Chapter 122: The Knight With the "Eye of Truth"

After realizing that Royvald played sad music for the great Bishop, Lin Lin stared at him, afraid he would ask the great Bishop for money.

Luckily, Royvald did not make that request this time; his focus was on something else.

"Can’t I meet the Holy Maiden?" Royvald showed a somewhat troubled expression. "But our chief asked me to bring a gift to the Holy Maiden."

Lin Lin subtly sensed that Royvald wanted to give this gift quickly and then enjoy life.

The Moon Elf softly chanted a spell in the elven language that humans could not understand; above his right hand hovered an elven-made crown.

Like the sacred elegance of his race, the elven crown was also exquisite and beautiful, with a natural charm.

Even having seen many treasures in the lair of the Sapphire Dragon, Lin Lin was still captivated by its beauty.

"But can the Holy Maiden wear a crown made by someone else?" Lin Lin asked, feeling that in grand occasions she could only wear items from the temple, but in smaller settings, this crown seemed too formal.

"Oh," Royvald replied, "this is not meant to be worn; it is for admiration. It is too heavy and could be dangerous for a human’s neck."

The symbolic meaning is greater than the actual meaning, and Lin Lin suddenly felt that the crown was not so attractive anymore.

It was said to be a gift for the Holy Maiden, but it was mostly a gift for the temple, to express so-called blessings.

"Thank you very much for the blessings from the Moon Elf clan," the Elder began, his voice a little steadier but still rough, "We have just found the Holy Maiden, and she needs some time to rest. If you have more important matters, you can leave it to us to pass on."

Lin Lin thought Royvald wouldn’t care about this and would definitely agree to the so-called "passing on," but was surprised to see Moon Elf’s calm expression, "It’s okay. The clan leader asked me to deliver it to the Holy Maiden. I will wait until she feels better, after all, I have plenty of time to wait."

He really did have a lot of time; Lin Lin remembered how long Royvald had been sending seeds to the dwarf clan for over ten years.

Then Norman began to ask the Grand Bishop how to untie the collars around Lin Lin and their necks.

Just as Norman suspected, the sanctuary believed that the angels’ actions must have reasons. The temple did not intend to harm anything of the angels and did not plan to go against the angels’ decisions.

Norman immediately showed his discontent, and Lin Lin realized that the Knight Commander was more willful in front of the Grand Bishop; he wouldn’t behave like this outside, "Anyway, they are not believers, and we dare not oppose the angels’ orders, so we might as well do nothing, right?"

That remark was too rude; Lin Lin couldn’t help but glance at Norman.

I believe if the Grand Bishop knew that the Knight Commander once drew his sword against an angel, he would have a very expressive face.

At that moment, the young man did not have his usual smile; instead, he showed a sharpness that belonged to the Knight Commander.

"Norman," the Grand Bishop interrupted the Holy Knight Commander’s words, lowering his voice, "this is not my personal decision."

The golden-haired knight closed his lips and wisely held back his questions.

The Grand Bishop said, "This is the decision of the sanctuary as a whole."

"Oh," Norman’s thick eyelashes lowered slightly, revealing indifference, "I suppose so."

When the Knight Commander turned to face Lin Lin and the others, he wore a different, friendly expression, "Sorry, it really is a bit troublesome."

Lin Lin’s attention was focused on the Grand Bishop.

When Norman turned to face her, Your Excellency the Bishop let out a slight sigh.

It was not that Norman was being rude that upset her, but rather a light feeling of tiredness.

As an experienced worker, Lin Lin was very familiar with the frustration of things not going the way she hoped.

Although the great Bishop did not meet Lin Lin’s expectations, she did not dislike him.

Norman left with a few people, and Lin Lin walked in the last position.

"Your Excellency the Bishop," Lin Lin spoke before leaving, catching the old man’s slight attention.

The old man looked at Lin Lin, and at his age, it was quite rare for him to have such bright eyes.

"I think I have heard your voice before," Lin Lin began.

[Have we met before?] This question stayed in Lin Lin’s mind.

This is so strange; it was clear that an old man who had always stayed in the sanctuary could not have met her.

But the raspy voice of the Bishop made Lin Lin feel something familiar, though she couldn’t remember where she had heard it before.

Lin Lin paused for a few seconds and spoke half a sentence without a clear beginning or end.

