Chapter 158: You Don’t Have to Call My Name on Purpose
Lin Lin stroked Worgen’s fluffy head.
"The fur feels a bit soft," Lin Lin shared her experience of petting, "The Worgen I touched before had harder fur."
"Oh, you must be touching the first generation Worgen," Palin pointed to himself, his remaining green eye struggling to open wide, "I was a human when I was very young, and I became like this after being bitten by a Worgen."
It’s a victim!
"Oh no," Lin Lin’s hand that was stroking the Worgen’s fur trembled as she realized the topic had touched a sensitive spot.
"The process of turning from a human to a Worgen is indeed a bit strange," Palin recalled carefully, "the pain isn’t worth mentioning, I was seen as a monster by my parents, and the corn I used to love suddenly had no taste."
Lin Lin quietly withdrew her hand, but Palin wondered why she didn’t continue to pet him, "Please rub the back of my head some more; it’s always uncomfortable when I try to scratch it with my claws."
Lin Lin cooperatively rubbed the back of his head, and the Worgen’s layer of fat was quite thick; not to mention rubbing, even hitting him lightly with her fist wouldn’t hurt him.
"The good thing is I no longer have to listen to anyone’s rules, and my strength has increased a lot. With fur, winters become very warm," with Lin Lin rubbing him, Palin yawned, "I’m so sleepy."
The Worgen’s damp nose once again comfortably pressed against Lin Lin’s shoulder, and just before it was about to rest on her, Palin’s droopy ears suddenly perked up as if he remembered where he had smelled that familiar scent from on Lin Lin.
It was the scent he had once smelled on Lorken.
The woman who stole all of Lorken’s money and knocked him out!
Palin, who was about to approach Lin Lin, suddenly stopped and began to shift toward Lorken.
Unfortunately, his companion Lorken was no longer in that spot.
"The soup is not hot anymore," said the young man with gray and black hair as he took the bowl that Palin placed on the stone and handed it back to Lin Lin.
"Oh, thank you," Lin Lin nodded.
Lin Lin quietly lowered her head to drink the soup, and it was indeed spicy, which made her feel warm in the winter.
He did a good deed; he helped Lin Lin. Seeing Lin Lin just touch Palin, Lorken thought she must like to pet heads.
Lorken slightly lowered his head, so that he was at a height Lin Lin could easily reach.
Lin Lin smiled at him and nudged the bowl closer to herself while Lorken was looking down, so his hair wouldn’t touch her soup.
Lorken kept his head down and did not move.
Lin Lin’s polite smile remained unchanged, but the question mark on her face became more obvious.
Lorken suddenly got angry, the young man straightened his back, and then returned to his seat.
Lin Lin: …?
At that moment, the most confused was Worgen Palin, who thought he understood everything.
Watching the interaction between the two, Palin gave Lorken a look, hoping he would realize that this was the person who had blindfolded him and hit him.
Palin hoped Lorken had some self-awareness.
It was already hard to read Worgen’s furry face. Palin’s toothy grin made it seem like he had just finished a bowl of meat soup and had stuff stuck in his teeth.
Normally sharp-minded Lorken seemed a bit slow at this moment. The young man was in a bad mood, only letting out a grunt as he lowered his head to peel the skin off the fruit in his hand with a knife. After chewing the sour fruit, he finally spat it out because it was too sour.
It’s over, Palin thought, Lorken has lost his mind!
–
Familiar, a little too familiar.
Riding on horseback, Lin Lin held the reins and looked at the darkening sky.
Even though the clearly visible Red Moon in the demon realm had not yet appeared, Lin Lin sensed they were getting closer to the demon realm through the darkening sky and the various familiar plants.
The person who put out the mission about the dragon clearly saw the dragon as a threat to their peaceful lives, but when that dragon was between the demon realm and human life, Lin Lin felt that it would be safer for the person who issued the mission to move away in advance.
This is a temporary Adventurer Squad, and it isn’t a very dangerous mission; they only need to know whether the dragon has left or not, so the team’s management is quite loose.
Therefore, the ride was completely different from when Lin Lin followed the Paladin team.
When traveling with the Paladins, Lin Lin always had to speak softly; everyone was very quiet and alert, but this little adventurer squad was very lively and relaxed.
People were talking loudly, and the bard played a cheerful tune on the mouth organ.
The front of the line was too noisy, so Lin Lin slowed her horse down to stay at the back.
