Chapter 135: Norman
Even though Twanasha was a Fallen Angel, she knew some common knowledge about the human world.
For example, most people might not like strangers suddenly entering their space.
So, even though she had once communicated with humans among the angels, Twanasha, who was not very skilled at communication, hesitated, wondering what to do if the other person was very uncooperative.
Fortunately, everything went even smoother than Twanasha had imagined, or rather, it was overly smooth.
The human woman who was the target seemed to be used to all sorts of absurd situations.
Lin Lin looked at the Fallen Angel climbing in through the window and said, "You’re just in time, help us take off the collar."
The accountant lady showed a very natural attitude of calling someone, for some unknown reason.
This attitude reminded Twanasha of the black sheep from Demon King Castle.
Caligo, who had been struggling with Lin Lin, felt very confused, "Do you know him?"
"I don’t know," Lin Lin replied.
Caligo began to regret why he asked that extra question.
The last angel had left a not-so-good impression on Caligo, and even though this angel’s wings looked a bit strange, the boy still acted very cautiously, "What are you here to do?"
Twanasha thought seriously for two seconds, "To do nothing."
The Fallen Angel answered with such certainty.
Now not only Caligo but even Lin Lin showed a look of confusion.
Then, Lin Lin saw Fallen Angel pull out a Polaroid camera from nowhere and take a picture of the two of them sitting on the bed, lost in thought.
Good, it proved that he really found Lin Lin. His mission was complete.
Twanasha was always someone who wouldn’t do any extra work. The Demon King gave him a very clear task: find Lin Lin.
Fallen Angel remained cold and calm, "Goodbye."
Caligo, "…Wait a moment."
At the moment Twanasha took the photo, Caligo suddenly realized that this was a crucial moment for the survival of his life.
Caligo stepped away from Lin Lin and jumped down from the bed, "You need to take the picture again."
Although Twanasha didn’t understand this behavior, he did as he was told.
Lin Lin also jumped down from the bed. While Twanasha took the photo and waited for the Polaroid to develop, she circled around Twanasha and reached out to grab a handful of his gray feathers.
The Fallen Angel looked taller and slimmer than the short-haired curly-haired angel; they had similar faces.
Lin Lin guessed that maybe the angels didn’t have the usual kind of blood relationship, but they were indeed like "brothers."
Staring at the light gray feathers, Lin Lin suddenly remembered that she had seen a corner of a gray feather before, when she was attacked by a vampire, it was the gray wings that protected her.
Lin Lin stood beside him, and Twanasha thought of her recent request to remove the collar.
Unlike the battle-type angels, Twanasha was better at mind magic; he reached out and touched the collar around Lin Lin’s neck.
The other person looked up, and her deep brown eyes trusted him completely, raising her chin to show more of the collar.
This collar had been "polished" many times by mermaids; Twanasha could almost see the layers of wear on it.
When the Fallen Angel’s finger pressed down, a faint light responded, but it stopped there.
This collar had many restrictions; just like a chain, it was full of protections for the woman it enchanted.
Twanasha lowered her eyes. Most battle-type angels are slow, but clearly the other person, even though they did not know where the problem was, still recognized Lin Lin’s importance. So, Lenidien cast a complicated spell.
Twanasha felt a little sorry. If he were still the pure and unblemished angel, he might have been able to open the collar, but now he could not.
After shaking her head at Lin Lin, Twanasha waved to Caligo, trying that which Lenidien did not value.
Caligo still felt cautious towards Twanasha, but he was also a very curious person.
The rare Fallen Angel waved to him, and he really wanted to know what the other person wanted.
Just as no puppy can escape a human’s calls, Caligo could not escape the hint of "Come and try it."
Caligo stepped in front of Twanasha, and the Fallen Angel reached out, touching Caligo’s collar.
Twanasha easily felt the difference. Compared to Lin Lin’s collar, Caligo’s collar looked similar, but the restrictions were very weak. Even if it wasn’t purely a power of light, it was still worth a try.
Twanasha’s fingers twisted, and Caligo’s collar cracked open with a sound. The collar split neatly in a straight line, dividing it into two half-circles.
Caligo: …?
