Chapter 196: Under Normal Circumstances
Lin Lin thought that the "experiment" mentioned by Teacher Safir was just a joke, until she was actually pushed to the center of the room in front of the black mist.
Lin Lin had seen many different forms of black mist countless times, making her quite familiar with it.
Most of the time, the black mist expanded naturally, like human breathing, but the mist before her moved slowly and weakly.
"You could say I have frozen it," the Sapphire Dragon said, standing behind Lin Lin, with a deep voice coming from above her.
"Very interesting," Safir said about the experiment conclusion that Lin Lin did not find interesting, "This swirling force is clearly aligned with the God of Darkness’s energy, yet it has other thoughts."
"Other thoughts?" Lin Lin repeated Safir’s words, and then the young man grabbed her hand from behind, bringing her fingertip close to the black mist.
The black mist first retreated in surprise, but then a small wisp, like a tail, tentatively wrapped around Lin Lin’s fingertip. Soon, as if it confirmed a secret, this little wisp completely wrapped around Lin Lin’s knuckles.
"This black mist was found in the God of Darkness’s room," the Sapphire Dragon slowly began, "I remember that you once caused an explosion in that room."
Although she did not want to admit it, it was clear she couldn’t deny it. Lin Lin gave a dry response with one syllable, "Oh."
"That explosion might have something to do with it, an unusual dark mist," Safir added, "and it seems it really likes you."
Lin Lin noticed this too.
Even though Safir was holding her hand close to the dark mist, the mist was tightly wrapped around her hand, pushing Safir away. The tip of the mist formed a small black spike, trying to intimidate the Dragon race and make him let go of Lin Lin’s hand.
Safir didn’t take it seriously at all.
When the small spike shot towards Safir, it broke and did not harm the strong, thick-skinned Sapphire Dragon.
Ah… Lin Lin suddenly felt unnecessary sympathy; it looked a bit sad.
With Safir’s hint, Lin Lin remembered some details about the explosion, like when the God of Darkness tried to trap her in the room, and as she pried open the window to jump out, there was indeed a wisp of dark mist anxiously hovering over her arm’s wound, drifting away from the main group.
Safir waved his hand to separate the dark mist from Lin Lin’s hand. He didn’t need to touch the mist; it moved back to the center of the room as if he had tossed a paper ball in the air.
Lin Lin thought for half a second. She walked to the left, and the black mist grew thicker on that side. She turned to the right, and the black mist on the right became dense.
Lin Lin turned back confidently and said, "This is good mist."
Lin Lin was very sure that anyone who liked her was a good character.
Safir crossed his arms and spoke in a deep, melodic voice, unique to Dragon race, with a hint of sarcasm, "That’s wonderful; you’re not even willing to rest your ignorant and reckless mind in front of me."
That was wonderful. Lin Lin felt calm inside. He was starting to become more like Safir from two hundred years later in some small ways, which was probably the natural form of someone managing a makeshift team.
How should I put it? After hearing more sarcastic comments, Lin Lin’s skin had toughened. Now, words that came her way didn’t hurt her at all.
The young dragon noticed Lin Lin’s indifference, and its sapphire eyes stared at her.
"You still need to improve," Lin Lin patted Safir’s shoulder. "The future you is even harsher."
Safir sent Lin Lin away with a gust of wind.
–
The swirling black mist seemed to provoke the fragile demon realm, and the cracks in the sky grew larger.
"I really am not someone who can accomplish great things," Lin Lin sat cross-legged on the roof of Demon King Castle, watching the sunlight shining through the cracks onto the ground.
After a few seconds of silence, Lin Lin turned her head and looked at the other person with folded wings sitting on the roof, "How can someone like you not know how to chat? You should ask me why."
Sunshine poured down on the roof of Demon King Castle, shimmering in gold.
"Normally, my job doesn’t involve this," the angel with golden hair sat straight, contrasting sharply with Lin Lin, who rested her chin on her hand.
He tilted his head slightly, looking at Lin Lin, meeting her clear deep brown eyes.
Twanasha realized that if he did not comply with the wishes of the human woman in front of him, she would likely be unhappy. The Fallen Angel sighed subtly, "Why?"
"I am not a cool and decisive person," Lin Lin replied.
The two people stared at each other.
After listening for a while to the thousands of fleeting thoughts and various complaints in the human woman’s mind, Twanasha nodded, "That’s true."
Lin Lin, "Give me a denial!"
Why do you agree so much?
Fallen Angel coldly focused on Lin Lin, "There are too many thoughts passing through your mind, I don’t know which one is the right answer."
He openly revealed the cheating method.
Lin Lin had even begun to get used to opening her mind in front of Twanasha.
Lin Lin reached out and made a gesture of opening her head, as if taking out something from her mind that didn’t exist, and handed it to Twanasha.
Twanasha caught the empty thought, and Fallen Angel stared at the human woman; at that moment, she truly looked blank.
Twanasha naturally threw that thought away.
Lin Lin, "…It’s reading! You have to make it look like you are reading!"
Lin Lin questioned the way of playing Fallen Angel.
