Chapter 147: No One Dared to Argue With Safir
The first day of the New Year looked like a quite ordinary day.
The sun rose as usual, and the blue sky spread out in the direction of the gaze, as the demon realm regained the light of day.
The Demon King Castle was decorated with New Year’s decorations, adding a bit of lively atmosphere to this once peaceful area.
Snowflakes are swirling outside the window, and Lin Lin’s work is coming to an end.
She has opened a small gap in the office window, and fresh, cold air flows in. Lin Lin takes a deep breath and feels that the air quality has improved as the weather brightens.
This is clearly a comfort to her mind.
Perhaps because of the upcoming New Year, Lin Lin feels a little lazy. She has been busy catching up on work and hasn’t used up many of her vacation days. Lin Lin justifiably gives herself half an afternoon off.
Great! When the weather is so bright, it is the perfect time to uplift oneself!
Lin Lin opened a few books that Sapphire Dragon had recommended a long time ago.
Safir has recommended so many books; this is the first one that Lin Lin has picked up and put down countless times without finishing.
Lin Lin moved her chair to a spot close to the window.
The cool breeze blows, the fireplace in the room is burning, and behind her is the sight of falling snow and the soft sounds of creatures crunching through the snow beneath the castle.
It truly feels like a comfortable atmosphere.
Lin Lin turned the pages of the book one after another, and after half an hour, she started to feel sleepy.
Her eyelids drooped a few times, and finally, they shut tightly.
Her mind and ears were working, but her brain and eyes felt heavy and fuzzy.
Suddenly, Lin Lin heard the sound of the door being pushed open.
Not knowing who it was, with the book still open in her lap, Lin Lin looked up in the direction of the door.
It was hard to even open her eyes, but her brain jolted when she recognized who was there.
Lin Lin stood up, and the book fell from her lap. Just then, a cold breeze brushed against her forehead, and Lin Lin said, "Lord Safir?"
Lin Lin’s back instinctively straightened.
The Sapphire Dragon is the only one Lin Lin calls with a title in the Demon King Castle.
The Demon King does not count, as his name is already Demon King.
Safir is wearing soft armor, and sometimes Lin Lin secretly wonders if this outfit is made from dragon scales, but knowing Safir’s personality, he probably wouldn’t answer and would tease her for being too curious.
"You comforted the Demon King," Safir’s time is always precious; as soon as he steps into the room, the Sapphire Dragon speaks, "so the Red Moon has disappeared."
Lin Lin thought for a moment and realized Safir was talking about last night, "Yes, because I heard he hasn’t gone out for a long time."
Lin Lin thought a bit more and added, "I am worried about him."
At this point, Lin Lin felt a little resentment towards Safir; his attitude towards the Demon King was quite harsh, resembling that of a strict feudal patriarch in her mind.
Lin Lin believed that although Your Majesty the Demon King is a bit sensitive, he is also easy to comfort and that his life wouldn’t be too affected; there was no need for extra pressure at this moment.
Sure enough, after Lin Lin expressed her concern for the Demon King, Safir frowned slightly.
The Sapphire Dragon showed a clear sign of disagreement.
"You should let him figure it out himself, instead of coddling him," Safir said.
"He looks really in pain," Lin Lin emphasized, "When I went to his room, he couldn’t even get out of bed."
What Lin Lin described did not sway Safir at all.
"That is exactly because of his weakness in character." The Sapphire Dragon’s tone was calm and steady, and the earring on his left ear did not move at all.
His stubbornness made Lin Lin a bit angry.
The relationship between the two was very delicate; Safir was the person Lin Lin respected the most in Demon King Castle, but her good temper did not extend to him.
Lin Lin’s attitude towards Safir was even a little sharp.
Lin Lin could not handle things as easily as she did with the two young killer whales, or even the captured vampire, even though their attitude towards Lin Lin was sometimes worse.
Lin Lin was easier to anger in front of Safir, even though that was often not Safir’s intention.
"You can’t order everyone to be just like you," Lin Lin emphasized, "Your Majesty the Demon King has his own choices."
