Chapter 169: Generosity
Lin Lin understood that reading was just one part of Safir’s teaching, and her worries finally faded away.
Lin Lin had more motivation to find the Demon King than ever before.
Well, in other places, she might feel a sense of crisis, but since she was in the Demon King Castle, even the Demon King Castle from two hundred years ago felt like a very safe place to Lin Lin.
Lin Lin loved to wander and roam in the Demon King Castle during her breaks.
The empty Demon King Castle might have been protected by a hiding spell cast by Safir, so not only would the Light Camp members not disturb her, but the monsters couldn’t enter either.
There are many modern people in Lin Lin’s life. When she traveled to Demon King Castle, she found it much quieter compared to her home. Now, arriving at the Demon King Castle from two hundred years ago, she experienced true silence.
In the dim hallway, there are no bright lights shining with footsteps, and no little slimes coming to ask for snacks.
Today, the two leaders of Demon King Castle are not here. When Lin Lin stops moving, the entire Demon King Castle becomes completely silent.
It is too quiet.
In the corridor on the second floor, the gray and white statues are lined up, and there is no sign of the Fallen Angel.
What is up with this lazy angel? Why does it have to be late even as a statue?
Feeling bored, Lin Lin wandered around until she stopped by the Demon King’s office.
She gently pushed the door open.
The door was, of course, not closed. Safir had rearranged many things in Demon King Castle. The wooden desks and chairs in the office were the ones Lin Lin was familiar with.
Lin Lin entered the office, her hand brushing over the cold desk, but in her mind, she could see the figure of the Demon King sitting here, and sometimes Felix would appear as well; Safir came less often, as he preferred to stay in his own office.
Although it was not Lin Lin’s intention, she truly felt a hint of the eternal beings’ reflection on time. Time passed, and only she stood here.
After a brief pause, Lin Lin’s gaze turned to another door on the side of the Demon King’s office.
Lin Lin had always known that door existed; they never avoided her when discussing matters, but she had never approached it on her own.
That was the "father’s room" as the Demon King called it, or more accurately, the room of items left by "father."
Among the leaders, even Safir would choose to be quiet when mentioning anything related to "father," which seemed to be an unspoken agreement; only the Demon King knew what was behind that door.
And Lin Lin was the outsider called forth by a spell from an old book inside that room.
That was also the door that changed the course of her life.
Lin Lin found it hard to argue; she came here, accepting her role as the "Demon King" in Safir and Bulwo’s words, without any selfish desire to know what was inside.
Lin Lin arrived at the wooden door, similar to the one in the God of Light sanctuary. As she approached the big door, a vague energy flowed from it.
Lin Lin’s hand grasped the doorknob, and surprisingly, the door did not reject her.
The mark left by the Demon King on her neck burned with a heat like a bee sting, but only for a few seconds.
Lin Lin turned the doorknob, creating a crisp sound.
The door opened.
This door had not been opened for a while, and Lin Lin smelled dust.
Surprisingly, there were no lights in the room, but for a light-type mage, it was not a problem. Although her magic wand was still with Safir, Lin Lin just snapped her fingers, and a soft light appeared at her fingertips.
The light illuminated the room, which was larger than Lin Lin had expected, almost the same size as the Demon King’s office outside, with separate spaces for work, rest, and personal care.
Lin Lin suddenly realized that the "study" she always thought her "father" left for the Demon King was different from what the little lamb king referred to as "father’s room," which was the accurate description.
Someone once lived here for real.
Someone who did not need light, Lin Lin was sure, there was not a single item related to lighting in the room.
With the light, Lin Lin saw the complicated wallpaper on the walls; to be honest, she thought this style was hundreds of years old, even comparable to the ancient murals in the sanctuary.
There were very few items in the room, and the room’s owner did not seem like a person who enjoyed pleasures.
In the center of the living room was a black-and-white chessboard, next to it were pieces painted with various monsters.
Lin Lin had never seen this kind of chess before; she just glanced briefly and walked toward the desk.
This was probably the place where the room’s owner came more often, and a cool, light fragrance filled the air.
The bookshelf was neatly arranged with various books, and Lin Lin reached out to take one, wanting to flip through the book at the top.
