Chapter 13: Your Leader Has Rejected Me
Lin Lin had never seen the nest of the Dragon race.
In fact, her knowledge about the Safir’s race was very limited.
Whether it was stories Lin Lin read in her past life or books in this world about the Dragon race, people always made the Red Dragon the main character, with little mention of other Dragon races.
This might be because the Red Dragon is proud and aggressive, fitting the image of a villain in people’s minds.
Compared to the Red Dragon, Safir, as a Sapphire Dragon, seemed calmer and more composed, as well as knowledgeable.
Safir seemed to have a certain arrogance in believing he understood more than others; he wanted to be a winner in knowledge.
The proud Dragon race allowed Lin Lin to see their underground castle and the treasures inside it.
Safir led the way in front, while Lin Lin stood half a step behind, looking around at the huge and complicated underground castle.
Unlike the more orderly buildings of Demon King Castle, if she were left alone to explore here, she would definitely get lost.
The walls were not smooth but had a sturdy and polished stone surface that looked very artistic in the dim light.
Lin Lin did not understand art.
"Felix also lives underground," Lin Lin said.
The Dark Elf once shared a little bit of his youth with Lin Lin. In the Dark Elf’s eyes, the crowded underground buildings of the elf family were like a "hive" from which he could not escape, and he was the "food" inside the "hive."
Safir glanced back at Lin Lin.
In the dim light, the Sapphire Dragon’s bright blue eyes looked even more precious, "The homes of Dark Elves and Sapphire Dragons are similar, and sometimes there are disputes over territory… I usually do not discuss them behind their backs."
"Okay, okay!" Lin Lin promised.
Safir then turned his head again. As he looked back, the single earring hanging from his earlobe gently swayed, easily catching Lin Lin’s attention.
Today, Safir wore a light blue gem earring that was very beautiful and sparkly, fitting the Dragon race’s taste well.
Safir brought Lin Lin to a closed old book inside a transparent box.
The book opened to the sixteenth page, and the first sentence was "For the victory of everything."
Lin Lin realized this was a book about how to win in war.
"This is a unique copy," Safir mentioned, knowing that Lin Lin did not understand the book’s value.
"Oh, that’s great," Lin Lin wanted to make him happy, but she couldn’t hold back her curiosity, "But if you put it in a sealed box, how can you read it?"
Safir pointed to his temple, "It’s all stored in here. If I want to review its contents, I will recall it from my mind."
It is truly enviable.
Lin Lin sincerely believed that if she had such a memory, her school life would be quite easy.
Safir then showed Lin Lin his next exhibit, which was the crown of a former king.
This king’s life was clearly very luxurious, and the gems on the crown were dazzling even for Lin Lin, who had seen such treasures in the Demon King’s vault.
Can a human neck really support this beautiful, heavy crown?
"After I conquered his country, this crown belonged to me." Safir had no feelings about that war; he spoke about it calmly, as if telling someone else’s story.
Or perhaps, he did not have strong memories of that war and did not care about the so-called bloodshed and sacrifice; he only focused on the crown’s splendor.
Lin Lin slowly realized something.
Safir must be older than the Demon King.
So he acted as a knowledgeable teacher in front of the Demon King, which allowed him to rightly sit at the main table in the first position behind the Demon King, as he once took part in a large war.
Lin Lin always found it hard to tell the age of the immortal beings.
They all looked very young and healthy, as the immortal beings could maintain their bodies at their best for a long time.
Lin Lin was lost in thought.
Safir noticed that the woman’s eyes seemed a bit dazed.
The Lizardfolk sometimes experienced this too, as their brains couldn’t keep up and would lag when running fast.
Safir did not mean to belittle humans; he just felt that sometimes Lin Lin didn’t seem very smart, and perhaps she wasn’t considered clever among humans either.
The young dragon man reached out, ready to rest his hand on Lin Lin’s shoulder to remind her of the rudeness of her lack of focus.
Unlike the other followers of Your Majesty the Demon King and the Lizardfolk in the dragon’s lair, human women’s shoulders are very slender and weak. Even when Lin Lin wore a coat that Donna gave her, the soft fabric still outlined her thin figure.
Safir was a little unsure if he really wanted to touch her.
Safir had once taught the Demon King about the weakness of humans, but he himself didn’t have much experience interacting with them.
The Sapphire Dragon hated the feeling of the unknown.
However, before he could make a choice, Lin Lin’s previously absent gaze lit up again; she clearly remembered something very important and focused her attention back on Safir’s face.
The deep brown eyes of the woman reflected the indifferent and cold face of the young Dragon race.
She moved faster than him, standing on her tiptoes to get closer to him.
This was bad; she had clearly been in the church before, so she could smell the incense that made underground creatures uncomfortable, the type lit in the Church of the God of Light.
Safir slightly turned his head away, but that scent still lingered in the sharp senses of the Dragon race.
Then he heard the woman ask, "Did you take a written test when you became a member of the Demon King’s staff?"
A flash of white light passed through the proud Dragon race’s mind.
