Chapter 194: His Tears Fall
"He is looking for you."
The young boy from the demon race said these words while leaning against Lin Lin’s neck. His cool breath brushed over her collarbone, making Lin Lin shiver.
It was clearly spring, and even the nights were not too cold. When Lin Lin heard the boy mention another person’s existence, she felt something strange.
He could sense the presence of the other person.
This indescribable feeling left Lin Lin more helpless than when she told Safir her two-hundred-year story. After all, the Sapphire Dragon wouldn’t fly over from two hundred years in the future, but… the power of the Demon King was clearly marked on her neck, leading the boy from the demon race to make her feel that the adult demon race could find her through the mark.
Since when could Lin Lin faintly feel the power of the Demon King Imprint weakening? She thought this meant that the connection between them was getting weaker.
The young demon boy sensed Lin Lin’s stiffness. He paused for a moment, then cautiously reached out his hands and hugged her waist.
Unlike his own slim and flat waist, the waist of a human female was soft and plump, providing a distinctly gentle feeling when embraced.
She is in a panic, the boy thinks.
Most of the time, humans make contracts under the temptation of the demon race; they do not know what they truly lose until one day, long after, they realize the cost too late.
Perhaps this is why Lin Lin escaped from the human world, coming to a strange place, far away from the demon race with whom she made a contract.
When the boy from the demon race got closer to Lin Lin, he felt the clear anxiety coming from the mark once again.
He was infected by this anxiety, and his already uneasy feelings began to grow stronger.
He originally thought it wasn’t a big deal to be unable to leave Demon King Castle, but what if Lin Lin left here?
He couldn’t even search; he could only wait.
The boy, who always showed a relaxed expression, lowered his long eyelashes, feeling his breath controlled by an unknown force, creating an uneasy pressure within him.
"…What’s wrong?"
Lin Lin noticed the boy resting his head on her shoulder, his body softly leaning against her embrace, his eyes lowered and a hint of pink at the corners.
Lin Lin gently brushed his nose with her fingers, and drops of water fell one after another from his porcelain-white face.
Lin Lin blinked, feeling the warm tears that had fallen from the corners of his eyes, just like a human’s.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Lin spoke softly, not understanding why he suddenly looked so hurt when he seemed fine just moments ago.
It must be said, this young sheep looked like a delicate, well-behaved girl, with a pointed chin that was both pitiful and cute, making one feel a lot of patience.
He really looked like a princess who couldn’t stop dropping little pearls.
"I don’t know," the boy answered, not really getting stuck on his thoughts and responding to every question.
"Oh," Lin Lin paused for a few seconds, finding it hard to deal with this puzzling issue that even he couldn’t understand.
She reached out her arm, trying to gently pat the boy’s back.
The small pearls on the boy’s face finally stopped, and he looked up at Lin Lin’s face.
Just after crying, the boy’s face was damp; he rubbed his wet face against Lin Lin’s chin, then brushed against the corners of her slightly red lips.
The boy had long noticed that Lin Lin’s mouth was a bit different from his; her lower lip was thicker, looking soft and plump, a pink shade lighter than a flower.
When he touched the corner of Lin Lin’s lips, she slightly tilted her head to avoid his touch.
The boy clearly froze for a moment.
His vision was once again drowned in a shimmer of water.
The long curly hair had become fluffy and messy from his rubbing, and the white nightgown clung to him; compared to the woman, the boy appeared much slimmer and thinner, with muscles hidden beneath his slender frame, outlining some muscular shapes through the nightgown.
"Lin, Lin…" the boy anxiously squeezed out short sounds from his throat, reaching out his hands to hold Lin Lin’s cheeks, urging her to look at him.
Lin Lin then saw the colors returning to the tips of his nose and the corners of his eyes.
Tears fell from his eyes, one by one.
His eyes were big, and the tears were also big, dripping onto his pajamas and quickly soaking the pure cotton fabric, making it cling to his body.
Lin Lin reached out to wipe the tears from the corners of his eyes.
She couldn’t wipe them all away, and he looked very pitiful.
A few seconds later, the boy pressed his sad face against Lin Lin’s cheek and close to her ear.
This time, Lin Lin did not pull away.
