Chapter 181: Teacher Safir
Most of the time, Safir taught theory classes.
Lin Lin secretly suspected it was because theory classes were the easiest; he just had to talk, and then Lin Lin and Small Coal Ball could read the books by themselves.
When teaching practical magic, Safir said, "Magic is as simple as breathing."
Your breathing seems different from mine, Lin Lin panted.
She had always been very aware of dangers, and she would never go anywhere without a little change, and she never wasted all her magic at once.
Even though life was quite dull and boring, Lin Lin would sometimes dream of being a great hero who saves the day.
For example, when Safir was teaching Small Coal Ball, both of them ran out of magic, and Bulwo was out and didn’t come home.
Suddenly! A huge monster attacked Demon King Castle! In this critical moment, it was the human accountant who had saved their strength by being lazy during practice that saved Demon King Castle!
Lin Lin held up her magic wand and waved it at the dark sky.
"Don’t make small movements," said Sapphire Dragon in a calm voice.
Lin Lin quietly lowered her magic wand.
Lin Lin’s system of spells and her habits were quite developed, while Safir focused mainly on the Small Coal Ball.
Lin Lin noticed that Safir was consciously allowing the Small Coal Ball to absorb the black mist continuously.
The Small Coal Ball was indeed growing faster than before, as the black mist nourished it like food.
After confirming that the Small Coal Ball was the little sheep king, Lin Lin felt a warmth looking at the scene.
This was probably the kindest Safir had been to the little sheep king, and Lin Lin hoped the king would remember this moment, as Safir’s future attitude and character would be related to this experience, which he deserved.
The little sheep king was truly qualified to be Safir’s student; although he understood theoretical knowledge only partially, he could imitate the effects perfectly after watching Safir perform once.
The black mist is controlled by His Majesty the Little Lamb.
Lin Lin remembers that after two hundred years he became more used to using black lines, but now, those twisted and strange black lines have not yet appeared.
Lin Lin stared at the black mist that had not dispersed and thought of the one dressed in a furry-collared cloak, Your Majesty the Demon King.
She had been away for a while, and that Majesty felt quite uneasy because she had left for so long, not knowing what the situation was now.
A cool breeze touched Lin Lin’s forehead; she looked up and reached out to catch it.
One downside of the black sky is that it is hard to notice when it rains.
One drop, two drops, splashed onto Lin Lin’s forehead and seeped into the collar of her coat.
Lin Lin glanced at the two people standing in the training ground. Safir was fine; the rain hardly left any marks on him. To Lin Lin’s surprise, Small Coal Ball’s fur was waterproof! It didn’t mind the rain at all!
As a fragile human, Lin Lin quietly moved to the side and stood under a big tree with lush leaves, not worrying about being struck by lightning because there was a lightning rod on the top of the Demon King Castle.
What a comforting science, Lin Lin stood under the tree, listening to the rumbling thunder above.
The rain became heavier, and the smell of wet soil grew stronger. Lin Lin stood in a dry spot sheltered by the tree canopy, watching the two people in the training field through the curtain of rain.
The rain turned the shapes of the people into blocks of color. Small Coal Ball looked a bit like the pixel pets Lin Lin had played with in a game before.
Small Coal Ball charged towards Safir, and at the same time, the black mist changed into sharp blades, a new spell that Safir had just taught it.
In the distance, Lin Lin heard the hurried footsteps of the staff from Demon King Castle running inside to escape the rain.
Smells and sounds can easily bring back memories of a certain moment. When the orca brothers arrived at Demon King Castle two hundred years later, it often accompanied such heavy rain.
Back then, Demon King Castle was even noisier than it is now.
Then, she heard footsteps beside her.
Lorken came over, holding an umbrella. He carried two folded duvet covers in his arms, which were likely saved by the staff from the logistics department during the rain. One corner of the duvet cover was wet, but thankfully, it wasn’t a big deal.
"Lin Lin," Lorken called her name, "it’s raining, I will take you back."
Lin Lin nodded, "Okay, wait for me a moment, I will talk to Lord Safir."
Not wanting to go out in the rain, Lin Lin shaped her hands like a trumpet, since those two guys had sharp ears.
"Lord Safir!" Lin Lin shouted toward the training ground, her voice cutting through the rain curtain, "I am done for now!"
Sapphire Dragon turned around.
Small Coal Ball, which had been searching for an opportunity around Safir, swiftly dashed toward Lin Lin. Although it was a sphere, it moved with the speed of a blur, rolling in the muddy water several times before eagerly jumping into Lin Lin’s arms.
Lin Lin caught it in her hands like she was receiving a volleyball, "Don’t get my clothes dirty."
Small Coal Ball made two little sounds and leaped into the blanket in Lorken’s arms.
"Sorry," Lorken also avoided it, "this is freshly washed, and if it gets dirty, I might be in big trouble."
Lin Lin changed her position and held Small Coal Ball in her hands, seeing Safir still standing in the rain.
The Sapphire Dragon was slightly lifting its head, gazing at the sky, with translucent raindrops dripping from its deep blue earrings.
Lin Lin called to him.
"Teacher Safir, let’s go back."
–
This rain had been falling for a long time, even Lin Lin, who usually liked to stay indoors, felt a bit trapped.
