Chapter 116: It’s Me

Lin Lin did not know whether to feel regretful that there was indeed a deep hatred between the Moon Elf and Dark Elf, to the point that Royvald completely believed the Dark Elf could do anything bad.

Lin Lin even suspected that if something bad happened, it wasn’t really the Dark Elf’s fault, but as long as the Dark Elf seemed suspicious, the Moon Elf would do everything possible to blame it on the Dark Elf.

There is an obsession with blaming people rather than the situation. Of course, the opposite can happen too.

So, when Lin Lin lied about having a "Dark Elf ex-boyfriend," it was just to make Royvald stop asking questions, but the result was that Royvald thought he had the duty to protect Lin Lin from the Dark Elf’s harassment.

Lin Lin only realized this information the next day, and the reason was that Royvald gave her an earring.

Royvald, "This is a Moon Elf item; if the Dark Elf sees it, he will likely lose his mind with anger, and it should make him distance himself from you."

Yes, Felix would indeed go crazy with anger.

Lin Lin looked at the earring in Royvald’s hand, the emerald earring glimmering softly, like a gift from the forest; clearly, this earring was more like something the Moon Elf would wear regularly, not something meant to be given as a gift.

Lin Lin didn’t dare to mention that the last gift he gave had already caused a huge uproar from the Dark Elf.

To make the lie more convincing, Lin Lin forced a smile and put on the earring in front of Royvald, "Okay."

Humans and elves have different ears.

Human ears are thicker and softer, while elf ears are thinner and firmer.

Their personalities are also different. When the earrings were on Lin Lin’s ears, she couldn’t help but slightly shake her head, allowing Royvald to see her swaying earrings. In the Moon Elf tribe, even the youngest child would not move so actively; earrings on elf’s pointed ears hardly move at all.

Elves are like trees, while humans are like the wind. Bards often think of various short phrases.

This metaphor came to Royvald’s mind, and then he turned to leave.

They were close to San Marco City, and Lin Lin thought that given Felix’s character, he would follow her to the gate and see her new earrings.

Lin Lin felt complicated emotions, hoping that when she returned to the Demon King Castle, Felix would forget about this little incident. But she knew very well that Dark Elves are a very vengeful race; they naturally keep a little notebook in their minds.

Caligo was the first to notice Lin Lin’s new earrings.

"Did you buy new earrings?" Caligo thought it was a souvenir Lin Lin got from being out in the heavy snow yesterday.

"No," Lin Lin shook her head, "It was a gift from Royvald."

Caligo was silent for two seconds, showing a look of confusion.

It was quite curious to see an honest child like Caligo in such a dilemma, so Lin Lin asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Moon Elves are known to be very emotional," Caligo said, "You should stay away from Royvald."

As soon as Caligo finished his first sentence, Lin Lin knew who had told him this little rumor, and she was even more certain after hearing the second.

"What else did David say?" Lin Lin asked.

Caligo instantly looked guilty, his eyes darting as if he had been caught, "He told me to keep you away from Royvald."

"Moon Elves are certainly not overly emotional, or else their birth rate wouldn’t be so low," Lin Lin complained, "David knows he can’t always control me, so he’s tricking you on purpose."

Caligo showed a sad expression.

Lin Lin patted the boy’s shoulder and said, "Relax, we are going to trick others too."

Caligo’s expression became even more distressed, and Lin Lin thought he really shouldn’t stay in the Demon King Castle.

The Demon King Castle does not deserve such an honest child.

–

The knight’s group did not have a carriage, so Lin Lin continued to sit with David on his donkey, while the elf was skilled enough to tame a wild horse to serve him.

Royvald did not need a saddle or reins; he just needed to lower his head and say a few words to the pure white horse, and it would understand him and follow the knight’s group obediently.

Lin Lin looked on with envy. Royvald seemed like a prince from a fairy tale. If she had the chance to choose her own race, besides humans, Lin Lin would love to try being a Moon Elf.

David noticed Lin Lin staring at Royvald, so he urged the donkey to quicken its pace and stay at the front of the group.

The group moved steadily, and the knights were very quiet.

Lin Lin was hiding in her thick cloak, looking up at the sky.

The sky after the snow was very clean and bright, and Lin Lin couldn’t help but look for a little longer.

"Do you like the sky?" David asked. The wizard did not have many knightly rules, so he could chat freely. "The sky at Somar School is even more…"

Before David could finish his sentence, he realized he had said too much. Lin might not be curious about that school.

Whether at home or among the neighbors, everyone was curious about Somar Magic School, asking David over and over about the special things at the school.

When David habitually brought up the school as a topic of conversation, he suddenly realized that Lin Lin was a young witch. Although she had been separated from adults at a young age, she must have seen more magical sights.

"More what?" the small girl sitting behind him showed a curious expression.

"More beautiful," David added. "Some students at Somar School are from different races, so to mimic their original living environments, the school even set up auroras in some areas."

Lin Lin, "…Are the alumni penguins?"

David, "There is such a thing."

Lin Lin sincerely remarked, "The capital of humanity truly opens one’s eyes."

David began to wonder if she was being sarcastic.

They rested in the forest on their last night.

Lin Lin could now calmly accept this environment. Unlike Misty Forest, this time the knights could light a fire, sit nearby to warm up, and there were many fewer guards.

The light of the flames shone on their faces, and the dark creatures of the forest stayed away from the frightening fire, while humans found a sense of safety from it.

