Chapter 105: The Princess
When Lenidien asked, "What do you want to eat?" there was a moment of silence in the wooden cabin.
Caligo had a look that said, "This is normal."
The two people who were speaking, and who were the center of everyone’s attention, remained very calm.
Lin Lin said, "Vegetarian please, I have eaten too much meat lately."
Then, the angel slightly nodded in agreement and left the wooden house.
The angel flew away. What a wonderful sight!
Mage David watched the angel leave and then turned to look at the girl in the wooden house.
The girl with deep brown eyes looked at them and said, "If someone can take off this collar, we can leave safely."
She looked like she really wanted to break free from the angel’s control.
David realized he needed to take back what he said about Lin Lin; she was not as weak and pitiful as she seemed, she was even a bit bold.
Breaking the angel’s spell was hard for those who believed in the God of Light; making them resist the angel made them question their faith.
After all, the angel is a messenger of the God of Light.
But there are always exceptions; when the little girl made this request, Knight Commander Norman beside David clearly felt tempted, and he was even eager to try.
David quietly held his forehead, doubting the faith in Knight Commander Norman more than once, and wondering if the God of Light had been dozing off while blessing this Knight Commander.
Norman came to Lin Lin with a positive attitude and sat down next to her.
The blonde-haired, blue-eyed knight smiled gently and told Lin Lin not to worry; he would think of a solution.
Unlike most knights here, Norman became a knight later in life. He was originally raised as the heir of his family and trained as an outstanding mage.
Although Norman could skillfully use most light-type spells, he was not a natural light-type mage; he was a fire mage.
Fire and light-type are quite similar elements, which means they easily resonate; when Norman’s hand touched the collar that sealed Lin Lin’s powers, his hand trembled slightly.
It felt as if a tiny current ran into his fingertips, and Norman’s smile paused for a moment, unsure if the sensation he just felt was an illusion.
While his powers were suppressed, Norman’s tentative strength was also very subtle, yet the two could still resonate with each other.
Norman smiled and thought, oh no.
This girl is likely a light-type or fire-type with magical energy that matches his frequency very closely. Their connection at this level suggests that they could unleash incredible destructive power together after collaborating on the battlefield, making her a talented fighter.
"Do you want to save the world?" Norman took Lin Lin’s hand, showing the dignity and righteousness of a Holy Knight Commander. "Now is the time to use your talents. The future of the world depends on you!"
Dark Mage Caligo frowned slightly, feeling that this scene looked very familiar.
"Please don’t make promises to minors," David quickly shook off Norman’s hand. "Otherwise, I will report you to the sanctuary."
Norman, "…Tsk, the God of Light remains silent because of disobedient followers like you."
"Then, obedient follower, stay away from this lady," David said firmly, "and as a noble, don’t use such harsh words when you insult someone."
"It’s precisely because I am a noble that my insults are harsh," Norman said, moving a little away from Lin Lin as David’s magic wand pressed against his chest. "You should hear how my father slanders others every day."
Lin Lin perked up her ears, "Tell me more!"
She was always curious about gossip. Even if she didn’t understand it, any gossip sparked her desire to dig deeper.
David covered Lin Lin’s ears to block out the bad words and signaled to Norman to do what he needed to do.
Norman shrugged and winked at Lin Lin with one bright blue eye, indicating that David wouldn’t let him speak, and that he was innocent.
Norman reached out again to touch the collar around Lin Lin’s neck, this time carefully avoiding Lin Lin’s own power and trying to infuse his magic into the collar instead.
The fire element became a very pure light power. As Norman thought, the collar itself could not harm Lin Lin. The less harmful it was, the fewer restrictions there were, and since the angel’s own power was strong enough, the suppressing effect worked well.
Seeing the serious look on Norman’s face, Lin Lin felt a spark of hope, "Do you have a way?"
Perhaps this Holy Knight Commander, Norman, really had mysterious powers.
"There is no way," the mysterious Knight Commander decisively gave up. Then, the handsome young man took Lin Lin’s hands again, "Does this collar have a tracking function?"
"Maybe it does, but the tracking effect should not be good?" Lin Lin guessed, "Otherwise, the angel wouldn’t need to add chains to the collar."
