Chapter 193: You Are Lying
Safir is a very reliable person, and his reliability shows in many ways.
For example, in the study of time and space magic, Safir’s progress was quite smooth.
Lin Lin began to understand why Safir’s personality, though not likable, made all the leaders accept him as the team leader.
As long as this guy wants to do something, there is almost nothing he cannot achieve. Lin Lin even suspected that if their thinking were a bit more open, the demon realm’s moon landing plan could officially begin.
Well, she was just talking nonsense.
Lin Lin could find bits of news about the magic being slowly unraveled from the small details. Like leaves being eaten by insects, she knew there would come a day when it would all be gone, but she still couldn’t control her anxious feelings every day.
During this time, something of medium size happened in the demon realm; another volcano erupted.
To be honest, the residents of the demon realm were no longer afraid of such disasters. Although they were indeed terrifying, when a certain fear appears again and again, their once tense hearts began to feel relaxed.
So that’s that; could anything worse happen?
Something worse did happen. The eruption of this volcano was accompanied by a thick black mist, a noticeable special situation.
After learning that the black mist was connected to the God of Darkness, Lin Lin began to worry about its effects.
She stood on the roof of Demon King Castle, staring at the distant black mist that pierced the sky, resembling black pillars holding up the sky and the ground.
Soon, the black pillars shattered, turning into blades that pierced the sky. Black cracks appeared in the blue sky, revealing a full red moon.
The strange sights intermingled, and even those who did not know about the demon realm could tell that things had gotten quite bad.
Safir’s early preparations turned out to be quite necessary.
Lin Lin understood why Safir sought the spell to "go back in time." When her computer faced an unfixable error, she would also choose a method similar to formatting, returning everything to the past.
At the moment Bulwo tried to take Small Coal Ball outside to draw the black mist from the volcano.
As the emotionless demon boy stepped onto the land outside Demon King Castle, the cracks in the sky began to widen, making the Red Moon stand out even more.
At first, no one connected these two events; they simply felt that a crisis had truly arrived.
When the boy took his second step, the black mist became even thicker.
Standing at the door, Lin Lin, who originally intended to see them off, suddenly realized and reached out to pull the demon boy back to the land of Demon King Castle.
The cracks and black mist seemed to pause and no longer spread.
In an instant, all eyes were on the demon boy, but he looked at Lin Lin’s slender arm and then at his own hand, unsure how Lin Lin could have such strength.
Lin Lin also said nothing and looked at Bulwo.
The young orca said to Lin Lin, "Go tell Safir."
Then the young man took some people from the Demon King Castle and left; they still had things to handle.
-
The happiest person in Demon King Castle at that moment was probably the demon boy, who followed Lin Lin with light steps as she hurried to Safir’s office.
Lin Lin knocked on Safir’s office door and opened it after hearing his voice.
The room was dimly lit; even though it was daytime, Safir closed the heavy curtains because of the Sapphire Dragon’s habit and turned on the small orange light.
"There is new information," Lin Lin said.
Safir looked away from the parchment in his hands, which he was examining.
Sapphire Dragon noticed Lin Lin’s troubled expression and then looked at the demon race boy following her, "You go to that office."
The boy’s gaze lingered on the two for a few seconds, but he obediently left.
"That office?" Lin Lin stepped closer to Safir, "How did I not know you had a secret code?"
Safir rarely showed signs of fatigue, and Sapphire Dragon rubbed his forehead, "Because it’s about things that make you unhappy; you don’t want him involved with danger again, do you?"
Lin Lin pursed her lips and sat on the wooden chair in front of Safir’s desk, "I just think it’s best this way."
Lin Lin informed Safir about what just happened.
"His leaving Demon King Castle now will have a negative impact on the demon realm," Safir concluded, "It must still be due to his connection with the God of Darkness."
"Is there a possibility," Lin Lin said hesitantly, "to completely separate him from the God of Darkness?"
Lin Lin was unsure if that was possible, and she nervously gazed into Safir’s eyes.
Most people have a slight instinct to avoid a dragon’s eyes, but Lin Lin was already used to looking into those sapphire-colored eyes while talking.
Her look of hope made Safir look away, "His growth speed is far greater than other demon races; they have merged together and are difficult to separate."
