Chapter 134: The Fallen Angel Speaks
Lin Lin wanted to pull Sandy to think of another way, but Sandy was a pure person.
He thought Lin Lin was too weak, and Vivian could not enter the sanctuary; both of them were holding him back. He needed to think of a different plan.
Sandy waved goodbye to Lin Lin in a cool way.
Lin Lin looked at Sandy’s determined back and, for some reason, felt more uneasy the more confident Sandy appeared.
Lin Lin went back to school with Vivian.
It was already late at night, and the sky still had a hint of cold light before dawn.
Vivian listened patiently to where Lin Lin had been.
When Lin Lin talked about the place with the huge statue of the God of Light, Vivian rubbed his chin and said, "Oh? You went there? That must be the heart of the temple."
Lin Lin looked up, surprised by how relaxed the other person’s tone was.
"Uh," Vivian shrugged, "we wouldn’t really get punished for having too many stickers, right? Back then, the sanctuary was quite lenient with everyone, and Norman was already favored by the sanctuary; they wouldn’t want to give him a record."
"So, back then, you and Norman also went into the statue area?" Lin Lin imagined them at fifteen or sixteen, unable to picture the outcome.
Just as Norman couldn’t connect fifteen-year-old Lin Lin to adult Lin Lin right away, Lin Lin couldn’t imagine Norman’s fifteen-year-old self.
For humans, a few years is enough time for significant physical and mental changes to occur.
"Yes, we went in because Norman was chosen by the gods, so the door opened easily," Vivian said with a look of nostalgia. "Thanks to Norman, I also got to see that statue that typical worshippers don’t get to see."
Even when Vivian narrated plainly, his voice was still very pleasant, making it easy to listen.
Lin Lin remained quiet as the cool night breeze brushed through the mermaid’s gray-purple hair.
"At that time, I just thought the statue was huge and required a lot of craftsmanship. I even felt that having such a spacious room with just one statue was a bit of a waste," Vivian said. "Norman cried."
Lin Lin looked up and saw the mermaid’s eyes, which were always slightly tipsy and filled with laughter.
The mermaid was a great storyteller; he lowered his head, took Lin Lin’s hand, and matched her slower pace.
"Norman cried, and later I heard he received a message from the gods that day. At that moment, I watched Norman and then the statue that meant nothing to me, feeling completely lost." The mermaid smiled.
"I only understood this after I graduated; life begins to say goodbye when you’re not ready, in just a single moment."
"But you and Norman are still very good friends," Lin Lin emphasized.
"I guess so," Vivian accepted her comfort.
Then the mermaid showed a bit of curiosity, "How did you open that door?"
Was it because the person before didn’t close it? It seemed like a very unlikely event.
Lin Lin blinked; she found that opening the door was so smooth at the time that she didn’t remember it well.
Lin Lin mimicked the action of opening the door, simply turning the doorknob.
The mermaid was stunned for a moment.
The girl’s movement almost matched the golden-haired boy in Vivian’s mind.
Vivian’s gaze landed on the collar around Lin Lin’s neck.
He patted the top of the girl’s fluffy hair and looked up at the sky.
–
"How did you get here?" Lin Lin jumped in surprise, not expecting to see the boy sitting by her desk when she quietly returned to her room.
It was true that Lin Lin had given Caligo the key to her room, but her intention at the time was for him to do her homework when she wasn’t there.
Once she found out that Vivian was her tutor, Lin Lin stopped doing her homework.
"You didn’t come back." Caligo turned to look at her, crossing his arms, "I waited for you for a long time."
Lin Lin saw that Caligo was working on his own homework and showed a disappointed expression.
Soon, Caligo leaned closer and sniffed, catching a whiff of the scent on Lin Lin, "How do you have such a strange smell?"
Caligo was now able to skillfully take on the role of Lin Lin’s protector. Although he was a bit weak, he was sometimes even more reliable than Lin Lin’s playful nature.
"Um…" Lin Lin stepped back, hesitating whether to tell her co-workers at Demon King Castle that she went to the sanctuary, "It’s the scent from Vivian."
"No," Caligo moved closer to Lin Lin, his mismatched eyes looking at her. The black one, being a mechanical creation, seemed even colder and more serious, "It’s the smell of a Magic Potion; this is not an ordinary perfume."
Damn, Lin Lin remembered that Caligo’s skill in making Magic Potions as an assistant was very high.
Caligo’s clear judgments were almost never wrong.
"A hallucinogen?" Caligo sniffed around Lin Lin’s neck again, "How could you get such a low-quality potion?"
"Vivian." Lin Lin called out the name of the mermaid once more.
This time, the name of the mermaid appeared at just the right moment, and Caligo turned his attention to Vivian, "I told you before, it’s better to do more exercises than to hang out with that mermaid."
Yes, that is why Lin Lin tries hard to stay away from Caligo at school.
Caligo actually wants to motivate her to study together, but it’s already a lot for Lin Lin to just focus on her own learning.
Lin Lin took off her jacket and flopped down on the bed, replying casually, "I’ll think about it."
She had a very busy evening and was feeling really tired.
Caligo noticed her socks bunched up around her calves; he remembered that Lin Lin usually wore long socks, and he had never seen her long socks fall down.
Caligo looked at her with suspicion, "What did Vivian take you to do?"
"I think we went fishing," Lin Lin replied casually, flopping on the bed like a dead fish before starting to take off her sweater.
The sweater tangled with her long hair, and the dry winter air crackled with static electricity, making her urgently close her eyes.
The two of them were like conjoined twins along the way, and Lin Lin was also wearing a shirt under her sweater. Caligo did not try to avoid it, "Fishing? By the river?"
That could definitely get the socks wet; perhaps she would take them off halfway.
"Yes, yes," Lin Lin’s tone became more and more dismissive as she bent down to tidy her bed.
The hem of her shirt lifted a little because of her movement, revealing an unusual red mark.
If it were other marks, Caligo might have hesitated, but unfortunately, as someone who often used ropes to restrain struggling deep patients, Caligo was very familiar with rope marks.
The marks were not deep, but just their presence was terrifying enough to trigger a level-one alert at the Demon King Castle.
At the same time, Lin Lin, realizing something was off, tugged tightly at her clothes and turned to look at Caligo behind her.
Caligo, "Someone tied you up."
Lin Lin, "You are seeing things."
Caligo, "Is it Vivian? I will report Vivian to the Demon King."
Caligo has learned how to handle Lin Lin’s personality; she finds it hard to let innocent people take the blame.
Lin Lin honestly replied, "It was Norman, but he didn’t mean to; he loosened the rope in the middle."
Lin Lin realized that after she defended Norman, Caligo’s expression grew darker.
Lin Lin smiled awkwardly, "The situation back then was quite special."
While two equally matched novices were pushing and pulling on the bed, a knocking sound came from the tightly closed window.
Both of them turned around at the same time.
"Sorry to disturb you, but during the day, the particles of the God of Light increase, and I am really not good at finding people, so I had to bother you at night…" A man with golden long hair in a white robe pushed the window open from the outside and adjusted his tilted angel halo to wear it correctly.
Then the angel with gray wings looked at the two people wrestling on the bed.
"Hmm, it seems I did indeed disturb you," said the Fallen Angel.
