Chapter 112: Crying in a Far Away Place

After confirming that Royvald was mostly attacked by Felix, Lin Lin still gave the Moon Elf a gold coin.

Lin Lin would find a way to take this gold coin from Felix’s wages; she felt calm.

And that guy seems to wander around Demon King Castle every day, looking so relaxed, yet he still has time to do these things. Lin Lin even felt a bit envious of Felix’s energy.

On workdays, Lin Lin felt that if she could just make it through to the end of her tasks, she would already be exhausted.

Even if you work four days and rest for three, work will not become pleasant; it will still be something that makes you want to run away.

Yes, run away.

After Lin Lin went out, she kept telling herself that she was forced to go out, so she should stop thinking about work.

This running away is like during the New Year when you say "I can’t accept this from my aunt" while holding out your coat pocket for her to stuff the red envelope inside.

She resisted, but not completely.

Not caring how messy the accounts will be in the last two months, Lin Lin even thought that if she could just avoid it until January, she could escape the yearly closing and postpone it for another year.

It’s not that she doesn’t want to work hard; avoiding it just seems smarter.

When Lin Lin was struggling with work, her action of giving Moon Elf gold made the onlookers gasp in surprise.

Except for Royvald, who naturally accepted the gold, everyone else looked very serious.

"Although Lin is very young, she is still a girl, so it is only a matter of time before she is attracted to a handsome trash," David said with great sorrow.

The Moon Elf pointed to himself, "Sorry, are you saying that I am trash?"

David replied straightforwardly, "Yes."

Royvald showed a faint smile, "How rude."

The Moon Elf was expressing sincere admiration for humans.

David thought that this Moon Elf was really annoying.

David would not be deceived by the Moon Elf’s good looks; he already had a Knight Commander with a righteous face that he detested very much.

Unlike David, the Knight Commander, who had just been silently criticized by David and had a perfect smile and manners, politely spoke, "May I ask if you came here just to trick us out of money?"

Lin Lin, "…He really said you want to trick us out of money in such a straightforward way."

"It’s not entirely because of that," Royvald said, "You are the knights returning to the sanctuary, right? I would like to go with you, because my destination is also the temple."

Lin Lin, "… so you admit that you were scamming money."

"Of course, may the God of Light bless you," the Knight Commander said as he reached out to Royvald, "The travel fee is one gold coin."

Royvald finally reacted, "You can’t take money from a child?"

The Moon Elf’s perfect face showed a look of sadness.

Lin Lin felt sorry for the elf and spoke up, "… I can give you my money."

David desperately covered her mouth.

–

For three whole days, David and Lin Lin kept saying that a man’s face cannot be eaten, and even though the Moon Elf was in the knight group, David worked hard to keep the two separated, fearing that Lin Lin might go astray.

No matter how Lin Lin argued, the label of being a lover of beauty was stuck on her, and it was hard to take it off in a short time.

Unlike David, Norman, upon learning that Lin Lin had a thing for looks, was most concerned about… It seemed that Lin Lin had never shown any admiration or liking for him.

His handsome face surprisingly did not meet Lin Lin’s standards of appreciation.

The Knight Commander had never faced such a major setback since birth; for several days, he styled his hair until it shone brightly, perfectly arranging each strand, hoping to receive Lin Lin’s approval of being handsome.

Lin Lin did not give Norman such approval; she only asked him seriously, when he unintentionally brushed his bangs away and exuded the charm of a mature man, "What are you doing, lost in thought?"

"It was the wind getting in my eyes," Norman returned to his usual self and slowly turned around.

David, passing by with a ledger in his arms, said, "Go cry somewhere far away; otherwise, the handsome elf will see you in this embarrassing state."

The Knight Commander stood tall and left, leaving a strong figure behind.

Royvald’s straightforward way of asking for money was implemented after entering the city.

In fact, the otherworldly melancholy of his spirit made many people who offered tips for his music performances feel burdened, afraid that giving too little would show disrespect for such a precious elf.

Royvald’s achievements in Central Park that afternoon filled a small bag with gold coins.

Royvald decided to use a quarter of it to buy drinks for everyone in the knight order.

Lin Lin understood why he made money so easily but saved none of it; although he was poor, it did not stop him from spending generously.

In such a large city, there were places especially meant for the Paladins to rest. Besides the knights on duty, the others set up a long table in the outdoor courtyard and brought in wine ordered by the Moon Elf.

