Chapter 178: Why Did You Come?
"I thought you had already gone back," Lin Lin looked Lorken up and down, relieved to see he was just a bit tired and not hurt.
"The captain and the others have gone back," Lorken replied. He paused for a few seconds, then said, "I came to find you."
The orca Bulwo was telling the truth; he and Safir were originally heading to the Brass Dragon’s nest for Lin Lin. So after taking Lin Lin away, they did not linger any longer. However, Safir’s instinct to drive away solitary creatures of his kind made him threaten the Brass Dragon once more, demanding that it leave quickly.
Safir’s action gave the others a chance to escape, allowing them to leave the talkative Brass Dragon’s nest.
From the end of winter to the beginning of spring, Lin Lin felt like she had been in the Demon King Castle for a long time. Surprisingly, Lorken had not left the demon realm at all.
"How did you know I was here?" Lin Lin asked.
After this question, Lorken looked much more relaxed, "Because a creature said there was a human woman in the Demon King Castle, so I wanted to come and see."
Lin Lin nodded.
Humans are indeed very noticeable in the demon realm. When she was working as an accountant in the Demon King Castle, news about her spread quickly.
[Why did you come?] This question lingered in Lin Lin’s mind, but she did not say it aloud.
Maybe it was because Lorken had half human genes, maybe it was because he had left his Worgen friends to explore the Dragon race’s nest with her, which didn’t fit the selfish image he had when they first met, or maybe it was something else… At this moment, it was quite clear that Lorken was standing here.
Lin Lin guessed the answer subtly.
Lorken did not understand Lin Lin’s silence. The young man’s hood slipped down halfway, revealing his dark gray hair. He took Lin Lin’s arm and pulled her outside, saying, "This isn’t the time to talk, let’s go quickly."
In Lorken’s mind, Lin Lin was taken into the Demon King Castle, and even becoming the Demon King was out of force; now that he had finally found her, he certainly wanted to take her away.
Lin Lin did not move; she pulled her arm back forcefully from his grip.
This was a reflex because Lin Lin did not want to follow Lorken.
Lorken clearly paused for a moment and looked back at Lin Lin.
The Small Coal Ball, peeking out to see what was happening, raised its tail slightly and sat up straight.
Lin Lin said, "I won’t go."
"Are you joking?" Lorken couldn’t believe it. "This is Demon King Castle! Demon King Castle! Why are you staying here? Don’t you know that all races are unfriendly?"
Lin Lin certainly understood why Lorken was surprised. For Lorken, even if he was being pointed at from behind, he still wanted to return to the human group; that was one of his homes.
Compared to him, who was an unrecognized outsider, Lin Lin, as a human and a wizard, could easily find a good job and be someone others admired.
What Lin Lin gave up was something he had always admired.
"We can go outside first," Lorken said, still not giving up on the idea of taking Lin Lin away. "Aren’t you going to find your friend? Are you just going to give up?"
Worgen Palin made a wrong guess; he thought Lin Lin was here for a fellow human light-type wizard.
To keep Lorken from his reckless pursuit, Palin even created a sad love story about Lin Lin searching for a lover lost in the war, which was quite normal in this era.
No matter how strong a human is, in a grand war, they are as light as a feather.
Palin just underestimated Lorken’s stubbornness.
Lin Lin did not expect Lorken to remember about finding someone; at that time, she had just made up an excuse to deal with others.
However, she was not completely lying; she really was looking for Safir to see if this clever Sapphire Dragon could take her to the Demon King Castle.
"How should I say this…" Lin Lin’s tone became hesitant, "I have already found that person, so I cannot leave?"
This should be a reasonable explanation, right?
"I see," the young man Worgen frowned slightly; unlike what Lin Lin thought was giving up, he looked serious, "Could it be that the Demon King Castle kidnapped him to threaten you to stay here?"
Lin Lin: ???
Kidnap Safir?
–
Today, the coal ball seemed a bit strange; Safir raised his head slightly to look at the very active little creature.
In most cases, the coal ball always wanted to show a good and cute side in front of Lin Lin, but clearly, that was not the case now.
The Small Coal Ball’s tail was tightly wrapped around Lin Lin’s arm, and she struggled to pull it off but couldn’t let go.
The good eyesight of the Dragon Race helped Safir see the expression on the Small Coal Ball’s face; its little black bean-like eyes kept glancing at him, not big but very quick to signal him.
Safir, "I must be losing my mind; I actually think it’s trying to signal me."
The Sapphire Dragon nodded slightly and turned its attention to Lin Lin, "What’s wrong with it?"
This one looked even more different than usual.
"Hah," Lin Lin struggled to pull the coal ball off her arm, but its tail wrapped around her again, showing signs of a tantrum, "I’m not quite sure."
Lin Lin answered very sheepishly, avoiding eye contact with Safir.
This was a rare situation; the Sapphire Dragon deliberately tried to hide its expression, but a slight raising of its eyebrows betrayed it.
Safir closed the book and looked at the two students. "It seems today is not a good day for studying. Let’s end the class."
Lin Lin sighed in relief.
Coal Ball also loved the end of class. There was too much to learn recently, and it was even delaying its meals. Its appetite had been growing, and as soon as class ended, it rushed towards the cafeteria on the first floor.
Unlike Coal Ball, Lin Lin walked towards her own room.
Lin Lin was completely lost in thought, and the lights in Demon King Castle were dim, so when she turned the corner in the hallway, she didn’t notice if anyone was coming and bumped right into someone.
Lin Lin’s nose unexpectedly collided with a black wool coat.
Lin Lin had to admit that the two adult men in the "senior group" were indeed much more stylish in their clothing than most of the leaders in Demon King Castle.
In the moment Lin Lin’s forehead hit a hard object, she thought, Safir is wearing a jeweled bow tie again.
"You could have totally avoided that!" Lin Lin said, feeling annoyed as she took a step back and had to look up at Safir.
Why isn’t the dragon’s speed used to make way?
"You are the one who is not focused," Safir said calmly, his eyes downcast, looking a bit lazy.
The Sapphire Dragon noticed a faint smell of… Orc on Lin Lin.
The smell of Orc cannot be used as a standard for judgment. Now, there are many employees at the Demon King Castle, and Orcs make up a considerable number. It is not surprising that Lin Lin has the smell of Orc on her.
Unfortunately, Safir’s sense of smell is very sharp, so he easily realized that there was a stronger scent on Lin Lin’s arm.
Judging by the position of the marks, it was almost like… pulling.
Safir quickly thought of the male Orcs in the Demon King Castle. Because of Lin Lin’s special identity as Demon King, most Orcs treat her with great respect, bowing their heads to show respect even from half a meter away, let alone in close contact.
Moreover, Lin Lin did not mention that Orc.
Most of the time, when Safir returns, Lin Lin chatters about everything she did with Coal throughout the day. Although it is mostly boring stuff, since Lin Lin is willing to share, Safir reluctantly agrees to waste some time listening to those trivial matters.
This time when Safir came back, Lin Lin acted very quietly.
Safir felt a slight disappointment; he hoped Lin Lin would quickly realize her mistake.
"I want to ask you a question," Lin Lin’s voice sounded a bit nervous.
"You can ask," Safir was not afraid of questions; what seemed complicated to humans was not a concern for dragons.
"For example," Lin Lin emphasized, "I just want to know if there are suitable positions for Worgen at Demon King Castle?"
"No," Safir’s answer was very quick, and his blue gem-like eyes looked in another direction.
Lin Lin hesitated for a moment, "But I heard Lord Bulwo say that they are short on strong employees lately?"
"Not anymore," Safir replied.