Just as her pale fingers were about to touch the books, Lin Lin felt something was wrong; her fingers passed through the books and touched the bookshelf.
The books seemed to her like shadows from a projector, visible but untouchable.
Lin Lin opened another bookshelf and found the same thing happened.
Perhaps this was some kind of advanced magic, meant to keep people like her out.
Most things here were not interactive for her, so Lin Lin had to turn her gaze back to the chessboard in the hall.
The chessboard glimmered softly in the dark, as if inviting her to play a game.
Lin Lin hesitated for a moment, sat on the sofa, and then reached out to pick up a white piece.
The chessboard glowed again, along with the black pieces that Lin Lin had not touched.
Although Lin Lin didn’t know how to play chess, she knew how to play tic-tac-toe, where three circles or crosses formed a straight line to win.
Lin Lin confidently placed the white piece in the center of the chessboard, taking a strong position.
Although it doesn’t rain, she is confident. A bold and independent woman throughout her life.
Lin Lin’s movements in the game are so graceful, and after her turn, the shimmering chessboard dims slightly, as if surprised by her first move.
Her opponent is stunned.
Lin Lin waited a few seconds, and the light on the chessboard completely vanished.
"Lin Lin."
Lin Lin looked up and saw Bulwo standing in the doorway, his dark eyes narrowing slightly, with some of his curly black hair pressed against his face by his hat.
Bulwo asked, "What are you doing there?"
–
Even if the "door" is open, Bulwo cannot enter this room.
The man calmly watched Lin Lin walk out of the room and then told her, "You should not let Safir know you came in. He thinks it is not the right time yet."
Not the right time for what?
Just as Lin Lin was about to ask, after she closed the door to the room, the young man looked down and gently touched her eyes.
Bulwo’s rough fingers brushed against the corner of Lin Lin’s eye. He opened her eyelid and bent down to carefully observe her pupil.
His rough fingers made the soft skin of humans blush, completely different from the cold, hard skin of the orcas.
Bulwo stared at Lin Lin, and out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the wooden door behind her, a room he could not enter.
In fact, aside from their races, they were very similar.
Lin Lin, the human lady with black hair and black eyes, resembled orcas in their human forms, fitting the orcas’ sense of beauty. Bulwo was not surprised that he found her very pleasing the first time he saw her.
Only in the depths of the orcas’ eyes could you find a hidden deep blue hue, like the color of the ocean’s deepest parts.
Lin Lin didn’t; her eyes still had a hint of deep warm brown, which looked lighter in the bright light.
"You didn’t change your eye color, did you?" Bulwo asked, "Like, were you born with purple eyes?"
"No," Lin Lin pushed him away a little; they were too close.
Bulwo had no idea how his tall figure felt like a heavy presence to a human when he got so close.
Even just bending over and blocking the light created a shadow that was enough to cover her.
Lin Lin quickly caught the meaning in Bulwo’s words, "Do you think I should have purple eyes? I heard that every Demon King of the past had black hair and purple eyes."
They didn’t even have their own unique names, Lin Lin thought, just like mass-produced toys from one generation to the next.
"Oh, then your information is quite rich," Bulwo said, glancing at Lin Lin’s eyes again. Most Orcs were magically resistant, and except for mermaids, who were magical creatures, it was hard for Bulwo to tell if Lin Lin had used magic to change anything.
Bulwo reached out and placed his hand on Lin Lin’s shoulder, a comforting gesture, "But not every Demon King has to be a black-haired, purple-eyed demon; I think you’re just fine."
"You want a Demon King who is different from the past, right?" Lin Lin asked, "So you can’t wait for me to take this position."
Lin Lin did not dare to question Safir, but she could be strong with Bulwo. Lin Lin thought it might be because his always relaxed and laughing attitude made it hard to be serious.
Lin Lin had a subtle feeling; she just knew Bulwo would not lie to her or get angry.
Although he seemed to have his own plans.
They were both holding back.
"That is part of it," Bulwo said, suddenly pulling out a new pair of boots that looked very similar to the ones Lin Lin had thrown away.
He gently patted Lin Lin on the head, as if urging a little child to try on new shoes, "Mainly, I really hope for a cat king."
Unwavering cat faction.