Knight Commander Norman even arranged for everyone to have barbecue beef and lamb.

Unlike the white wine and beer in the knights’ hands, Caligo and Lin Lin, being minors, received half a cup of fruit wine each.

Caligo had no interest in the drink that muddled his mind, so his half cup went into Lin Lin’s glass.

The fruit wine tasted quite sweet; Lin Lin took a few big sips before realizing it had a higher alcohol content than she had imagined.

Even though the winter evening breeze was a bit chilly on her skin, the alcohol she had consumed made her body feel warm.

The cold wind mixed with the scent of alcohol had a strange, sharp smell, perhaps the smell of winter.

Compared to Lin Lin, the knights who were truly drunk seemed much more lively; some were bragging, while others found a space to start wrestling, making quite a racket.

As Lin Lin watched them having fun, she couldn’t help but feel happy.

Maybe, as the young doctor from Demon King Castle had said, she really lacked the company of her own kind.

Then, one snowflake after another flew past Lin Lin’s eyes.

Caligo spoke up before Lin Lin, "It’s snowing."

The snowflakes were heavy and thick, and soon they floated down from the sky like goose feathers.

Besides the time she fought the ice monsters, this was Lin Lin’s first big snowfall in this world.

Lin Lin lifted her face, and a cold snowflake landed on her nose, then melted into a tiny drop of water from her body warmth.

Among the knights left, only Norman did not drink alcohol.

It was a very subtle thing; even though David always complained about Norman’s laid-back attitude, Norman did not drink, and when other soldiers took turns in the forest, he would not change shifts.

He always stayed alert at all times.

Noticing the rosy blush on Lin Lin’s cheeks from the alcohol, Norman stepped over the thin layer of snow on the ground and approached Lin Lin and Caligo.

Norman draped his cloak over Lin Lin and said to Caligo, "She is drunk; you should take her home first."

The Knight Commander’s cloaks are varied, sometimes sacrificing comfort for the sake of authority; Lin Lin felt uncomfortable in the stiff, heavy cloak, and she struggled a bit, trying to escape from under the cloak.

Norman pinched the collar of the cloak; he glanced at the bandage on Caligo’s arm and then sighed softly, "Forget it, I will take her back."

Norman supported Lin Lin’s shoulders as they walked to her room.

Luckily, Lin Lin’s drinking manners were good; aside from mumbling a few things, she was fairly calm.

She must have drowsily noticed that the person supporting her was Norman, and she seriously lectured him, "That little knight you have as a cashier is too weak! He listens to David about everything, and that’s not good! You need someone tougher who can stand up to David!"

"Yes, yes, yes, that’s right," Norman bent down and nodded, "Tomorrow David will be very happy to hear your suggestion."

Then Lin Lin began judging the knight squad’s uniforms, saying the white was too bright and got dirty easily; she suggested that a deep blue would be more flattering and look sharp.

If she hadn’t been drunk, Norman wouldn’t have known about her many little opinions on the knight squad.

After a lot of effort, he helped her through the hallway and to Lin Lin’s room.

The door wasn’t locked; Norman turned the handle and opened it.

Norman took a warm towel and wiped Lin Lin’s face, urging her to at least rinse her mouth to get rid of the smell of alcohol. As she confidently stretched out her arms, signaling him to help her take off her heavy coat, he carefully unfastened the large buttons on her loose jacket one by one.

Norman had really never helped anyone else.

He comes from a good background, and being able to take care of himself well is quite rare among his kind.

The girl’s buttons were small and many; bending over to undo each one tired him out a lot. Norman hung her coat on the hanger and urged Lin Lin, who looked like she had just woken up but was still swaying, to go rest on the bed.

The obedient girl nodded eagerly and then walked in a curve towards the bed.

Norman smiled as he watched her back.

When Lin Lin reached the side of the bed, the girl in the white dress suddenly turned around. Her black hair flowed over her shoulders, and the ends lifted slightly as she turned.

"Are you leaving?" the girl asked.

Norman smiled, "Of course, because you need to sleep, and having someone else here will disturb you."

"Then when I wake up, I will be alone," the girl looked up at him, "I can sleep even in a noisy place."

There was a subtle standoff.

Norman’s blue eyes looked at the other person with a firm expression, and then he heard the crackling sound of flames. He turned to the nearby fireplace, where the fire was burning brightly.

"Alright," Norman said, "you go to bed, and I will add some coal to your fireplace, okay?"

Lin Lin nodded.