Safir turned his head back again.
"No matter what exam it is, I will be first."
–
Lin Lin never thought Safir would care so much about her question about the exam.
She was really just curious about what the young people from the giant tribe said about needing to pass a written test to become a servant of the Demon King.
After all, those subordinates she had seen so far did not seem very educated.
"I belonged to the Demon King Castle even before the king appeared," Safir told Lin Lin, "but I sometimes help by creating questions for newcomers."
Those super difficult questions they talked about were the ones you made.
For some reason, Lin Lin was not very surprised.
At that moment, the two of them were sitting across from each other on a comfortable leather sofa.
Donna cleverly poured tea for both of them, while Lin Lin tried hard to ignore Donna’s excited eyes, as if she were looking for a hole in her.
"The positions are based on strength. Except for that one woman, no one passed the written test," Safir took a sip of tea.
Knowing she was not the only one, Lin Lin felt a little more relaxed.
"But Allen can’t read, isn’t he being a bit exaggerated?" Lin Lin asked sincerely.
"The Orca brothers are different from other officials. Most officials fill the gaps left by the previous ones. Some may be good at making drugs, while others may be good at assassinations, and they look for candidates only after getting the position," Safir’s voice was calm, "the Orca brothers are just the opposite."
Just the opposite?
Lin Lin tilted her head, "The Orcas existed first, and then there was the gap?"
"He was here first," Safir said, "Arthur killed the last person who was second in rank."
The brother acting alone? That didn’t really fit Lin Lin’s thoughts about the two brothers.
Lin Lin wondered, "How do you know this so well? Maybe they are working together but just didn’t tell anyone."
The dragon’s gaze landed on the cup, and it lowered its head to drink. The ice-blue scales on its neck reflected colors, and one of its earrings swayed slightly.
"Because the first one to attack was me."
Calm.
Safir’s attitude was still very calm.
Lin Lin began to understand the logic of these underground creatures; they practiced the pure theory of survival of the fittest.
Lin Lin thought for a moment.
Donna poured tea for Lin Lin and said, "Miss, please don’t be nervous. The young master is also worried about you and afraid that bad people might hurt you."
The young master you speak of is indeed the worst of the bad people! You shouldn’t keep pretending to be a character from a story.
Lin Lin paused for two seconds and sincerely advised her, "If you keep going like this, you might lose not just your bonus, but your salary as well."
Donna replied earnestly, "Miss, we choose to serve the Dragon race master. We do not have a salary."
Lin Lin began to think about recommending the "Labor Protection Law" for the Lizardfolk; their admiration for the Dragon race seemed a bit too much.
"But I do have a wish," Lin Lin said as she looked at Safir, "May I see your bedroom?"
Lin Lin had heard that the Dragon race sleeps on piles of gold.
She was very curious! So curious! It was the kind of curiosity that would make her ask again, even if she was rejected the first time.
Safir thought this suggestion was quite ridiculous; he was not a lowly creature that would allow humans to visit him.
Safir got up.
Safir left.
Lin Lin, who was rejected, felt a bit sad. She looked at Donna, who was still standing beside her, and said, "Your leader turned me down."
"No," Donna helped her up, "the young master wants you to follow."
Golden waterfall.
This means that even if you look up, it’s hard to see the top of the golden mountain. With just a little movement, gold flows down from the top like a waterfall.
The amount that should be in the Demon King’s treasury has all run over to you!
Just raising my head makes my neck sore.
Safir had somehow returned to the form of the Dragon race. The huge Dragon stretched its wings, and the beautiful scales, ranging from light blue to deep blue, fit its smooth body. The Sapphire Dragon lay atop the golden mountain, its strong and flexible tail sweeping across the top layer of the mountain, causing gold bracelets or gem pendants to tumble down like sand and stones.
The giant sapphire eyes looked down at the human standing on the ground.
Just being close to this creature made people feel scared and trembling. Many humans who had tried to steal treasures from the Dragon race’s lair had died under this kind of pressure.
Lin Lin looked down at the different shiny golden treasures.
She saw many bracelets made of gold that were thicker than her own calf; this was very rare. Were these bracelets made for the giant tribe?
Lin Lin picked and chose among the mountain of gold like she was gathering seashells, placing some bracelets and gold chains on her arms.
This is what it feels like to be rich!
Just as Lin Lin was about to take off the bracelets, the dragon’s tail swept by, and the agile tip of the tail curled around her waist, lifting her as easily as picking up a small toy.
She was held up in front of the dragon, who had bony horns and light blue scales, staring at her calmly.
At that moment, Lin Lin, with golden necklaces and pearl strings wrapped around her arms, looked a bit like a clumsy and daring little thief.
It feels very strange to be stared at by a giant dragon.
Lin Lin said his name to make sure the huge creature in front of her was still her familiar friend.
"Safir."
She reached out her hand to the dragon and touched the slightly damp tip of his nose.
The soft sounds coming from the dragon’s body were like the gentle growls of a wild animal.
A cool breath came from the dragon’s nostrils in response to his name.
