Chapter 146: Whose Little Lamb Is So Strong?
Lin Lin walked in the hallway of Demon King Castle, and because the New Year would arrive tomorrow, Demon King Castle was busier than usual.
Inside Demon King Castle, besides the staff and necessary personnel, most of the creatures were harmless little monsters.
These little monsters had not yet grown in body or mind, standing only as tall as a small child’s leg. They loved celebrating the New Year, and many of them were seeing snow for the first time and celebrating New Year for the first time.
When they grew up a bit more, Demon King Castle would no longer provide shelter, and they would have to go out to live on their own.
Lin Lin heard that the old Demon King Castle was not open to little monsters, and this new rule was made after the little black sheep became the Demon King.
Perhaps it was because Lin Lin gave off the aura of the Demon King’s contract, or maybe because her scent was the softest in Demon King Castle, the little monsters liked to gather around her.
It was impossible to make sense of a conversation with the little magical creatures. Lin Lin raised her leg and stepped over those small things, avoiding their welcome.
The little creatures warmly greeted the next worker passing through the corridor.
Lin Lin was on her way to the Demon King’s bedroom.
Because Orion said, "The Demon King hasn’t gone out in a long time," Lin Lin decided to go and see.
By the time Lin Lin reached the Demon King’s room, she was quite familiar with the way. She simply knocked on the door and said, "I’m coming in," then naturally pushed the door open.
The Demon King’s room does not lock.
No one would intrude foolishly just because the door was unlocked, even those little creatures with fuzzy brains wouldn’t, just like most humans wouldn’t want to climb into a tiger’s cage and greet the tiger.
Everyone had an idea of who was being protected by that closed door.
Just by pushing the door open, Lin Lin sensed something was wrong; a cool breeze brushed across her face, and her warm, friendly smile froze on her lips.
Even Lin Lin, who did not understand dark magic, felt that something was not quite right about the current situation.
Black mist enveloped the room, and the overly large, soft bed was tangled in dense black lines, making it hard to see what was happening on the bed with just the naked eye.
It looked worse than the day Lin Lin sent the Demon King back.
Half-drawn black curtains revealed the brightly colored Red Moon hanging in the sky.
Upon sensing another person in the room, some of the black lines that had tightly surrounded the Demon King floated up from the bed and spiraled around Lin Lin.
The black lines seemed like fish swimming in the air, curiously and cautiously observing Lin Lin.
"Oh dear, it seems His Majesty is not doing well," Lin Lin closed the door, and the restored quiet environment calmed the previously restless black lines, but they still lingered around Lin Lin.
Lin Lin approached the Demon King’s bed, lifting a corner of the layered black canopy, and in the room filled with black mist, she saw a young man wrapped in blanket after blanket in the center.
His curly, thick black hair spread out on the matching black blankets, shining and well-kept, while his violet eyes glowed with a deep light in the darkness.
He is awake.
"Your Majesty the Demon King," Lin Lin spoke again, hoping to catch his attention.
Her goal was achieved; after she spoke, the violet-eyed gaze turned towards Lin Lin.
Lin Lin is human, and just like the people in the Demon King Castle do not understand humans, Lin Lin does not understand the other races either.
But sometimes, Lin Lin feels some delayed realizations.
This is the Demon King.
Such meaningless phrases came to Lin Lin’s mind.
The light from the red moon fell on her, as she reached out to lift the bed curtain.
The young man in the bed had a vacant and calm expression.
After looking at Lin Lin, he did not speak, but very naturally opened a small gap in the layered blankets and reached out his hands.
The black silk nightgown clung to the young man’s pale body, and the collar spread apart because of his movement.
There was no silly smile as usual, nor were there tearful eyes; the demon race, controlled by instinct, tilted his face up, with twisted horns spiraling from his forehead.
This is so terrible, Lin Lin thought.
Why did he not say anything? Lin Lin already knew what he wanted to do.
[When something that one has always wanted cannot be satisfied, the demon race can sometimes fall into a state of following their instincts.]
Lin Lin thought of Safir’s explanation about the Demon King’s poor condition.
She reached out her palm and held onto a part of the Demon King’s index finger.
The body temperature of the demon race is colder than that of humans, but it does not make one feel uncomfortably cold.
After the two met, a ripple like a glimmer of water appeared in the empty and calm eyes of the Demon King.
The black mist blurred his face, but because of this, the slight changes in the shining eyes in the darkness became even more apparent.
Lin Lin was pulled onto his soft bed by the Demon King.
The Princess and the Pea’s big bed was excessively fluffy and soft. After taking off her shoes and kneeling on the bed, she could clearly feel the mattress sinking.
Such a soft bed isn’t really good for humans, Lin Lin thought. Sometimes, the more important the moment, the more unimportant things crowded her mind.
Just like during high school exams, she sometimes found songs she hadn’t heard in a long time playing repeatedly in her head.
Pulled in front of the Demon King, Lin Lin clearly saw his deep-set eyes and brows.
And the small Adam’s apple that stood out on his pale neck.
