Chapter 117: He Is Not Your Lover

Felix, "It’s me."

Lin Lin originally thought Felix would not go along with her lie, especially since he seemed ready to take her away without caring about Caligo’s situation.

To her surprise, after the Moon Elf scolded Felix for being rude as her "ex-boyfriend," he gladly accepted the title and even seemed to want to emphasize this identity.

Lin Lin felt very moved.

Felix, as expected, was once called her "best colleague from Demon King Castle," even though that title now belongs to the Death Knight.

Ignoring Lin Lin’s presence, the two elves clearly had their own way of confronting each other.

Under the moonlight.

The Dark Elf blessed by darkness and the Moon Elf blessed by moonlight silently watched their opponent.

Neither of them intended to explain anything in front of Lin Lin; this was their second clash.

Last time, Felix ambushed Royvald at night, and the young Dark Elf had wanted to scratch his face, but he was not successful.

The Moon Elf, a bard by profession, was much harder to defeat than his Dark Elf counterpart.

The Moon Elf, as a High Elf, had a much longer lifespan, a richer culture, and was a completely different type from the Dark Elf, who reproduced quickly and often faced survival of the fittest.

Even the music-loving Royvald had long moments to firmly grip his longbow, ready to protect himself.

Every Dark Elf despised the High Elves’ proud gazes, as if they looked down on rats.

This time, the Moon Elf’s longbow was aimed at the dark blood relative, wearing a somewhat cold smile, "Do you think you can defeat me head-on? Former sir?"

The Moon Elf thought he was mocking his opponent. The Dark Elf felt that the Moon Elf’s words were quite to the point, and repeated the mention of a former partner.

Felix dodged away from the direction of the longbow’s aim; Royvald would only prolong the conflict. Felix knew he could not stay any longer, to avoid causing more trouble for Lin Lin.

The Knight Commander had seen him with Lin Lin before, and Felix hoped that Norman wouldn’t recall anything from that memory.

In the darkness, Felix looked at Lin Lin; the Dark Elf’s silver eyes glimmered brightly in the shadows, almost glistening with emotion. Lin Lin gently shook her head.

Felix understood that Lin Lin had made her choice; she had to go to San Marco City.

Royvald realized that the Dark Elf was not looking at him, but rather at the girl beside him, so he turned his head.

The girl looked just like she usually did, but her face showed more confusion and worry.

Just when the Moon Elf got distracted, the Dark Elf’s hidden dart shot out from his wrist, aiming straight for the Moon Elf’s heart.

Royvald quickly sidestepped.

The speed of the dart was very fast. Thanks to the Moon Elf’s quick reaction, the arrow did not pierce his heart, but it still left a mark on his chest.

When the arrow in Royvald’s hand flew toward the enemy, the Dark Elf had already vanished into the darkness.

The forest was not only the Moon Elf’s shelter; the complex terrain was also a place of freedom for the Dark Elf.

The expressionless Moon Elf shot several arrows into the deep darkness but heard no sounds. However, he did not stop. As he pulled back the bowstring to shoot at the darkness for the fourth time, a soft hand grabbed his, stopping the arrow from flying.

The girl standing beside him showed a worried expression and looked at the short arrow in his chest. "You are bleeding," she said.

She looked very worried about herself.

Royvald’s cold gaze returned to the darkness as she also stopped him from chasing the Dark Elf again.

Royvald did not reply to her.

The Moon Elf went to the lakeside.

Unlike humans, even in a strange forest, elves can travel freely to where they want to go, feeling as familiar as if they were home.

Lin Lin followed behind Royvald.

Humans cannot see well in the dark like elves do, so it was a bit difficult for her to follow. Even the ground that Royvald had walked on, which was relatively smooth, posed a risk of her tripping over dry branches and roots. Lin Lin had to slow down.

Lin Lin realized that the Moon Elf was in a bad mood.

Of course, no Moon Elf feels good when they meet a Dark Elf, but Lin Lin sensed that part of Royvald’s bad mood was because of her.

When Lin Lin reached the lakeside along the path Royvald had taken, the Moon Elf had already taken off his shirt and sat by the lake, using fire to burn the short blade in his hand.

Unlike what Lin Lin imagined, the Moon Elf’s back was not smooth, but had one or two shallow scars.

The scars looked more like old injuries, faintly visible.

Even though the Moon Elf had a slender and tall figure, it was still clear that he had strong muscles beneath his thin skin. When he raised his arm, the muscles in his back tightened, following the movement of his bones.

Lin Lin quietly sat beside him, watching the profile of the Moon Elf.

Under the moonlight, the Moon Elf’s remarkably handsome face was partly hidden in soft shadows, making him appear somewhat aloof and stern.

The short arrow was still stuck in the Moon Elf’s chest; the Dark Elf’s weapon was not an easy problem to solve.

Lin Lin watched as the Moon Elf emotionlessly inserted a sterilized blade into the flesh of his chest, blood slowly oozing out.

