon race, humans are truly the fragile ones. Lin Lin decided to stop standing in the rain.
She turned around and walked toward the small door on the roof.
Just a moment.
As soon as she took her first step, Lin Lin felt the wind blow from behind her neck and realized she had made a wrong decision.
The giant claw, which she had just touched and was clearly enormous but had not caught her attention, grabbed her.
She was grabbed around her waist, and the monster flew into the sky.
"Ahhh—" Lin Lin’s scream echoed throughout Demon King Castle.
–
I’m so foolish, really. I only knew that the Demon King couldn’t leave Demon King Castle, but I forgot that this place is not the real world.
Lin Lin had never thought about some possibilities before, like becoming a princess in another country, then being captured by an evil dragon and saved by a knight, and so on.
Great, just great. She had crossed over to the side of the villains, and being captured by a monster made her completely give up hope.
Held by the monster’s sharp claws, Lin Lin looked towards the misty sun.
Interestingly, although she could see many mountains and plains from the tall tower in Demon King Castle, when the monster carried Lin Lin toward the edge of Demon King Castle, all she saw below was an endless forest.
It seems that because she had never truly seen the scenery outside Demon King Castle, her imagination was lacking; the only place familiar to Your Majesty the Demon King was the forest closest to him.
Lin Lin thought that taking this creature outside for a walk would make it see how dull the outside world was and bring her back.
But Lin Lin was wrong.
It really had a place to stay outside, which Lin Lin called its nest.
Your Majesty the Demon King is building a nest.
Although it sounds a bit strange, Lin Lin couldn’t think of a better word.
The underground nest was warm and damp; Lin Lin used her magic wand to light up a few white little balls to brighten the nest.
In this space, Lin Lin’s power was limited, and the Demon King’s hard shell looked stronger than its human form.
It sealed the entrance.
Lin Lin sat on a pile of soft, tough hay; she couldn’t tell what kind it was when it was wet, let alone after it had dried.
The rain has not stopped, and Lin Lin can smell a strong scent of dampness.
Lin Lin sat bored for a while, then took off her shoes and lay down on the hay.
Sometimes smells are better at bringing back memories, and many of Lin Lin’s memories are related to rain.
The puddles she stepped through on her way to school in the mornings during her youth, and the rainwater splashed by car tires next to the sidewalk after work.
And also, many of the rainy days at the Demon King Castle.
On rainy days, many races tend to become sluggish, while the orca brothers and the Dark Elf become much more excited.
Thinking about it, the first time she went out with Felix also happened to be a rainy day, making it hard to tell if he did it on purpose.
Lin Lin heard a noise at the cave entrance. To prevent rainwater from flowing into the cave, although Your Majesty the Demon King was not good at making nests, thanks to his racial traits, he did not simply dig a hole underground and call it finished, but rather designed the entrance to the lair.
Even after hearing the sounds of monsters approaching around the corner, Lin Lin did not get up; she glanced up after the Demon King truly entered the cave.
The creature, with its upper face hidden by a golden mask, bit onto a large bundle of dry grass and returned here.
…How strange. Lin Lin thought of the birds outside that carried dry twigs back to build their nests.
It spread a thick layer of grass in the nest, making it drier and softer.
Lin Lin watched it do these things.
The creature made the pile of grass a little bigger, being careful since Lin Lin was still sitting on it, moving gently.
In the end, the creature curled up, taking up half of the grass pile; its size was so big that the original pile just barely fit its whole body. Now its tail completely hung down, touching the ground.
This grass nest was half for it and half for Lin Lin.
It lay down with a hint of sadness, while Lin Lin’s side was spacious enough to set up a breakfast stand.
The creature closed its eyes, looking ready to sleep.
Lin Lin stood up, walked in its direction, and saw the creature shrink away. It continued to edge closer.
"You’re scared of me, but you still caught me," Lin Lin thought it was very strange.
The creature’s closed eyes opened again.
Lin Lin smiled and waved at it, and it hesitated but moved slightly towards her.
The human size was too small for the creature; it still carried the dampness of the rain outside. Lin Lin reached out and touched a cool part of the creature’s body.
Lin Lin still believed that Your Majesty the Demon King likely chose to turn back into his original form just to avoid her saying "I don’t like him."
She had a strong instinct when it came to catching Your Majesty the Demon King’s fox tail. She hardly ever missed, even better than Safir.
She thought for a moment, lowered her head, pressed her face against the creature’s body, and patted its scales. "I still really like you, but you were too willful this time."
The violet eyes closed, looking as if they didn’t understand her words.
Lin Lin said, "Even though I am two hundred years in the past, I have always thought about going back. I especially worry about you all at Demon King Castle."
The creature looked at me without moving, but its tail, which had been hanging down, suddenly lifted high and swayed in the air, and the spikes on it became soft.
Lin Lin sighed again, "Well, forget it. I won’t hug you. You look a bit scary like this. I prefer your human form."
One second. Two seconds. Three seconds.
The creature that had been pressing against Lin Lin’s arm suddenly exploded into black mist with a loud bang, and the young man with long hair dove into Lin Lin’s embrace with a look of grievance.
Lin Lin skillfully grabbed the young man’s throat, holding him tightly.