"That’s very nice," Safir said calmly, "Our Majesty does indeed have his own choices, relying on a human woman’s shoulder instead of thinking about how to solve problems himself."
The Sapphire Dragon’s bright blue eyes looked at the shoulder on Lin Lin’s left side, the very place the Demon King leaned against yesterday, and near the spot of the Demon King Imprint.
Compared to Lin Lin, Safir understood much better what the demon race was truly attached to.
Safir’s gaze was too obvious; Lin Lin touched her left shoulder, not understanding why the Sapphire Dragon knew about the Demon King’s actions.
Perhaps it was for this reason that the Dragon race could see things others could not feel, which is why Safir was so confident and arrogant.
Lin Lin really disliked Safir’s attitude that only he was the correct one.
"He still needs to grow," Lin Lin softened her voice, knowing that compared to Safir, Your Majesty the Demon King was more like a young demon who had just entered adulthood, and he had grown up in a rather simple environment in the Demon King Castle, "He is still very young."
No one dared to argue with Safir; this was a rare experience for him, but it was even more unpleasant.
Safir hated this pointless tugging.
The Sapphire Dragon’s gaze fell on Lin Lin, his brow furrowed, his expression turning impatient and cold.
"Yeah…" Safir spoke slowly, deliberately lowering his voice, but Lin Lin heard every word clearly.
"He will need more time to grow than your entire life," the Sapphire Dragon’s voice was cold, his thin lips, characteristic of the chilly Dragon race, spat venom. "In the next hundred years, how will you comfort him when he feels down?"
Lin Lin’s face turned a little pale; she showed an expression of disbelief.
She took a step back, and the book that Safir had recommended, which had accidentally fallen to the ground, was stepped on by her shoe, the fragile pages making a sharp sound.
Everything fell silent.
Time between the long-lived and the short-lived is a sharp dagger.
In the past, Lin Lin used to wave this dagger around carelessly. She never thought that the clever and proud Dragon race would learn to use her methods to harm and suppress her.
Lin Lin stared at Safir, her deep brown eyes unwavering.
Her once gentle and warm eyes started to burn with quiet flames.
Safir looked at her too.
For the Dragon race, staring at someone didn’t really matter; even with just a glance, their sharp vision could help them notice everything around them.
But Safir learned this method from Lin Lin, which was a form of mental resistance.
Facing Lin Lin’s fierce gaze, the Sapphire Dragon blinked slowly and calmly, then continued to look at her coldly.
If Miss Lizardfolk Donna were here, she would tell Lin Lin.
This way of blinking is actually an uncommon behavior among the Dragon race. Unlike humans, the Dragon race can blink very rarely, and a sudden blink is a small action they couldn’t control.
No one backed down, no one lowered their head.
Time froze in the air.
Until another person burst into Lin Lin’s office.
Seconds seemed to hurry past.
Caligo arrived at Lin Lin’s office, holding a thick stack of books that blocked part of his view.
"Lin Lin, I think you can…" the human Dark Mage’s words got stuck in his throat, and Caligo was unsure why Safir was here.
After all, Safir always looked busy with his own matters.
But Caligo still spoke seriously, "Teacher Safir."
The cold-faced Dragon race nodded slightly, as a way of responding coolly.
Lin Lin widened her eyes and looked at Safir.
Safir agreed to let Caligo call him "teacher"? When she first called him that, he mocked and teased her.
Lin Lin’s magic wand suddenly appeared in her hand, and a beam of white light shot toward calm-faced Safir.
Caligo covered his mouth.
As if they could not see the white light, the Dragon race nodded to Caligo and turned away, leaving only their back.
Just as the white light was about to touch the Dragon race’s soft armor, it vanished into a puff of smoke.
Caligo, pressed tightly against the doorframe and trying to make himself less noticeable, looked around, completely unsure of why this situation had happened.
Then he heard Lin Lin’s cold voice, "Come in."
Caligo did not really want to go in.
