Chapter 125: Goodbye
Vivian seemed really interested in the collar.
After Norman left, the mermaid inspected the collar around Lin Lin’s neck as if it were a small cake.
Lin Lin was very sure he was doing it on purpose; his cool fingertips brushed against the soft skin of her neck, watching her eyes narrow from the cold.
Lin Lin remembered clearly that she was on the mermaid’s menu, and for a moment, she even wanted Caligo to take her place, to trade a piece of fish on the cutting board.
But Lin Lin held firm to her bottom line.
After all, she was an adult. Even though Caligo seemed more reliable than her right now, Lin Lin carried the responsibility of grown-ups.
Lin Lin tried hard to make herself look like a boring dead fish, and when her expression was flat, her eyes caught sight of the red-haired boy sitting in the tank across from her, which startled her.
The Red Dragon had somehow turned back into human form, staring at her without blinking through the clear, cold ice.
Lin Lin locked eyes with him.
A translucent ice cube floated in the water tank, slowly moving away from the boy’s right eye, while his gaze remained immersed in the cold, blue water, never closing.
It felt very strange; even though the other person was completely quiet and their expression was quite plain, Lin Lin felt a chilling sensation rising from her bones.
Evil dragon.
Lin Lin vaguely recalled the knowledge she had seen before about the Dragon race when she was in Safir’s lair.
Those complicated books were just too thick; with Lin Lin’s memory, she could only remember some simple, more representative words.
The Dragon race has many different kinds, and among them, aside from the righteous metallic dragons and the rare gem dragons, the five-colored dragons are the most greedy and evil, and also the most well-known to the public.
Among the infamous five-colored dragons, the Red Dragon stands out as the best.
They are the ones who truly turned the Dragon race, which was originally considered neutral, into an embodiment of evil in people’s minds.
In children’s picture books, the Dragon race that often abducts the golden-haired princess is usually the Red Dragon.
Safir gave a strong and cold feeling, while the Red Dragon brought a dangerous unease.
At that moment, Vivian’s cool fingers brushed through Lin Lin’s long hair, touching the collar at the back of her neck.
The collar, touched by the mermaid, suddenly appeared with delicate and intricate lines.
Lin Lin instinctively moved away from the Red Dragon and leaned closer to Vivian.
The mermaid squinted slightly, her gray-purple eyes looking at the Red Dragon trapped in the tank.
Lin Lin did not know why the Red Dragon had turned into a boy, but the mermaid understood due to her own kind.
The Red Dragon Layton was trying to be friendly.
The young Dragon race boy had already noticed that girls preferred the looks of humans over those of other species; perhaps he had no conscious plan, but his body instinctively reacted in a way that benefited him.
A brilliant intuition.
No matter how many times he witnessed it, Vivian always felt that the Dragon race was a surprising group.
Vivian found it hard to imagine how exceptional Layton would grow if he were released into the wild, considering that Red Dragon had always lived in a pure school environment since childhood.
Of course, unless the school found the best way to handle it quickly, Red Dragon could not simply be released.
The childhood period of the Dragon race is also quite long, giving the old men enough time to think of a solution.
In just a brief second, many thoughts whirled in the mermaid’s mind. But those fleeting futures were not as interesting as the fun at the moment.
Vivian smiled brightly at the young Red Dragon, naturally wrapping an arm around the girl’s shoulder and gently patting her back.
To be honest, Lin Lin found it hard to notice the gentle pat on her back due to her thick coat. The reason she felt tense in front of Vivian was that when he hugged her, she uncontrollably leaned closer to the mermaid sitting in the chair.
The mermaid wore very thin clothing; her pearl-white straps revealed her pale skin. Although Lin Lin still kept some distance from the youth, she could already smell the cool floral scent on him.
It was not the sweet aroma of most flowers and fruits; this cool, subtle fragrance seemed to reach out through his skin, sending a refreshing scent into Lin Lin’s nose and body.
Hugged tightly by someone, Lin Lin’s leg brushed against the glossy, pure white hem of a dress. The hem curled up with white edges, and Lin Lin quickly stepped back two paces, keeping a greater distance from the mermaid.
Only then did Vivian focus on the girl, looking at her with confusion.
Lin Lin’s mind went blank, leaving only the words "empty" swirling like music notes above her head.
Compared to Lin Lin’s surprise, Caligo, who had been standing quietly in the corner without commenting on what had happened since entering the school, closed the book about deep-sea monsters that he had just picked up from the mermaid’s table.
The boy reached out to create space between them and looked up at the mermaid, his usual expression lacking, "Teacher Vivian, we need to take a break."
The mermaid’s gray-purple eyes settled on Caligo.
Deep-sea predators can easily pick out dishes that do not suit their taste. In Vivian’s eyes, Caligo seemed more like a piece of oily equipment compared to humans, showing no appetite at all.
Thanks to Lin Lin and their early departure, Red Dragon Layton’s punishment time was greatly reduced.
