Chapter 166: Since They Are All Useless
The earth trembled, and loose walls dropped some dust.
Lorken pulled Lin Lin back and was surprised by her words, "A dragon has come?"
For most creatures living in this world, seeing a dragon even once in a lifetime is enough to be shocked; Worgen never imagined he would see a second dragon.
Even though the unknown dragon had not yet appeared, the instinct to escape danger had already led the captain and the male wizard deeper into the lair, as they vaguely realized that the dragon outside the cave must be more fearsome.
Lin Lin had a strong impression; when they first met, Safir did not like humans, or rather, he did not like any weak creatures.
But thinking carefully, Safir also did not like troublesome people, did not like fools, did not like those who were too noisy, and did not like those who were too silent and dull. Adding it all up, no one in Demon King Castle matched Safir’s taste. He fairly hated everyone.
Lin Lin followed the choices of others and stepped inside, but did not succeed in what she wanted.
A gust of wind blew her back half a meter.
Inside the lair, it was closed and warm; this was not ordinary wind but hot air blowing down from above.
Lin Lin looked up and saw the Brass Dragon that had just breathed on her; the huge eyes of the Brass Dragon were watching her.
The breath of the Brass Dragon is fire, and Lin Lin has to thank it for holding back just in time, or she would have been burned by two sparks.
Unlike Lin Lin’s judgement about the shaking of the earth, the superior sense of smell of the Dragon race allowed the Brass Dragon to identify the visitor much earlier. It stood up, facing the entrance of the cave, guarding its nest and the precious treasures inside.
The Brass Dragon lifted its chin at Lin Lin and urged, "Aren’t you a good friend of Safir? Go greet him, your friend is here."
Lin Lin widened her eyes in disbelief. The Brass Dragon wants her to go out?
What a cowardly and shameless act!
Lin Lin shouted in anger, "Safir is from the Dragon race, why aren’t you welcoming him!"
The Brass Dragon answered confidently, "He’s your friend, not mine, and I can’t fight him."
Lin Lin replied, "I can’t fight him either!"
Clearly, the talkative Brass Dragon was very good at making excuses. It urged Lin Lin, "I am injured. Are you really going to make an injured person go out? I have been taking care of you well; I haven’t eaten anything for days."
Lin Lin said, "Because dragons can go several days without eating, don’t think you can fool me."
Lorken warily watched the Brass Dragon that wanted to urge Lin Lin to walk ahead and the unknown guest at the cave entrance.
He was a very young Worgen, and this youth was not only in age but also in experience. Lorken rarely left the village, and even when he fought monsters, it was always against low-level foes.
Lorken only took on tasks he was sure to win.
But now, it was clear that everything was beyond his strength, and Lorken’s already anxious feelings became even more uneasy.
Lorken heard the sound of heavy footsteps.
Unlike cautious Lorken, the Dragon race never needed to hide, and their terrifying footsteps were a source of mental pressure for others.
Lin Lin noticed that something was off with Lorken.
She never believed that Lorken came out of genuine interest in dragons, as he had told Palin.
Lin Lin believed that Lorken originally wanted to take some treasure from the dragons, but clearly, things did not go as he wished. Now, two dragons were about to appear, and Lorken’s little wolf tail, which did not exist, was almost standing straight up in fear.
"Take it easy," Lin Lin said, holding Lorken’s hand to comfort him. "There’s nothing to be afraid of."
Lorken watched as Lin Lin stepped forward, standing in front of him.
Lin Lin’s palm was soft, and only her knuckles had thin calluses from writing.
Lorken clearly remembered thinking that Lin Lin was a sheltered young lady who needed protection.
As Lin Lin took steps in the opposite direction of everyone else, she faced the coming "danger."
Lorken looked at Lin Lin’s straight back.
In that moment, he realized that he cared for the person in front of him.
In that moment, he realized that they were not a good match.
–
In fact, although Lin Lin has spent a long time with Safir, most of the time, the Sapphire Dragon prefers to show itself in human form.
This is partly because the Sapphire Dragon has a natural instinct to avoid trouble, and partly to reduce the chances of accidentally harming others.
Its enormous body, even with a tail gently sweeping by, could pose a serious threat to life if it accidentally hit someone.
However, the young Safir clearly does not understand this, or perhaps he simply does not care.
A massive Dragon race must lower its head slightly to enter the lair of its kind, and unlike the Brass Dragon, its sharp, straight horns intimidate others of its own race. In the dim cave, the brilliant blue scales reflect dazzling colors on the walls.
Safir’s build is similar to Lin Lin’s memory, just with different-colored scales.
At this age, Safir’s blue scales are even more vibrant, and his sapphire-like vertical pupils show even greater pressure.
The Sapphire Dragon shows no intention of holding back. First, he glanced at the most eye-catching Brass Dragon in the lair, then with a slightly mocking look at the wooden carvings and knitted items collected by the Brass Dragon, his gaze moved to the tiny humans who seemed too small to him.
This time, the Sapphire Dragon looked at them for a shorter time than the wooden carving; he seemed to find this lair completely boring.
"What are you here for?" the Brass Dragon asked, his voice making the ground tremble slightly.
Safir did not speak, but a figure that had been hiding behind him suddenly rushed at Lin Lin.
Both the Brass Dragon and Lin Lin were startled.
The bad part about relying too much on magic is that when the other person is immune to spells, it is hard for us wizards to notice their presence.
A tall figure grabbed Lin Lin by the back of her collar and lifted her up, shaking her in the air.
The man easily dodged Lorken’s surprise attack, using his other hand to take away the short knife from Lorken’s grip, breaking the sharp blade in his hand.