Lin Lin was scared and wanted to use his removed clothing to stop the bleeding, but the Moon Elf stopped him, "You need to pull out the arrow."

Lin Lin blinked slowly; although he had seen many scenes before, it was the first time he had been given such an important task.

"Hurry up," Royvald said.

Lin Lin immediately reached out to grasp the end of the short arrow; the arrow was very delicate and small, and her soft, slender fingers could hold it more precisely.

Since the arrowhead was already embedded in the Moon Elf’s flesh, the tips of Lin Lin’s fingers touched a bit of the wound that the Moon Elf had made; even though the Moon Elf’s body temperature was lower than that of humans, the flesh beneath the surface was still hot.

Lin Lin tried to pull out the short arrow tightly, but she failed the first time; the arrowhead was caught in the flesh, and she couldn’t get it out.

Her chest, as white as snow, rose and fell sharply; the elf did not sweat, but a faint pink blood oozed from the wound.

Royvald spoke softly, and the elf language flowed from his lips.

Lin Lin inherited the language talent of the Demon King, which was mostly the language used by the Dark Camp.

Interestingly, though both are elf languages, the different races of elves have evolved for a long time and do not communicate with each other; however, a small part of the Moon Elf’s language is still similar to that of the Dark Elf.

It was the part that contained curses.

Lin Lin vaguely realized that Royvald had just said a curse word.

Lin Lin looked down, pretending she did not understand Royvald’s words, her gaze focused on the short arrow, "There are purple marks on the wound."

"It’s poison," the Moon Elf replied; he already knew that every blade of the Dark Elf’s weapons was coated with venom.

Royvald reached out his hand, his fingers long and graceful, like those of a pianist.

Now, those bony hands were prying open the wound, revealing a deep red cut inside. He spoke softly, "Try again."

Lin Lin’s hand trembled a little.

Unlike what many people think, Moon Elves are not very good at caring for young ones because their babies are very rare.

In the cold Moon Elf community, a new baby is born only after a long time, and the other members do not pay much attention to the newborn.

Lin Lin heard Royvald breathe softly; it seemed he was not in the mood for any curses.

"Put in some effort," the Moon Elf lowered his head, his thick silver eyelashes drooping. His voice was softer, "Good girl."

Lin Lin pulled the short arrow out with strength, and this time there were clear signs of it loosening.

Lin Lin showed a joyful expression, the corners of her lips lifting slightly.

With a heavy forehead, the Moon Elf rested her forehead against hers. The sweet and warm feeling was like a bird resting at her brow.

Lin Lin hesitated for a moment about whether to continue.

The Moon Elf closed her eyes, "Just pull it out all at once."

Lin Lin pulled hard and took out the last arrowhead from the wound. As she pulled it out, vines grew from the inside of the Moon Elf’s chest wound, and green leaves stitched the wound closed, stopping the blood.

Lin Lin sighed with relief.

Just as she was about to throw away the short arrow in her hand, the Moon Elf reached out and held her wrist. The cool fingertips brushed against the bone of her wrist and pressed gently to confirm her delicate human bones.

"That Dark Elf is not your clingy lover," Royvald said, squeezing Lin Lin’s palm, causing the short arrow to fall to the ground. "He looks at your face before making decisions; he is your servant, like a dog."

The Moon Elf was never shy about using harsh words to mock the Dark Elf.

Royvald opened his green eyes and looked at Lin Lin.

The Moon Elf’s gaze was rarely aggressive; his expression was calm and indifferent at that moment, yet it still made Lin Lin feel pressured.

Lin Lin looked away; she had never noticed how cold the Moon Elf’s eyes, the same color as the forest, could be.

Royvald reached out and turned her chin, making her look back at him.

Lin Lin tilted her head slightly, and the jewelry on her earlobe moved along with it.

It started to sway again.

The Moon Elf’s gaze passed over the green earrings swaying from Lin Lin’s left ear.

Why can’t she ever stay quiet?

Compared to elves, humans have more complex personalities; this might be one reason why Royvald was curious about them.

She was lying to herself, Royvald thought.

Is lying a common thing among humans?

Maybe it is; Royvald had never explored anyone’s lies before.

A slight feeling of unhappiness.

Moon Elves always cast away negative emotions, which makes them drift away from purity and become unhealthy.

This subtle anger, along with the feeling of being offended, made Royvald feel strange.

"You can’t say that, Felix; he is very gentle."

Royvald heard Lin Lin speak; her voice had a hint of complaint, as if she could finally defend her hidden relative, so her attitude toward him seemed careless.

She reached out and pushed his hand away, keeping her distance from him.

The Moon Elf scoffed, not knowing whether it was about the girl’s support for the Dark Elf or about "the gentleness of the Dark Elf."

Then, Royvald saw the young girl take off the swaying green earring.

Originally, she wore the earring as a way of deceit, a compromise he made when he gave her the earring he had worn for many years.

"I went to the sanctuary mainly to take off this collar, and then I will leave."

"Believe it or not, it’s up to you," the girl said softly as she placed the earring in his palm.
