Chapter 165: Not an Earthquake
Not everyone can chat with a dragon, even if this dragon tries very hard to be friendly.
When a huge dragon appears in front of them, most people’s instinctive reaction is to freeze, both their bodies and minds.
This is a kind of self-protection mechanism in the human body, to avoid actions that might anger the giant creature and lead to consequences they cannot handle.
After talking for more than ten minutes on its own, the noisy brass dragon stuck out its tongue to lick its lips. Lin Lin noticed that its tongue was forked, like a snake’s.
Maybe it likes to talk so much because it has two tongues, Lin Lin guessed randomly.
The now quiet Brass Dragon gazed at the group, then lowered its massive head slightly. Although it did not lean in too close, it still made it clear that it was focused on Lin Lin.
"Light-type mage," the Brass Dragon spoke again, "you seem very calm, and I really like your composure."
Meanwhile, the other three members of the group, who were not so calm and were on guard, felt their bodies slowly stiffen, covered by a layer of brass-colored film. The metallic sheen reflected on them, making them look like real bronze statues.
Lin Lin reached out to touch Lorken’s finger, which was cold and hard.
"Are they still alive?" Lin Lin asked, turning to the Brass Dragon.
The Brass Dragon rested its jaw on the ground, allowing it to see Lin Lin’s face more clearly.
"Alive," the Brass Dragon replied, "but their senses are blocked because I want you to tell the truth."
Lin Lin slowly turned around to look at the dragon.
Perhaps because the Brass Dragon loved talking to wise beings of different races and ages, it had excellent insight.
Likewise, they also had unparalleled curiosity.
"I am not the first dragon you have seen; have you seen other dragons and lived to tell the tale?"
Clearly, this Brass Dragon was familiar with how its unusual companions were.
Coincidentally, the Brass Dragon’s curiosity matched Lin Lin’s goal, as Lin Lin was quite an honest person.
"I have a Sapphire Dragon friend," Lin Lin said, "Do you know Safir?"
In Lin Lin’s speech, the word "Safir" is not a common term; it is more like the language of the Dragon race.
In the Demon King Castle, both the Demon King and Safir himself, even the Dark Elf Felix who really dislikes Safir, use the Dragon language when speaking Safir’s name.
In Lin Lin’s halting Dragon language, "Safir" is probably the clearest pronunciation she can muster.
When such smooth words came from the mouth of a human woman, the large brass head slowly squinted its eyes.
"Safir? Of course, I know his name; he is quite famous among young dragons," the Brass Dragon said, "No, he was well-known even as a young dragon; he is clever but is always lost in his books."
Lin Lin realized that although this Brass Dragon was small in size, he was older than Safir.
Lin Lin was sure that Safir himself did not know how famous he was; he had very few friends, and rumors hardly reached his ears.
Then, the Brass Dragon generously shared what he knew, "Safir is a distant Sapphire Dragon; he was meant to spend his life alone with books in a cold underground cave, but his pride cost him dearly."
"It is said that he played a game of chess with the God of Darkness, and Safir lost to the deity, so he must assist the Demon King in his rule." Brass Dragon smacked its lips, "If you ask me, everyone knows that no one can defeat a deity. He should not have agreed to that game in the first place."
But Lin Lin caught the key words, "Can the God of Darkness come to this world directly?"
You must know that, now and in the future, the God of Light can only convey His will through angels or believers.
Brass Dragon, instead of being angry at Lin Lin’s question, was very happy. It liked to see the longing for its knowledge, "Yes, although some call it the ‘Shadow of the God of Darkness’, being able to see a deity’s shadow is already quite amazing."
Brass Dragon only shared a little about the God of Darkness; it seemed more interested in Safir and the Demon King’s camp, and it could even comment on the strengths and weaknesses of each member.
Those names were quite unfamiliar to Lin Lin; even the "Demon King" mentioned by Brass Dragon was not the little lamb she imagined but looked much more powerful and imposing.
Brass Dragon spoke endlessly, while Lin Lin showed no interest.
Lin Lin silently picked up a soft cushion and sat down next to them.
After criticizing all the members of the Demon King Castle, Brass Dragon finally took a moment to tell Lin Lin, "The blanket you’re sitting on is very precious, it comes from the far east."
"Oh, I’m sorry," Lin Lin quietly stood up.
"You can sit for a while," said the Brass Dragon, showing its kindness. Then it frowned again, and under its scales, tiny movements of Dragon race muscles could be seen. "This Demon King group is too weak; it is really sad."
That’s okay, next time will be even weaker. Lin Lin thought quietly, that would be a hopeless situation.
Lin Lin could only ask some questions she wanted to know when the Brass Dragon seemed to have endless words.
For example, "How did you get your injury?"
Lin Lin asked this.
The Brass Dragon, who had been talking a lot about the history of human music, slowly closed its dragon mouth.
The human and the dragon looked at each other.
The Brass Dragon said a name, "Safir."
Lin Lin, "…Is it because you are too loud?"
The Brass Dragon just told so many stories about Safir, without mentioning the fact that he was hit at all.
–
"You are not a generous dragon; you are hiding something," Lin Lin challenged the Brass Dragon.
"You are not Safir’s friend either," the Brass Dragon said with an indifferent attitude, "You don’t understand him."
Hmm… Both wise creatures seem to be subtly competing.
Lin Lin noticed that the Brass Dragon seemed to enjoy this little insult; it probably made him feel like he was a dragon with the virtue of tolerance.
Compared to the picky Sapphire Dragon, the Brass Dragon is easier to please; you just need to listen to their words and go along with their topics.
But, a dragon is still a dragon.
Even though he did not show any signs of arrogance, the Brass Dragon had clearly made a decision for the humans present.
Staying in the dragon’s lair was safer and offered them a chance to gain knowledge compared to going out.
They could not leave the dragon’s lair.
The Brass Dragon was the best at raising creatures that Lin Lin had ever met, and she felt he must have cared for other beings in the same way.
Their food, sleep, and hygiene were taken care of, and Lin Lin felt like a hamster that had once been raised.
But hamsters are not pulled up by their owner to hear stories while they sleep.
Lin Lin’s bright nature and her knowledge of the unique Dark Camp dragon race made the Brass Dragon favor her in conversation.
Additionally, Lin Lin was more cooperative, while Lorken was much more restless in comparison.
He would show impatience while the Brass Dragon spoke and try every possible way to escape.
And the Brass Dragon was also skilled at dealing with fleeing prey.
Day after day passed.
Lin Lin even began to think that they might spend a long winter here, until spring arrived, when the Brass Dragon would go out as usual, giving them a chance to escape.
Then, one day, the earth trembled.
Lin Lin woke up on the soft grass bedding, and Lorken, who was more alert beside her, grabbed her arm and pulled her closer to the corner, saying, "There’s an earthquake."
Lin Lin got up, closed her eyes, and felt the vibrations of the earth.
"It’s not an earthquake," Lin Lin said, "the dragon is here."