It was the expected answer, and Lin Lin lowered her head.
She began to think.
Safir waited quietly to show respect, not picking up the book he had set down right away.
"You said before," Lin Lin asked, "that Small Coal Ball would become part of the land after the spell."
Safir nodded gently.
Lin Lin said, "Is he still alive?"
The Sapphire Dragon looked serious; he never promised uncertain things to others, "Maybe he is alive, or maybe he has truly become part of the soil."
"He can be alive," Lin Lin said, "even though he still cannot leave Demon King Castle, he can still live."
She said these two sentences softly. Safir heard them completely but did not respond. The young dragon’s fingers lightly tapped the table, showing a subtle urge; he did not comment on Lin Lin’s words.
Safir felt that Lin Lin had a strong desire to protect that demon race.
Dragons may be a cold-hearted race, but they understand emotions.
Safir certainly did not want to hurt Small Coal Ball, but when everything was laid out and choices had to be made, the Dragon race’s decisions always seemed overly calm and harsh.
He is making the "right" judgment.
But Safir also has to consider simple human feelings, like Lin Lin’s pain.
"Relax," Safir said, "whether it’s you or me, we have made the right choice for the Demon King Castle."
Safir’s rare and comforting words made Lin Lin sit up straight, "I am not talking nonsense; it’s true, the final result is like this."
She slowly blinked her eyes, deciding to tell Safir a part of her secret.
"Because I come from two hundred years in the future."
Although that wasn’t Lin Lin’s intention, seeing the all-knowing Dragon race look lost was truly delightful.
-
Lin Lin found the demon race boy in the God of Darkness’s office.
He was sitting upright on the sofa, doing something on the low table. When he saw Lin Lin, the boy stood up immediately and smiled.
Lin Lin saw the black chess piece in the boy’s hand and the chessboard placed on the low table; the boy was playing chess with himself.
While Lin Lin was unaware, Safir had already brought the boy to this room more than once to look for traces left by the gods, so he was very familiar with it.
"Can you feel what makes this room special?" Lin Lin asked as she entered the room.
For Lin Lin, this room was strange in many ways, but she couldn’t see the details.
Lin Lin placed the God of Darkness in the position of the dangerous villain, being very careful with his related items.
"In what way?" the boy tilted his head, confirming with her.
"For example, the power of the gods?" Lin Lin wasn’t sure either; she had sat with Safir for too long and now wanted to stand.
Facing the Small Coal Ball was much easier than facing Safir. Lin Lin walked to the bookshelf and tried once again to look through those books.
It failed. The book slipped away from her fingertips like a shadow once again.
"Small Coal Ball," Lin Lin called to the demon race boy, "come here."
The boy responded and went to find the book Lin Lin wanted to see; this time, the book was truly opened.
It was a collection of various books, which Lin Lin had no interest in, she just simply wanted to see if the demon race boy could open it.
Although she had prepared herself, now that the book was truly open, Lin Lin felt a different kind of subtle emotion.
The demon race boy was stared at by Lin Lin. Seeing that she was looking at him instead of the book, he vaguely sensed that something was not right, "So should I be able to open it… or not?"
"Just tell the truth," Lin Lin nodded.
The boy nodded. Although he was not very bright, he had the instincts of a wild animal and still felt something was off, so he began to frantically search through the bookshelves.
Until a piece of paper wedged in a book floated out and landed on the ground.
Lin Lin wanted to pick it up, but then remembered she couldn’t, as she watched the boy bend down to pick up the piece of paper.
"What does it say?" Lin Lin asked curiously.
"A prophecy," the boy from the demon race said, looking down, his violet eyes glued to the card. After a few seconds, he turned it around for Lin Lin to see the contents.
Oh… Lin Lin realized that the prophecy Small Coal Ball mentioned, about two hundred years later, was this.
The person who wrote the card had a wicked sense of humor; the meaning was likely that if you used this spell, you would receive a gift of your own, and the time to cast the spell was even marked, which is why Small Coal Ball could confidently say it is two hundred years in the future.
The content of the spell was encrypted. Even though Lin Lin, who had made a contract with Your Majesty the Demon King, was familiar with many languages that ordinary people could not understand, she still could not comprehend those words when she saw them.