"There’s no time…" Twanasha replied calmly, looking down, "It’s already broken."
Aren’t you quite skilled in this game? Lin Lin began to doubt if Twanasha was, in some way, a natural dark horse.
He really should have left the customer service position early; it was too cruel.
The wings of Fallen Angel fluttered slightly, just like humans stretch their arms; those wings could not stay in one position like a lifeless object.
Lin Lin smelled a warm scent of feathers.
This reminded her of many things, like the feather pillow she ordered from Demon King Castle, the tail feathers that fell when birds flew over the forest, and even further back to when she was in modern society, feeding round, plump pigeons in the plaza.
Even though Lin Lin often complained that Twanasha was an incompetent angel, the qualities that made him easy to approach and trust had not changed. He always looked at others with a calm and gentle gaze.
"Now the things in your mind are all shattered," Lin Lin heard the calm voice of the Fallen Angel, "that recurring thought can take a break for a while."
Lin Lin looked up.
He saw a cold young man whose face was partly shadowed under the sunlight.
The shadow on his face didn’t make him look dangerous; it was simply tranquil like moonlight.
Twanasha said, "The power of light does have healing effects, but it is hard to mend the demon realm."
Lin Lin said, "How could I possibly do something so foolish?"
The Fallen Angel’s light golden eyes lowered, focusing on Lin Lin without speaking.
Lin Lin blinked, "What if…"
Twanasha, "You are not a decisive and charming person."
Lin Lin decided to pull a feather from the wing of the Fallen Angel.
Sometimes she is very decisive.
–
"What is this?" The young demon was curious about the feather pen in Lin Lin’s hand.
"It’s a trophy," Lin Lin replied. The beautiful feather looked fluffy and special even as a pen.
"Where did it come from?" Although the young demon was curious, he did not try to touch it, as the feather gave off an aura that made him instinctively cautious.
Lin Lin did not answer right away, and the boy showed an unhappy expression, "Did you sneak out of Demon King Castle?"
In the boy’s mind, the worst thing he could think of was that Lin Lin had gone out without him, as he could no longer leave the ancient castle.
"Not today," Lin Lin answered truthfully, quickly hugged by the boy around the arm.
The demon boy looked around cautiously, as if someone would suddenly jump out from the hallway and kidnap Lin Lin.
"Lin Lin can’t sneak out!" the boy complained like this.
At an age when he still didn’t understand emotions, he had already learned to be cute; this guy was still a pragmatist.
This time Lin Lin did not answer him, she just smiled and ruffled his hair.
There was simply no way to respond because Lin Lin had indeed gone out many times.
Not all spells come from the past; people constantly improve spells.
Compared to the spells of today, due to the stability of life, the spells being developed are mainly convenient ones; for example, even though Lin Lin couldn’t use Caligo’s complex and stable teleportation circle, she could still manage a simple type that used magic power.
Lin Lin arrived outside the Demon King Castle at night.
It rained, and the rain fell on Lin Lin in the darkness. In the chaotic demon realm, she found it hard to tell if the raindrops were clear or mixed with black.
The volcano that erupted some time ago had quieted down, leaving behind solidified lava.
But the black mist did not fade away, and the cracks in the sky remained.
Lin Lin raised her magic wand, and the light-type gem shone brightly in the darkness, causing the black mist surrounding her to slowly dissipate.
The light-type spells were less effective in the black misty environment. Lin Lin chanted her spell, and a milky white light burst from her magic wand, sprinkling tiny lights along the edges of the sky’s cracks like stitches in a surgery, weaving through the gaps.
For a brief moment, there was success. When Lin Lin stopped channeling her magic, the stitches fell apart, and the gaps reopened, with only a small crack in the corner being mended as progress.
As Twanasha said, light-type spells struggle to repair the damaged demon realm.
Lin Lin stood for a moment, looking up at the corner she had mended.
One of her strengths was her good self-awareness; she knew that reaching this level was already quite impressive.
Lin Lin stood with her hands on her hips, pleased and proud of her achievement.
Raindrops fell on her; even though she was wearing a raincoat, cool water still splashed on her face. Lin Lin wiped her wet face and suddenly heard a noise.
As a powerful but inexperienced magician, Lin Lin knew she had to be alert to any sounds she noticed. She immediately turned around.
At the same time, a white light flashed like lightning towards the direction of the noise.
"Good progress," the orca said as it stepped out of the darkness. "Safir must have worked very hard."
Lin Lin breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest. "How did you get here?"
Bulwo had been gone for a long time. Lin Lin had even started to doubt if the orca had betrayed Demon King Castle. She didn’t expect to see him here.
"Just doing some little things like helping the residents evacuate," Bulwo answered. "I don’t know why, but they never cooperate."
It is definitely your problem.
Although Bulwo did not say how he did it, Lin Lin quickly made a guess based on the orca’s bad nature.
"So you succeeded?" Lin Lin was not very sure.
"Yes," Bulwo said with a slight lift of his chin, looking like someone who gets things done, "They have left their home and are now moving away on their own."
"Left their home." Such a rare way of speaking.