The red-haired boy raised the corner of his lips, trying to pull out a natural smile, "I just think we can make a work ledger so that even with shifts, everyone will feel a bit easier."
Caligo is truly a hardworking and smart person.
Lin Lin had to admit that Safir was right to let him call him "Teacher."
But it is just so annoying.
Scared by Lin Lin’s expression, Caligo hugged the book close to his chest and said uncertainly, "Did I come at the wrong time?"
"It’s okay, your suggestion is very good," Lin Lin ruffled his hair.
Compared to the tall and proud dragon, the small human boy looked much friendlier.
Lin Lin said, "It’s none of your business."
Caligo shivered, feeling that the scariest thing adults can say is that.
–
Angry, very angry, Lin Lin hadn’t been this angry in a long time.
She was so upset that she couldn’t fall asleep in bed.
Even though she had a top-quality soft bed from Demon King Castle, her mind was very alert.
Every time Lin Lin closed her eyes, she saw Safir’s arrogant and cold face.
That guy started talking to her about the theory of lifespan, which really showed he had some talent.
The theory of lifespan can be a topic for jokes, but in most cases, it’s a way for short-lived beings to entertain themselves.
On the other hand, when long-lived beings mention it in front of short-lived ones, it becomes a very offensive topic.
For example, if someone has curly hair, they can joke about having messy and voluminous hair by themselves, but if others laugh and say it’s hard to manage, it can make them feel upset.
Lin Lin felt that she had been too nice to Safir in the afternoon; she should learn more powerful light spells and use them all on Safir.
In her anger, Lin Lin eventually fell asleep because she was too tired.
She still slept restlessly; even though it was nighttime, her tightly closed eyes sensed many lights.
A faint candle flame, bright sunlight, and even flickering flames.
Unrelated and chaotic scenes.
Walking in the forest, walking on the beach, and even walking barefoot on hard rocks.
Countless pieces of overwhelming information flooded into her mind.
Causing Lin Lin’s head to feel heavy, while her body couldn’t move at all.
She couldn’t wake up.
The last time Lin Lin’s mind was filled with so much information was when she stepped into the realm of the God of Light.
The realm of the deity was filled with such complex information that Lin Lin’s brain could hardly understand it.
Tense.
So tense that her breathing became quick.
"Lin?" Someone called her name.
Lin Lin wanted to open her eyes; she tried hard but could not succeed.
"Lin?" The person called again.
Bright light suddenly appeared.
Lin Lin opened her eyes.
In the dimly lit basement, the two men looked at her with some confusion.
The Death Knight standing next to her reached out to touch her forehead, checking to see if she had a fever, "What happened to you?"
Orion asked her.
Lin Lin blinked, pinched her arm to make sure she was awake.
"What happened to me?" Lin Lin replied.
"You suddenly closed your eyes and stopped talking!" said the Blood Clan in the cage, "It looked very strange."
Lin Lin looked down and opened her hand a bit, "I was just sleeping, then I opened my eyes and saw you all."
After Lin Lin said this, she noticed the vampire looking at her with a silly expression.
Oh no, I made a silly face in front of a fool!
"Forget it, just pretend I was joking," Lin Lin looked around and her gaze landed on the paper cranes behind the Blood Clan, "Is it New Year’s now?"
Because on New Year’s Day, all the origami had already been used to decorate Demon King Castle.
Orion replied, "Yes."
She returned to the day before New Year, and Lin Lin remembered that after she left the basement, she went to comfort the Demon King.
So annoying, really so frustrating, because of Safir’s interference, Lin Lin had no patience to talk kindly to the Demon King.
Lin Lin looked at the Death Knight, "Orion, do you have the training whip? The ones that are often placed in your training room."
Lin Lin learned this from Norman.
Orion clearly hesitated for a moment, then decided to ask about its purpose, "May I ask, Miss Lin, what do you want to use it for?"
Lin Lin’s voice was calm, "To encourage the Demon King to become independent and reflect on himself."
Orion was silent for two seconds, "I don’t have that kind of thing."
The vampire said, "I do."
