Chapter 127: If I Take You Away From Here
"Do you want to know how I catch my food?"
The mermaid’s cool fingertips brushed against Lin Lin’s collarbone, and the delicate cold scent filled Lin Lin’s nose again.
The girl, with the mermaid’s arm resting on her shoulder from behind, looked up. Lin Lin gazed into the young man’s gray-purple eyes, "Starting from the neck?"
She seemed more calm than Vivian had imagined, leaving the mermaid slightly surprised.
"Because I read in a book that female mermaids first twist a human’s neck." The girl showed a very sincere and honest attitude, "Will you twist my neck?"
"Um," Vivian replied, "maybe."
In fact, the school would never allow a mermaid that had attacked humans to become a teacher for humans.
Vivian had never done such a thing, but he didn’t want to show it.
The young man pulled the chair next to Lin Lin, sat beside her, rested his chin on his hand, and looked at Lin Lin, hoping she would say something.
"Well, that’s quite clear," Lin Lin said, touching the golden collar around her neck, "at least now, you won’t easily break me."
This guy was really thinking about how feasible it would be to break her neck; what kind of dangerous and chaotic place was she living in?
Vivian looked at the other boy’s mature appearance and smiled.
He no longer asked Lin Lin about the mermaid recipes; instead, he asked a question he cared about very much, "How did you meet Norman?"
Why ask this?
Lin Lin looked at him strangely, "You have a better relationship with the Knight Commander; why not just ask him?"
"You start first," Vivian said. He didn’t drink alcohol, but he always had a peculiar tipsy feeling that made him seem friendly, and his playfulness didn’t feel out of place. "Once you’re done, I’ll tell you why I didn’t ask Norman."
Lin Lin looked at him skeptically but answered honestly, "After the angels put the collar on me, it was Norman who saved us from the angels."
Here, "we" certainly refers to Lin Lin and Caligo.
This is the most ordinary scene; Lin Lin assures Norman that every time he goes out, there is a group of people he saves and helps, and her experience is just one of the countless stories that is very unremarkable.
"There really isn’t much to hear," Vivian made an honest judgment.
Then he spoke, "I asked Norman how you met and what you are like. After all, it sounds very dangerous to be marked by an angel."
Lin Lin shrugged, showing her understanding.
"He didn’t answer," Vivian said.
Lin Lin’s eyes widened slightly.
"If he had answered honestly, I wouldn’t be very interested," Vivian said, his purple-gray hair covering one of his eyes, and the mermaid showed a slightly lonely expression, "but he didn’t answer."
"Clearly, during school, when someone did something wrong, we could create false alibis for each other; now he is starting to have secrets."
You all behaved well in class when you were at school, so what trouble did you really cause that you need proof of being somewhere else? Lin Lin thought to herself.
As she was speechless, she felt a chill on the side of her face; the mermaid’s palm was already resting there.
Vivian showed a hesitant look, questioning like a good friend, "Could it be that his taste is like yours? But you are still too young; maybe when you grow up, you’ll be attractive."
"Please do not judge my looks in front of me," Lin Lin said with a blank expression.
With Vivian rambling on, Lin Lin remembered something, "The Knight Commander said my magical energy matches his very well; maybe that’s the reason?"
The mermaid seemed to awaken as the slight tipsiness in his eyes faded a bit, "What do you mean by ‘matching very well’?"
Lin Lin replied, "It means ‘matching very well’ in a literal sense."
Vivian’s sadness instantly turned into outrage; the mermaid now looked much more vibrant than before, filled with genuine jealousy.
Vivian had a feeling of wanting his friend to be happy, but not too happy.
"After I take off your collar, you mustn’t stay here. Let me take you outside the city," Vivian suggested. "It’s best to run to a place where Norman can never find you."
Lin Lin made a face as if she were looking at trash.
"Why is that!" the mermaid exclaimed angrily. "Why can he just go out and get a golden card that is meant for him!"
Lin Lin, "Play fewer games!"
–
Lin Lin had a lot of discoveries in the afternoon. From Vivian, she learned why this school, which is in the center of the human city, still accepts so many different kinds of beings.
Because these different beings would become "unsafe" outside, it’s better to teach them some human ideas about justice while they are still young.
"Layton and I are special," the mermaid pointed to herself with a smile. "When we go out, we are monitored because we are very dangerous."
At that moment, Lin Lin asked with a subtle feeling, "What’s the frequency of your outings?"
"If we are talking about places outside San Marco City," the mermaid answered, "I have not left this city since I entered school."
Vivian did not say it directly, but Lin Lin guessed that the Red Dragon, which was more dangerous than the mermaid, would likely be watched more closely.
Layton was an egg when he entered school. The mother dragon destroyed a human village, causing human casualties, and the previous knight group killed that mother dragon. They had a hard time judging the crime of the dragon egg.
In fact, at that time, no one even knew if the dragon egg was still alive.
In the end, the dragon egg was taken to the school.