When Lin Lin fell to the back of the line, she noticed that another person was also slowing down.
It was a young woman with healthy, bronze skin and a neat, short, dark brown haircut that reached her ears. She looked a bit unfriendly when her face was serious.
Even in such cold weather, this woman was not wearing a thick cloak like Lin Lin, but rather a thin, single-layer top and pure cotton pants.
There were not many women in the group, and Lin Lin had noticed her as soon as she entered the line, but she had not had a chance to get closer.
"Hello," Lin Lin said first, showing the other person a friendly smile.
After Lin Lin spoke, the woman looked up and nodded at her, saying, "Veridan."
The woman with the bow and arrows introduced herself, and Lin Lin pointed to herself, saying, "My name is Lin Lin. Aren’t you cold dressed so lightly?"
Lin Lin also knew a few warm spells, but compared to the fire wizard Norman, her spells were not very effective.
Veridan was a beautiful woman with an aloof gaze. When she heard Lin Lin’s question, she showed a faint smile and brushed aside her short hair that covered her ears, revealing pointed ears similar to those of an elf. "Changes in natural temperature don’t harm me much."
Lin Lin’s eyes returned to Veridan’s skin color and hair. She had seen many different races when she was out, including Wood Elves.
Compared to Moon Elves, Wood Elves are not as rare. Although they live in forests all year round, they also visit human markets during large gatherings or shopping trips.
Wood Elves have darker skin and hair, and they always stay close together, making them quite noticeable when they go out.
"Wood Elf?" Lin Lin lowered her voice, unsure if Veridan wanted others to know her race.
Veridan raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised by Lin Lin’s sharpness. "You’re right. Although I usually say I am a mixed-blood of Moon Elf and other races for convenience."
Early humans had a stereotype of elves having white skin, and they preferred to think of Wood Elves as a type of monster rather than believing they were elves too.
Wood Elves are a bit clannish. Lin Lin had never successfully spoken to a Wood Elf before, and she couldn’t help but lean closer to Veridan. "Are you practicing?"
Like the Moon Elf that Lin Lin knows?
Veridan shrugged, "I guess so. I just simply enjoy being around people."
It might be because Lin Lin had experience dealing with elves; by the time the group reached the latest resting spot, their relationship had become quite good.
Palin had warned Lorken all the way that Lin Lin was a dangerous woman and advised him not to fall into any dangerous traps.
Lorken patiently insisted to Palin that he had not fallen into any so-called "female trap."
The horses were stopped in a single spot, happily grazing, while people gradually spread out. Some wanted to rest in place, while others were eager to go exploring.
The captain did not restrict the members too much, and Lorken decided to catch some animals to improve their meals. Although he did not care much about what Lin Lin was doing, he still glanced at her.
Lorken turned to see Lin Lin already happily linked arms with a strange woman.
The tall woman seemed uncomfortable with such affection and pulled her arm away from Lin Lin.
Lin Lin clearly showed a surprised expression, and then the human woman looked down, her deep brown eyes sparkling, "I’m sorry, I was a bit too friendly."
No! She was not friendly at all! Lorken knew well how cold and indifferent this woman was when she faced him.
Obviously, the tall woman hesitated for a moment because of Lin Lin’s words, then brought her arm back close to Lin Lin, who smiled and linked her arm again.
Lorken: …
Lorken, "Palin, let’s go."
Palin glanced at the direction Lorken was looking, "You don’t need to call my name on purpose; they can’t hear you."
Lorken took his gaze away from Palin and walked forward with big steps.
Palin called Lorken’s name twice.
This noise caught Lin Lin’s attention, and she saw the direction Lorken was going and said, "Lorken, wait a moment!"
The young man had a slight smile at the corner of his lips but did not stop. He continued to walk forward with large strides.
A Chomper with fiery red lips looked down and swallowed half a person in one gulp.
Lin Lin slowly let out the unfinished words, "…there’s a Chomper ahead."
She worriedly looked towards Lorken. Even though Lin Lin didn’t have a good feeling about the young man who stole her money, she didn’t want to see someone get eaten by a Chomper.
After Lin Lin spoke, the Wood Elf standing with her looked down, his dark eyes on Lin Lin, "How do you know about dark plants?"
Lin Lin blinked, "My friend told me."
The Wood Elf looked towards Lorken and Worgen, then raised an eyebrow at Lin Lin, "I guess you have quite a few friends?"