The red-haired boy walked past the water barrel, his hair wet and dripping.
The tip of his tail ignited a cluster of flames, giving off a hot warmth.
The flames burned on Red Dragon’s body without harming him or his clothes, only evaporating the moisture, and soon Layton became dry, leading the way for Lin Lin and Caligo.
The school had obviously made a lot of effort to ensure the students’ good moods, and on the surface, there were these beautiful sceneries that mimicked the habitats of various races.
However, Lin Lin’s attention was clearly not on these things; she didn’t even feel like looking around but instead held Caligo’s arm with a troubled expression, hesitating whether to share her new discovery with him.
Noticing her distraction, Caligo turned around, his mismatched eyes catching her conflicted expression.
"What’s wrong?" Caligo asked. He had never seen Lin Lin like this; she could remain calm in front of real angels, so he wondered why her emotions were so clearly stirred at this moment.
I really want to share some gossip! Lin Lin’s eyes sparkled!
But the information she just received felt a bit like a personal attack, and if it spread, it would be strange.
Her desire to share the gossip faded, and Lin Lin shook her head, "It’s nothing."
They are whispering again.
Even though he walked at the front and never looked back, Layton heard their words clearly.
The Red Dragon lifted its eyes and looked ahead.
The Dragon race has its own language, and many dragons prefer to use their own language instead of the common tongue. This comes from their pride.
Layton had to learn the common language.
Those two looked too close to each other; he couldn’t get a word in.
The Red Dragon’s tail swung side to side, showing its unhappy mood. This habit only occurs in young dragons; adult dragons can control their tails properly to appear more majestic.
Unhappy. Wants gems, wants black gems.
In school, Layton had fewer chances to get gems than his peers, and here there were no cities for him to invade and exploit. When a young dragon’s desires go unmet for a long time, it becomes irritable and angry.
His tail was swishing even more violently.
When they arrived at one of the student dorms, it was clear that Norman had called ahead, and Lin Lin and Caligo easily got their room keys from the person in charge on the first floor.
Lin Lin remembered that Sharon once told her a dark joke the school made about keeping the students’ survival rate high by putting everyone in single rooms.
Lin Lin and Caligo received the keys to adjacent rooms.
Inside the rooms, there was a luxurious device similar to an elevator created by magic circles. Lin Lin reminded Caligo to learn and observe as much as possible to help modernize the Demon King Castle in the future.
A semi-transparent teleportation circle transported them from the ground floor to the upper floor, stopping at the fifth floor, which was where Lin Lin and Caligo’s rooms were located.
Layton was on the floor above them, watching their departure with his golden beast-like eyes.
He remained silent, with the tail of the Dragon race gently swaying behind him.
Lin Lin tilted her head slightly; earlier in the afternoon, the dragon had been staring at her, making her feel a bit uneasy.
The other person probably transferred their hatred of Norman onto her, Lin Lin thought with a wry smile.
Out of politeness, Lin Lin waved goodbye to the Red Dragon boy.
The swinging tail came to a stop.
–
I am truly a clever and smart fellow!
Lin Lin felt very pleased with her choice.
Completely abandoning studious Caligo, who tried to complete all his classes, Lin Lin only looked at the courses on the schedule that interested her.
No way, does anyone really think she, a seasoned student who has been in school for many years, would attend classes obediently?
Even if the teacher dislikes her or she fails the exam, so what? The assessments in San Marco City do not affect the performance of the Demon King Castle.
Lin Lin only chose one course – "The Theory and Practice of Light-type Spells."
At the Demon King Castle, there was no one to share experiences with her, so coming here to listen to the class was nice.
Holding a notebook and a pen, Lin Lin hurried into the classroom at ten o’clock. She entered through the back door and saw Caligo, sitting straight in the middle of the first row.
Great, with this "recorder" here, I don’t have to worry about forgetting what I’ve learned!
There were not many students in the classroom, which surprised Lin Lin. She had seen many human students on the way here, but it was clear that most of the students in the classroom were from other races.
Was this class not popular among human students? It didn’t seem right, as there were many humans who believed in the God of Light. Lin Lin looked around.
A nearby penguin girl noticed Lin Lin’s gaze and tipped her tall hat to nod at her.
It was already time for class, and another student came in just on time through the back door.
Lin Lin turned and saw the familiar Red Dragon boy.
After the two locked eyes, the Red Dragon’s gaze fell upon her again.
Layton sat in the back row behind Lin Lin, making her feel like someone was staring a hole in her back.
Lin Lin shook her head helplessly.
The front door of the classroom swung open, and the teacher entered, holding books and wearing a beautiful white dress, with a fluffy shawl on her shoulders, making her look even more graceful.
The teacher with violet-gray eyes opened the book and said, "Today we will talk about some theories on the origins of light spells."
Lin Lin thought: …I should have thought of that; no wonder Norman believes he can unlock the angel’s spell.