"Can you understand this spell?" Lin Lin asked.
"I can understand half of it," Small Coal Ball replied.
It should be the spell that brought her to this world, Lin Lin thought. "Can I copy it down for Safir? I think he could interpret a lot from it."
Since Lin Lin discovered that Safir’s understanding of magic was a few levels above Caligo’s, she completely learned to relax.
Lin Lin was still staring at the piece of paper when, unexpectedly, the demon boy suddenly tucked it back into the book and returned it to its original place.
Lin Lin looked up at him.
"This is mine," surprisingly, the boy did not agree to her request for the first time; he showed a conflicted expression, "I don’t want to show it to anyone else."
Lin Lin was stunned for a moment.
She noticed that the demon boy had avoided her gaze; everyone knew that only he could open these books, and after he put it back, no one would know what was written inside.
Another surprising point for Lin Lin was that the boy was originally a very "generous" person.
In fact, Small Coal Ball hadn’t had much of a concept of "others" and "his own" before.
In this huge Demon King Castle, Lin Lin had always tried to give him everything; most of Small Coal Ball’s requests could be met, and he wouldn’t get upset if others used his things.
This was his first time thinking about the idea that something could belong to him.
Although the boy looked very uneasy, his attitude was quite firm.
So the slightly pitiful expression on his face did not mean he thought he was wrong; he was just worried about whether he could handle the consequences, like Lin Lin’s feelings about his choice.
"It’s okay, you can do what you want," Lin Lin felt very curious at that moment, even her worried feelings faded a little, "Only you can open that book."
Facing Lin Lin’s kind attitude, the boy’s gaze fell on the contract around her neck.
He opened his mouth but did not say anything.
-
Small Coal Ball had his own secret now.
Lin Lin was lying in bed, the lights were off, and she had not yet fallen asleep.
Because Small Coal Ball had been with her for a while, she always felt a sense of being a mentor towards him, especially since Small Coal Ball clearly had a more affectionate attitude towards her than others.
She thought that he would always stand by her side. Lin Lin felt mixed emotions.
Turning over, Lin Lin reminded herself that he would, of course, have his own decisions, and she should even be happy for his progress.
At night, more monsters filled the Demon King Castle, making the nights less quiet. They could hear the sounds of monsters outside, as well as the slimes playing and bumping into each other in the hallway.
There was a knock on the bedroom door.
Lin Lin sat up in bed, vaguely guessing that there weren’t many people who would come to see her at this time, "Come in."
A boy dressed in a white nightgown, with loose curly hair and holding a pillow, appeared at the door.
Oh my, Lin Lin sighed. He did mention that Lin Lin’s nightgown looked much easier than men’s pajamas, and he wanted to get one too. She wondered which monster helped him buy a nightgown.
Lin Lin watched him come to her bedside with the pillow, place it on the bed, and then climb onto the soft, big bed.
Lin Lin scooted aside to make space for him.
As she got close to the boy, Lin Lin smelled a sweet aroma of honey cake. "What are you doing here?"
Lin Lin’s blanket was large enough to easily cover both of them, but she felt a little confused when she saw the boy snuggle into her light blue floral quilt.
His skin was a few degrees cooler than a human’s, like a gentle breeze had come in.
"To keep you from losing me," the boy replied.
Lin Lin paused for a few seconds. Not long ago, she had tied him up to prevent him from escaping, but now the tables had turned; he was the one afraid of running away.
The boy knelt on the bed, and beneath his thick eyelashes, his purple eyes sparkled. His skin was very pale, colder and harder than a human’s due to his race.
"I have no intention of that," Lin Lin answered.
But whether she would be forced to go back was uncertain.
The boy gazed at her face.
This made Lin Lin feel a little uneasy; the boy had learned many expressions, and she was no longer sure if she could hide the details from him.
Then the boy gently leaned closer, resting his head on her shoulder.
Lin Lin could feel the cool breath brushing against her collarbone.
"You are lying," the boy said.
The fluffy head rubbed against Lin Lin’s neck.
Lin Lin reached out her hand, wanting to gently stroke the top of his head, when she heard the boy say something else.
"He is looking for you."
The mark of the Demon King on her neck started to heat up uncontrollably.