The continuous sound of rain and the cold wind sneaking in through the half-closed window.
Lin Lin was sitting up in bed against the headboard, with Safir and Bulwo both outside; now in Demon King Castle, she was the highest-ranking person, quite openly taking a break.
A thick blanket was piled on her, wrapping her up snugly.
The door was pushed open a little, and Small Coal Ball squeezed in from outside, jumping onto her slightly bent knee.
Lin Lin was reading a novel. She thought to herself that she could read any novel now, and in two hundred years, this novel would surely be finished, and perhaps even the fifth and sixth parts would be completed.
Small Coal Ball was not interested in the novel she was reading. It curled up and lay on her stomach, comfortably falling asleep as it rose and fell with Lin Lin’s breathing.
Safir came back in the evening.
Actually, in days that have no light or darkness, it shouldn’t really be called "evening," but Lin Lin, living in the light, still couldn’t change this habit.
Sapphire Dragon’s expression did not look very good.
"Is something wrong?" Lin Lin asked.
Safir nodded slightly.
Lin Lin knew the reason for Safir and Bulwo’s outing; it seemed that the weather in the demon realm had gotten worse. It was already all sand, and now, after the rain, it had become even more barren.
The rain caused the rivers to overflow, which greatly affected the lives of the creatures living here.
This is a world influenced by fragments of the God of Darkness, and its original order has completely fallen into chaos because of the master’s disappearance.
"The rainfall around the Demon King Castle is the least," Safir said as he looked at the Small Coal Ball, who was still fast asleep. "Bulwo and I had to consider one possibility: the places where the dark mist is thick are the most chaotic."
"Should we take care of the Small Coal Ball?" Lin Lin frowned slightly, clutching the thick blanket tightly.
Safir lowered his gaze slightly to look at the woman sitting on the bed.
Just as humans can sense a dragon’s emotions instinctively, the Dragon race can also observe subtle movements that other creatures might not notice with their keen eyesight.
"Dealing with that dark mist is not difficult for it," Safir said softly, perhaps mindful that the Small Coal Ball was still sleeping.
"Yeah," Lin Lin said with unexpressed worry, "that dark mist seems too in tune with it."
"That means it is very powerful," Safir replied, rarely giving such a positive remark from his limited experience in praising others.
Lin Lin nodded; she really did know the future of the story, but being in this moment still made her worry.
Small Coal Ball also joined Safir and his friends on their outing.
Lin Lin was in charge of organizing the people in Demon King Castle to help her repair the drainage ditches, so rainwater wouldn’t keep piling up.
Worgen didn’t like the rain much either, as it would wet their fur.
Although Lorken didn’t have fur as a concern, his instincts as a different race made him feel a bit weak.
"Worgen are really awful," Lorken couldn’t help but complain to Lin Lin. "They feel uncomfortable during the full moon, uncomfortable when it rains. There aren’t many days of comfort all year round."
"Compared to Dark Elves, they are doing better," Lin Lin told Lorken about her elf friend. "He feels bad every day."
"So isn’t it perfect for him to stay here?" Lorken muttered.
No, by the time he arrived here, the demon realm had already been repaired, making him a rather unlucky Dark Elf.
Lin Lin smiled but did not respond to the sentence.
"I’m not saying this place is bad," Lorken realized he had expressed his displeasure about the demon realm and hurriedly explained, hoping Lin Lin wouldn’t misunderstand him, "I’m just not used to this weather."
Lin Lin looked up at the dark sky; the birds were also dark shadows flying through the rain, leaving a faint trace.
Lin Lin said, "Actually, I’m not used to a sky that is always night."
"But it’s a bit livelier here."
–
Lin Lin woke up from a loud noise and the shaking of the ground.
It was already the third day since Safir and the others went out and had not returned to the Demon King Castle.
It wasn’t just Lin Lin who woke up; outside the door, there was a lot of noise.
Lin Lin got out of bed, walked to the window, opened it, and saw far away the dark gray clouds shooting up into the sky and the orange-red lava.
The volcano has erupted.
The eruption was far from Demon King Castle, and most people fell silent after their gasps of surprise.
The demon realm was getting worse and worse, and even though everyone knew it, no one wanted to talk about it.
Lin Lin walked around her bedroom twice, and in the end, she put on a coat and left the room.
She walked along a path she knew well, to the Demon King’s office, which had been unoccupied for two hundred years.
Lin Lin opened the door and looked into the office, towards the inner room.
"Father Demon King’s study."
After knocking on the door, Lin Lin entered the room.
The room’s arrangement looked exactly the same as when she last left.
Perhaps because the God of Darkness is a "missing god," a "broken god," Lin Lin’s already rare respect for gods became even scarcer.
She began to search through the office to see if there was a solution.
This is the god’s room; it must be hiding something amazing. Maybe she could find a button in the drawer to change the world from "hard mode" to "easy mode."
Lin Lin searched with all her might and really made a discovery.
Lin Lin found half a piece of chocolate in the God of Darkness’s drawer.
In that moment, Lin Lin felt the god’s charm had decreased.
Lin Lin quietly opened the remaining wrapper and broke off a small piece to smell.
Ugh, it smells bitter. It’s high-purity dark chocolate!