Soon they would go home, and everyone felt very relaxed and happy. Some people whispered jokes, bringing applause from a group, and the knights who took off their helmets laughed, looking no different from ordinary boys.

Lin Lin learned from the knights that they would have a week of vacation after returning.

"What about Norman?" Lin Lin asked curiously. "Does he also have a week of vacation?"

"Norman has one week to catch up on the work he left behind," David walked over. The knights, seeing the powerful wizard in charge of the finances, quickly moved closer to the other side of the campfire. David tossed a roasted sweet potato to Lin Lin and Caligo, signaling them to break it open before eating.

Lin Lin suddenly felt that her work was similar to Norman’s and looked at him with sympathy.

The Knight Commander, sitting two campfires away from Lin Lin, did not understand why she was looking at him, and he smiled gently.

Royvald was placed by David far from Lin Lin; elves do not need to eat hot food like humans, and he could even drink morning dew.

Royvald played the lute beside the campfire, surrounded by knights. When people were not distracted by the elf’s appearance, they could better appreciate his wonderful music.

As the sweet melody played, Lin Lin broke open the steaming sweet potato, and the heat and aroma spread out at the same time.

Lin Lin always attracted the attention of small magical creatures.

As the flames burned, a Flame Slime, with little red flames on its head, weaved between the knights’ long legs and came to rest at Lin Lin’s feet, wrapping around her ankle and trying to get her to notice it, hoping she would share a small piece of sweet potato.

"They always want to take food from your hands," Caligo complained, trying to share his sweet potato with the Flame Slime, but it ignored him.

"Just like you attract owls more," Lin Lin shrugged, "the world is always fair."

Caligo looked up; he saw the Knight Commander arriving here before Lin Lin did.

Norman had clearly noticed the Flame Slime lying on Lin Lin’s lap.

The last time Norman tried to touch a water slime, it left a bad memory in his mind. This time, as a fire energy user, he believed that the Flame Slime would surely feel a good connection with him.

Norman reached out his hand.

The Flame Slime’s body sank down, avoiding the Knight Commander’s touch.

Norman: …

Norman picked up the Flame Slime before it could react and then placed it on the ground outside the knight’s circle to set it free.

"It’s too dangerous," the Knight Commander said.

"Compared to that, the danger of fire is greater," Lin Lin showed a completely disagreeing expression.

Knight Commander confidently said, "Isn’t it a problem if it just runs into the knight squad on its own?"

Lin Lin could now confirm that Norman was certainly not very popular at school.

As the flames in the campfire gradually burned out and people began to drift into sleep, Lin Lin got up from where she was sitting.

Caligo looked up, his mismatched eyes turned toward her.

"I’m going to the bathroom," Lin Lin said softly.

Caligo nodded.

Lin Lin left the resting area of the knight squad.

Oh no, this is really bad.

Just as the Knight Commander reached out to touch the Flame Slime, she froze completely. Fortunately, the other party only released it without checking anything else.

Lin Lin tore the note she was holding into pieces and threw it into the bushes.

When Lin Lin had walked far enough away.

As her body was completely covered by the darkness of the forest, a tall figure appeared from the shadows, as if this dark figure was Lin Lin’s shadow.

"I regret it," In the darkness, Lin Lin couldn’t see the Dark Elf’s expression, but she could hear his loss of control in his voice, "I should have brought you back to the Demon King Castle."

Lin Lin, "Uh? You asked me to come out with the note just for this?"

"You are still wearing the Moon Elf earrings!" Felix lowered his voice, leaning down to touch the earlobe of Lin Lin’s other ear, where she was not wearing earrings. His cool fingertips gently pinched it, "What did you promise me before?"

Lin Lin: …I forgot. I completely forgot what I said before.

It wasn’t that Lin Lin intended to break her promise, but her memory was not strong enough to support every vow she made. It was her memory that affected her morals.

"This is a special situation," Lin Lin whispered, "You can’t agree with me yesterday and change your mind today."

The Dark Elf twisted the girl’s black hair around his fingers, wrapping it around his knuckles, "I can. Did you see the look on that white-skinned elf’s face? He made you wear it on purpose."

Yes, I know.

Lin Lin knew she absolutely could not calmly say this.

Suddenly, the Dark Elf wrapped his arms around Lin Lin’s waist and moved her away from the spot.

A green arrow whizzed past her ear, clearly aimed at Felix.

The moment she saw the arrow, Lin Lin pushed Felix away.

Sure enough, standing behind them was a Moon Elf holding a longbow.

Royvald looked indifferent, the moonlight shimmering on his silver hair that was similar to Felix’s, giving him a sacred and hazy beauty.

"Stay away from me!" Lin Lin shouted at the Dark Elf.

Felix’s gaze moved past the Moon Elf behind Lin Lin. The Dark Elf let out a cold snort, feeling a thrill of excitement. Felix found it hard to control himself; at that moment, he wanted to deal with the annoying white-skinned elf more than he wanted to follow Lin Lin’s orders.

Royvald expressionlessly aimed his arrow at Felix.

"You should be ashamed of your desperate clinginess," the Moon Elf said coldly.

Felix smirked, "Ha, who are you calling desperate?"

Royvald replied, "You’ve already broken up with her; you should remember who your ex is."

Huh?

Felix looked at Lin Lin.

Lin Lin silently stared at the ground.

The Dark Elf suddenly realized his identity, and he straightened his back a little more.

Felix looked back at the Moon Elf with a determined expression, "Yes, it’s me."