The Bishop had been waiting for her to continue, but when he realized Lin Lin had finished speaking, the old man nodded slightly, "It is indeed possible; some believers record my lectures to listen to them repeatedly."

Thank you for giving me a way out. May the God of Light bless you with a speedy recovery from your cough.

Lin Lin awkwardly touched her nose, "I see now."

She followed the footsteps of the few people in front of her as they left the room.

Then he heard the old man’s raspy voice, "In fact, the temple’s understanding of new knowledge is far from as clear as that of scholars."

Lin Lin was taken aback and said, "Thank you."

–

"We can go to Soma Magic School." As soon as they left the office of Big Bishop, Norman suggested this, clearly a plan he had thought of before. "My classmate is an assistant teacher there."

"That school?" Although she had never been there, Sharon and David had mentioned this school, which housed all kinds of magical students, several times in front of Lin Lin. Lin Lin was very curious, "Can we go inside?"

Lin Lin strongly suspected that many students were dangerous creatures, so she doubted the school would be easy to enter.

"Of course we can," Norman said, lifting his chin slightly, showing a calm expression. "After all, I am the Knight Commander."

The group walked through the hall of the sanctuary, which was also not open to the public, making it especially quiet.

The way back was not the same as the way they came, and Lin Lin was a bit surprised to see the statue of the God of Light on their path.

"I thought it should be in a more honored place?" Lin Lin asked.

"This is just a small statue. The statue of the God of Light is here to watch over the direction we leave, mainly to remind people to keep their hearts pure and show them the right path." Norman put his hands together and bowed slightly to the statue. "But you probably aren’t interested in this."

Lin Lin looked up, and the statue of the God of Light still had no face, but it did not stop it from showing a look of compassion for the world.

The tall Knight Commander beside her slightly bowed, but the shorter girl stood up straight.

Lin Lin watched as the bright midday sun shone through the clear glass above the statue, casting its rays down and creating shadows on the two of them, like a hidden ribbon wrapping around them.

"Norman," Lin Lin looked up at the statue and asked the Knight Commander beside her, "What does the voice of God sound like?"

It was rare for Lin Lin to show interest in the God of Light.

"God doesn’t have a voice. His thoughts go straight into people’s minds," Norman could already answer these questions easily; he stood tall, smiled, and looked at the little girl beside him.

Norman was slightly taken aback.

When talent becomes rare enough, it becomes harder for others to understand. Since he was a child, Norman knew he was different from others.

A knight with the "Eye of Truth," which means others cannot disguise themselves in front of him. Whether it be a thief who drank a transformation potion or monsters pretending to be humans, Norman could easily tell them apart.

By seeing through deception, Norman could always see people’s true nature, and this ability made others wary of him.

The "Eye of Truth" does not need training; it is as skilled as breathing from the moment it is born.

The temple priests praised these deep blue eyes, believing they are a part of the God of Light’s power.

Norman’s eyes had never deceived him, so the scene before him made him even more confused.

The fourteen-year-old girl, who should have had a round face, had transformed into a woman in her twenties, someone he recognized very well.

The woman’s long black hair shimmered softly like black silk in the sunlight.

She stood shoulder to shoulder with him, staring a bit bored at the statue of the deity.

"Lin…" Norman called out a name, his lips moving.

"Hmm?" The woman standing next to him turned her head and met his gaze.

The girl had returned to her usual appearance, looking at him with curiosity.

Norman felt the beam of light shining through the statue and warming his cheek.

[The gods show people the right path.]

–

"Is this school really okay? Is it safe?"

Lin Lin asked Caligo to stand behind her and looked at Norman with some doubt.

The school entrance made of stone blocks looked careless, and the school gate didn’t even have a name. It seemed very suspicious.

"Safe? Of course, it is safe," the Holy Knight Commander said with a smile as he opened the gate, and the iron door creaked.

Just two steps into the school gate.

A smaller Red Dragon swooped down from the sky, its sharp claws reaching for Norman, trying to break his neck.

The Knight Commander drew his sharp sword, and flames erupted from the long sword, trapping the Red Dragon.

The Red Dragon, wrapped in flames, crashed heavily to the ground, creating a solid pit in the earth.

"Please do not bump into the big door," the Knight Commander smiled politely, "The school door needs repairs every week, and we can get a bit impatient sometimes."

Lin Lin and Caligo quietly stepped back, away from the source of danger.