The boy’s sweet breath surrounded her, warm and damp.
He clinged to Lin Lin, trying to find comfort from her.
Lin Lin felt someone gently bite her earlobe.
Although Lin Lin always blamed the little lamb for being silly, sometimes she felt he was quite clever in a tricky way.
Those tentative, soft and damp touches stretched down from the tip of her ear, finally landing on the mark of the Demon King on Lin Lin’s neck.
This time, the boy did not use his teeth; he suckled deeply twice, making the tender skin quickly turn red and hot, as if he wanted to bite into that piece of flesh.
Lin Lin tilted her head slightly in a sweet haze.
She reached out to push against the boy’s chest and saw him tumble back to his original spot. The boy first opened his mouth, revealing his sharp canine teeth slightly in his soft mouth.
Then he looked at Lin Lin pitifully and gently, no longer looking as teary-eyed as before.
Noticing the thoughtful expression on Lin Lin’s face.
The boy lifted his eyes and stammered out her name.
"Sister, sister?"
–
"The demon race is a very special kind of creature. Their feelings do not come naturally like most races; they rely on imitation," Safir’s voice was calm and deep.
"You could say that their outward emotions are mostly intentional; you might think of them as a rather shameless race."
"…Teacher Safir, you might be going a bit too far. The stereotypes about dragons are worse than those about the demon race," Lin Lin whispered. Even though she wasn’t very excited, it didn’t stop her from making her comment.
"Isn’t that the reason you left the lovely demon race to come to my office?" Safir looked at her coldly. "What foolish thing did that demon race do? You know he is too scared to come here."
Lin Lin puffed out her cheeks, beginning to get mad at Safir’s bluntness.
The Sapphire Dragon was completely used to Lin Lin’s emotions. He pretended not to see, "What about two hundred years from now? Didn’t you say he would be the Demon King at that time?"
Lin Lin thought seriously for a moment and described the features of the adult Your Majesty the Demon King, "Lazy at work, loves sweet food, always looks cheerful, and the whole Demon King Castle is relaxed; as long as you don’t show up, everything is quite lazy."
"…Isn’t that completely the same as now?" Safir asked.
"Hmm," Lin Lin didn’t want to admit it, but she couldn’t lie either, "the only thing that has grown is his size."
The Sapphire Dragon paused unusually.
"Why not just kill him now? As the Demon King, he is useless."
"Please do not act on impulse, Teacher Safir," Lin Lin rejected his violent idea, "but you, after two hundred years, are very mature and steady, quite different from now, radiating a charm of maturity."
Lin Lin tried to calm Safir by saying nice things.
The Sapphire Dragon’s anger dropped lower, "Because of this thing, I haven’t made any progress for two hundred years, which forced me to become mature and steady."
It was hard to argue, and it even made it seem like he held the truth.
Lin Lin lowered her head in guilt, lacking the courage to respond.
"But, but there will be many high-ranking officials after Demon King Castle, it will be very lively!" Lin Lin thought of the good side.
Safir looked at Lin Lin, who was trying to appear confident, "Are we winning by numbers? Are there any reliable people?"
Sometimes, Lin Lin really hated how sharp the Dragon race was.
Her smile froze on her face, unable to say anything good about those terrible people. Not only were they unreliable, but the Sapphire Dragon also had to deal with the problems they caused. Two hundred years later, it would still be the Sapphire Dragon cleaning up the mess.
"Everyone has such lively personalities," Lin Lin lowered her voice and looked back at the book in her hands. It seemed she had finally discovered the charm of knowledge, as she absorbed the information with wide eyes.
Lin Lin tried to bury her face in the book.
Then she heard the sound of Sapphire Dragon’s fingers tapping on the table.
"Sit up straight."
His tone was flat and calm, making Lin Lin almost instantly return to the state she was in when facing Safir two hundred years later.
"Yes! Lord Safir!"
The eyes of the Sapphire Dragon squinted. In class, Lin Lin was more used to calling him "teacher," and Safir also felt that he could take on the role of a guide.
"You should call me teacher," Safir said softly.
"No," Lin Lin shot him a glare, complaining about his changes, "the Safir from two hundred years later doesn’t allow me to call you that!"