An unusually great power.
"I think this child is quite good," said the man behind.
Being lifted by the neck, Lin Lin could not see the other person’s face at all. The magic wand was taken away, and Lin Lin swung in the air, trying to kick the person behind her, but she failed.
Lin Lin was very angry, and the stolen magic wand trembled with her.
"She looks very lively! Let’s choose her," the man, who Lin Lin could not see his face, continued, "She is a beautiful female human."
Lin Lin: …
It was the first time Lin Lin had received such abstract praise, as if she were just a cat in a pet shop.
Because the man said a few more words, Lin Lin felt that although his voice was not very familiar, she seemed to have heard it before.
The man was clearly talking to Safir.
The Sapphire Dragon lowered its eyes and gazed at Lin Lin, then focused on examining this human.
"There has never been a human among our subordinates," Safir’s voice was a familiar, deep sound.
"Oh?" The man’s tone lifted. "Then let her be the Demon King!"
Lin Lin: ???
Before Lin Lin saw Safir’s reaction, she felt a sharp pain in her neck and fainted.
–
Lin Lin woke up in the cold.
Her neck hurt, her limbs ached, and she lay on a bed with only a thin blanket, feeling as if she were lying directly on a wooden board.
The empty room had only one chair besides the bed.
Lin Lin reached up to touch her neck; the tape used to hide the Demon King Imprint had been ripped off by someone, and it was not torn cleanly, with some sticky residue still left.
Just like human fingerprints, each demon race leaves a different mark, and Lin Lin was not worried they would mistake her for a servant of any demon race from that time.
Lin Lin sat on the bed, reaching her hand into the air, but the magic wand did not appear.
The magic wand was completely taken away, which was to be expected.
Lin Lin moved to the edge of the bed and stared at the black floor.
This floor looked quite familiar.
Although the room was too empty, the style of the bed and the pattern on the door frame were very familiar to Lin Lin.
The wooden door opened from the outside, and the young man with blue hair seemed unsurprised by Lin Lin’s waking up, or rather, he was paying attention to her because he heard her wake.
However, Lin Lin’s long stillness made him cautious.
Lin Lin looked up at the young man standing in the doorway, who wore a sapphire earring in his left ear.
The two of them locked eyes.
Safir’s appearance looked much the same as it would two hundred years later, but there was a more arrogant and carefree air about his eyes and brows.
After being tormented by the Demon King for two hundred years, he must have become much more composed.
Lin Lin lowered her head again, sitting on the edge of the bed, her thick white stockings dangling boredly from beneath her long skirt.
"Why don’t you get off that bed?" Safir finally spoke up.
"My ankle boots are missing," Lin Lin stated this fact.
The air became still.
Lin Lin felt that Safir saw her words as a challenge, but two hundred years later, Safir would also feel unhappy if he thought his status was being challenged.
"Utterly foolish."
The door was slammed shut.
This kind of scolding did not worry Lin Lin much, or rather, because she had heard Safir’s more vicious insults towards the Demon King and other officials, Lin Lin even thought Safir was being rather polite to her.
It was truly strange; if it had been Safir from two hundred years later scolding her, Lin Lin might have felt that same rebellious spirit, but with Safir looking two hundred years younger saying the same thing, Lin Lin would not feel angry.
Soon after, the door was opened once more.
Lin Lin looked at the man in the thick suit and was not surprised at all.
She had always known that the brothers who were orcas had a cousin who was part of Demon King Castle.
Although it was a bit embarrassing, Lin Lin did not have a strong impression of Bulwo, but because his chest was just too impressive, as soon as Lin Lin saw the man, her brain instantly came alive, and memories associated with him surfaced automatically.
He was the one who always wore a three-piece suit, crossed dressing as a maid, liked to tease his younger brother, and had a strong interest in time travel, a former official from Demon King Castle.
Well, now he should be called a current official.
Bulwo brought a new pair of short boots.
"Just try to make do with what you have," Bulwo sighed, "when I brought you here, one of your shoes fell off, so I just tossed the other one too."
It seems Safir talked to him about the boots.
Lin Lin felt mixed emotions; even though Safir still couldn’t say anything nice, he was quite patient with others?
Lin Lin wondered if she was redefining "patience."
The new boots were a few sizes too big for Lin Lin, so she had to tie the laces tightly to walk properly.
Bulwo stepped out of the door, and Lin Lin immediately followed him.
Outside the door was a familiar long hallway.
Through the windows of the hallway, she could see the dim scenery outside.
Everything was a scene that Lin Lin knew very well; this was the inside of Demon King Castle.
The Demon King Castle did not disappear; it was hidden away by them in some way.
The man was tall, and although he wore a suit, he walked in a very relaxed and careless manner.
"This area is all bedrooms," Bulwo explained, pointing downstairs. "The kitchen is on the first floor, and there are some unpleasant things in the basement. I suggest you stay away from there."
Compared to the noise of various monsters two hundred years later, the Demon King Castle was quite quiet, with only the sound of their footsteps.
"Why are you telling me this?" Lin Lin thought she would be locked up; her identity as a light-type human mage seemed more like it would make her prey for the villains.
"Huh?" Bulwo slowed his pace and glanced at her. "You must have heard that I want you to become the Demon King."
Lin Lin made a face that said, "What are you talking about?"
Bulwo shrugged. "For example, when you believe that everyone is trash, but you have to choose a king."
Lin Lin looked up, watched the orca lower its head, and lightly touched her forehead with her cool finger. "I decided to make a cat the king!"
You are from the cat camp!