Happiness came so suddenly that Caligo raised his hand, and a magic wand appeared in his palm as if responding to him. The spells that had been restricted returned to him.
"Why can Caligo break free?" Lin Lin expressed her displeasure.
"Because Lenidien didn’t care about him in the first place, so the restrictions were different," Twanasha replied sincerely.
Caligo, who had been undervalued, felt no dissatisfaction; he even felt grateful.
"Ah?" Lin Lin frowned, "Am I important?"
Lin Lin completely did not understand what made her important. Could it be that light-type mages had become so rare that each one needed special attention?
"I don’t know the exact reason," Twanasha began, "but the God of Light must really like you."
Fallen Angel said something that left Lin Lin confused.
"Because both Lenidien and I like you," Twanasha said expressionlessly.
"We are both part of the God of Light."
–
The moon hid behind the misty clouds, and a soft light fell on the sanctuary.
The meditation room was cold and dark, and a faint smell of blood lingered in the air.
Clear cold water washed away the marks left by the whip on his strong back, and Holy Knight Commander’s golden short hair got wet from the cold water too.
The last trace of blood washed away by the water flowed into the drain, while Norman wrapped his back wound with a white cloth and then dried his hair partly.
There were too many whip marks on his back, and the simple white cloth could not cover all the deep red scars beneath his pale skin.
As Norman tightened the bandage, his muscles tensed up from the pain, making him bite his teeth and take a quick breath.
The cold air rushed into his nose and mouth, making his mind feel even clearer and calmer.
The Knight Commander would purposely avoid the knights’ training times to hold himself accountable and reflect, but obviously, during this period, he came to the training room more often than usual.
The dark whip used by Norman was soaked in a potion for disinfection and then hung back on the wall.
This whip causes much more pain when it strikes, so the knights wouldn’t choose it if they only intended to reflect.
The whip was hung back in its original place, and even though Norman didn’t use a chair, he still reached out to place the cold chair back where it belonged.
There wasn’t much in the training room to begin with.
Norman looked at the flag in the center of the training room.
Although it was built in a sanctuary, as a special training room for Paladins, there were no statues or runes of the God of Light, and the Paladin’s flag was placed in the center.
The knights once vowed to this flag to be brave, just, and loyal.
Norman closed his eyes and quietly prayed, then put on his coat and left the underground room.
He should have quietly returned to the Paladin group before the sun rose to continue his work, but evidently, someone did not want him to.
In the silent alley, Vivian, dressed in a pearly white dress, waved to him; unlike humans, mermaids felt lively at night.
"Norman, my friend." The mermaid could smell a drop of blood from a hundred meters away, and Vivian frowned slightly as he spoke.
To Vivian, it seemed like Norman was standing in a mist of blood.
The blood of a friend did not excite his mouth’s saliva; in fact, thinking of his friend’s wounds made Vivian feel quite down.
At that moment, Vivian could even laugh at himself; after so long of going against his instincts, even a mermaid’s taste had changed.
The Holy Knight Commander’s gaze fell on Vivian, and then he noticed the emptiness behind him; there was no one else there.
Norman sighed with relief, "You didn’t bring any troublemakers this time, did you? Thanks to you, the sanctuary’s security has been strengthened."
The complaints of the people working overtime in the sanctuary became even stronger.
"It’s really making a big deal out of nothing," Vivian shrugged, "that group of old-timers has no idea how hard it is for those below them."
"The ones really adding to others’ workload are you," the Knight Commander pointed out the truth.
Vivian pulled out half a sheet of white paper from the soft, wide sleeve of his coat, then handed it to Norman.
Norman saw the sticker on it, a golden sticker with a picture of a puppy.
"Lin is a very obedient and caring girl," Vivian began, "she tries her best to support others and is very good at listening to their advice. She found back the stickers you dropped years ago."
Norman took the sticker, his bright blue eyes hidden under thick eyelashes, and did not speak.
"So, she entered every place you entered back then. She got into the heart of the sanctuary."
"She is also a child chosen by the gods, and yet you returned her to me."
"Norman," Vivian said again, calling out his friend’s name.
"Did you go against the will of the gods?"