A black thread surrounded them, and the thick, long eyelashes of Your Majesty the Demon King trembled and drooped, looking as if they might break.
A young man wrapped in soft blankets still could not feel warm.
Lin Lin saw her pure white cloak again at the corner of the blankets.
Her gaze was drawn to the cloak.
This time, the furry cloak looked less smooth than before; perhaps it had been held too long, becoming damp and messy with sweat.
A sweet scent floated in the air, familiar to Lin Lin, a smell as sweet as honey.
When Lin Lin was around him, His Majesty the Demon King seemed to feel a little better.
Lin Lin’s hands were tightly held by him; the demon race was not applying much force, but his hand trembled slightly.
"I dreamed of you…" His Majesty the Demon King spoke, his voice hoarse, "I dreamed that you disappeared again."
Lin Lin’s gaze shifted from the cloak back to her hands, which were tightly held by someone.
Lin Lin tried to pull one hand away, but the young man’s hand, which seemed to be loosely holding her, did not let her go.
I am important. Lin Lin realized this.
In modern life, people often keep an appropriate social distance, and Lin Lin was not a warm-hearted person.
She had never experienced the sadness that could come from others staying away.
She was the one marked with a brand, she was the one bound by a contract, so why did the tall demon race look more like the one being restricted?
"That was a dream," Lin Lin answered softly, "I am here now."
There are no baseless dreams. His Majesty the Demon King lowered his gaze and saw Lin Lin in his palm, her hand gently open.
The demon race has excellent night vision, and he could clearly see the pale hand open before him.
There was a pause. The Demon King realized that Lin Lin was deliberately showing her hand, just like she sometimes played little games before.
Your Majesty the Demon King is a thoughtful person, but he easily gets distracted.
Lin Lin’s understanding of the Demon King has been confirmed again. Lin Lin can guarantee that the Demon King, whether working or doing homework, always writes and stops, completing tasks in bits and pieces.
His deep and gloomy emotions are the same.
Like a silly little black sheep that keeps stepping into traps no matter how many times.
The Demon King buried his head in Lin Lin’s open palm.
A cool breath brushed against her hand, making Lin Lin’s wrist curl slightly from the itch.
The skin in her hand clearly felt the features of his face—his eyebrows, eyes, nose, and lips.
Because she was so familiar with him, she could clearly picture where each feature matched on her palm.
The Demon King, filled with sadness from a dream.
He looked a little pitiful and also a bit funny, Lin Lin thought.
A drop of liquid fell from Lin Lin’s fingertip, and she couldn’t tell if it was sweat or tears.
A little bit of liquid flowed through the gaps in Lin Lin’s fingers, but it dried up after spreading only a small area.
The sticky air felt even stronger, as if it was a real thing, swirling around.
Tonight is the night before the New Year, and some creatures stay awake all night, wanting to open their eyes wide to welcome the new year.
Outside the castle was lively.
Suddenly, someone shouted loudly, "It’s snowing!"
Lin Lin looked up and instinctively turned her gaze toward the window.
From the corner of the bed curtain that she had previously lifted, Lin Lin saw pure white snowflakes drifting outside.
The Red Moon looked softer because of the drifting pure white snow.
Lin Lin’s lips curled up, and before she could focus on the snow scene, someone tugged at her hands.
Lin Lin saw His Majesty the Demon King lift his head, his purple eyes glaring at her with a hint of sadness because she was not paying attention.
But his eyes were moist, with a hint of red at the corners, so his glare felt as light as a feather.
Lin Lin felt a bit guilty.
She had come to comfort him, and she was indeed distracted. But it wasn’t because Lin Lin thought the Demon King couldn’t see her.
Lin Lin gave a dry laugh and reached out to brush her fingers against the warmth of the young man’s tear-stained eyes, but he turned his head away, not allowing her to touch him.
The curly black hair glided through her fingertips, as smooth as satin.
"Are you angry?" Lin Lin asked.
The Demon King kept his eyes closed and did not speak.
"Oh my, you are really angry," Lin Lin clicked her tongue, "Which little lamb is so fierce and can get mad?"
Lin Lin usually thought of him in her heart as Your Majesty the Demon King, but rarely said it out loud.
When she said it on purpose, it had a teasing meaning.
Not only was there no comfort, but it also added fuel to the fire.
As Lin Lin tried to touch the Demon King’s hand, he tightened his grip and pressed down.
Lin Lin looked up at Your Majesty the Demon King, who was much taller than her, as he leaned over and came closer to her.
His slightly cool breath brushed against her face.
Even though Your Majesty the Demon King was much taller than her, he really liked to observe her from below.
Neck, throat, jaw, lips, nose, eyes.
The young man’s feeling of grievance from being teased had not faded, and his gaze was fixed on Lin Lin’s slightly pink lips.
Lin Lin lowered her head and said "Hmm?" in confusion.
The purple eyes were hidden behind long and thick eyelashes, while the small curly black sheep weakly leaned on Lin Lin’s shoulder.
The thick scent in the air became even stronger.