Layton’s arrival changed how humans understood the Dragon race. For example, a normal Dragon’s childhood lasts a long time, but when Layton hatched, his body seemed to instinctively know he was in a dangerous place. The Red Dragon grew faster than usual, like a human child, until he reached adolescence, when his growth gradually slowed down.
This is also why Layton looks smaller and leaner for a dragon; his tail even feels a bit heavy for him.
Lin Lin used to find Layton’s constant staring scary, but when she learned that Layton had entered school as an egg, she automatically imagined him as a weak and pitiful egg.
Suddenly, Lin Lin felt a sense of compassion for the young dragon.
By chance, Lin Lin ran into Layton, who was coming back to the dorm after a meeting that afternoon.
He looked dusty again, and it seemed he had just been in a fight with someone. No one can hurt him, but dust can stick to his beautiful face and tail.
Layton was still the same; as soon as he saw Lin Lin, his gaze fell on her.
This little dragon seemed to not understand what being subtle meant; he was originally a beast with eyes, staring at people without blinking, which was quite eerie.
Lin Lin felt that it was very normal to feel uncomfortable when Layton was staring at her in the water tank.
"Good afternoon," Lin Lin said first.
After she spoke, the boy who always seemed to have a sour face quickly responded, "Good afternoon."
It didn’t seem so hard to communicate, and Lin Lin was a little surprised.
The two of them nodded at each other and then stood in front of the dorm’s "elevator".
It is a magical teleportation circle, but Lin Lin always can’t help but call it an "elevator."
The elevator is in use, and the two of them are standing and waiting for it to come down.
Because of her recent success, Lin Lin felt much more confident and asked Layton again, "Did you fight?"
Red Dragon didn’t seem to know what to think at first, but after a moment, he seemed to come back to his senses and answered Lin Lin’s question, "No… um, I did."
Lin Lin reached into her pocket, found a handkerchief, and handed it to Layton, "There’s dust on your face, wipe it off."
The boy took the handkerchief and scrubbed his face hard, using it like a steel wool ball. When he finished, his face was bright red, and the handkerchief was very wrinkled.
Layton hesitated for a moment and did not directly return the handkerchief to Lin Lin, but instead put it in his own pocket.
Lin Lin did not mind this small matter; she was seriously thinking about whether she could take Red Dragon away.
Anyway, according to Vivian, the school now sees Layton as a danger, mainly to trap him and stop him from going out and hurting others. Taking Layton away would actually be a good thing for the school.
Layton is a dangerous Dragon race and is at a very hard age to manage. Dragons live a long time, so it would be great if we could find him a suitable teacher.
A suitable teacher.
Someone who knows a lot about the Dragon race, is strong enough to handle him, has experience teaching students, and lives a long time.
Lin Lin’s eyes lit up.
Safir.
Although bringing him a new student will probably make him very angry, given Safir’s nature of loving to teach, he would likely refuse while also being unable to look away and would then step in himself.
Hmm… If all else fails, Your Majesty the Demon King could be Layton’s teacher. The Demon King also has a long life, but I just feel that guy wouldn’t teach him properly, and it would become very troublesome.
"Layton," Lin Lin said.
The young Red Dragon had just put the handkerchief in his pocket, feeling very guilty. When he looked up, his eyes quickly darted away, "What!"
"Do you prefer the Dragon race or the Demon race?" Lin Lin decided to ask the boy for his opinion.
A sudden question appeared.
Layton was confused by the question; he looked at Lin Lin, unsure of her meaning, "Humans… Humans are quite good."
After saying this, Layton lowered his head, feeling that he had been too straightforward.
Lin Lin’s attitude was very firm, "Humans are not suitable; humans have too short a lifespan."
How could humans be teachers for the Dragon race? Even the school knew to find long-lived beings like mermaids to take care of Layton.
Layton looked down.
He was rejected!
He was rejected face-to-face without any hesitation!
Although the Red Dragon boy had no romantic experience, there were many couples at school, and there were many confession scenes as well. Layton had never seen anyone who showed so little respect to the other person.
Layton was still a baby dragon.
Even though he looked like a teenage boy, at his age in the wild, he was just a little bigger than an eagle and was a baby dragon that opened its mouth wide to call for a mother dragon to drop some food so he wouldn’t starve.
Layton felt a bit of heat in his eyes; he didn’t have many gems, and perhaps in Lin Lin’s eyes, he didn’t even meet the standards of a true Dragon race.
Then, the elevator dropped back to the first floor, making a "ding" sound, and a pale golden halo appeared under his feet.
Lin Lin was already standing on the teleportation circle.
It was so embarrassing; the Red Dragon boy didn’t want to go up to the teleportation circle with her.
Layton heard Lin Lin clap her hands; she seemed to suddenly realize that she had forgotten something important.
"If," the girl in front of him said, reaching out her hand to pull him onto the golden teleportation circle.
"If I take you away from here, would you like that?"
It was the princess who took the dragon away from the tall tower.