The chains were meant to prevent them from escaping, but the fact that the angel could leave so calmly should be related to the Knight Commander being here.
The angel trusted the Holy Knight Commander very much, after all, Norman was an excellent talent recognized by the God of Light.
"That’s great," Norman showed a bright smile, as clear as a summer day.
"Well then, Princess, we are going to escape."
–
"Damn, we will definitely be put on the God of Light’s blacklist!" David panted, "Can’t we use a more polite way to reach that angel?"
"That angel is clearly not someone who can be swayed," Norman, who was riding at the front, smiled, "I have a feeling that this time we will surely get out of the Misty Forest safely."
"Yeah, you had that feeling a few days ago," David commented.
David didn’t understand why he ended up in such a terrible situation. If his mother knew he had deceived the angel, she would definitely be furious.
The wind blew past his ears, and the forest shrouded in thick fog remained dark and deep. Everyone followed closely behind the Knight Commander’s pace, no one dared to be careless.
David remembered that the girl once sat on the arms of an angel. He was unsure if the bumpy feeling would make her uncomfortable. The thin young man turned back and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Why are you riding a donkey?" asked the girl, holding tightly onto his waist, afraid of falling off.
David withdrew his concern for the girl, saying, "It would be impolite to ask more."
"Okay," the girl replied, "it’s quite interesting; I’ve never ridden a donkey before."
David patted the donkey’s head to make its steps steadier.
Lin Lin looked curiously at the forest covered in thick fog. Everything here looked like a place where villains would live.
The process of escaping Lenidien felt very fresh and exciting to her.
Caligo sat on horseback with another Paladin. Compared to Lin Lin, Caligo looked much calmer.
Lin Lin had ridden in Caligo’s carriage before, but she had to say that the horseback was much steadier than that carriage.
The boy’s unusual-colored eyes focused on the dense treetop, his eyes cat-like and his expression intent.
Soon, Caligo put his fingers to his mouth and whistled a lively tune. The treetop swayed, and a brown owl, the size of a house cat, emerged from the leaves and landed on Caligo’s shoulder.
It stood on the boy’s slender shoulder, then began to preen its feathers with its sharp beak, looking as if it had no intention of leaving.
Not just Lin Lin, but the other Paladins also saw the owl.
Some knights cheered for Caligo, believing he had been blessed by the animal.
In the forest, being liked by animals is very important, and this owl may lead them on a clear path.
The way the owl flew in was so cool! Lin Lin thought the scene reminded her of a magical movie she had watched as a child, where many young wizards used owls to send letters.
As a child, Lin Lin had hoped for her own owl.
Lin Lin bent her arm, looking eagerly at the owl, wishing it would land on her arm too.
But it was clear that the owl was not very interested in her; even when she deliberately bent her arm, the glossy-feathered owl was busy fluffing itself, a bird very concerned about its appearance.
Caligo noticed Lin Lin’s little movements.
He looked down, the red strands of hair dangling near his ear, and whispered something to the owl.
Lin Lin was unsure if Caligo was speaking in human language or owl language.
While she looked puzzled, Caligo tilted his chin in Lin Lin’s direction, signaling for the owl to go to her.
The fluffy owl flapped its wings and flew off Caligo’s shoulder, then gracefully landed on Lin Lin’s arm.
Perhaps considering that Lin Lin’s arm couldn’t support too much weight, the fluffy owl slightly folded its wings before landing, easing its descent.
Lin Lin supported it with one hand, allowing it to stand, while her other hand touched its warm, fluffy feathers.
When the owl cooed, its feathers trembled along with the sound.
Lin Lin couldn’t help but smile.
When she bent down to pet the owl, a dark shape suddenly appeared above her.
Not just her, everyone else held their breath and looked up at the sky.
Thick white fog hid many things, but above the clouds, an angel with wings could be faintly seen.
The reflection flew straight towards the direction they had come from, the empty wooden house.
Has Lenidien already gone back? Lin Lin felt a bit anxious; she thought Lenidien would at least take a lot of time to deal with the monster. He did that when he was in the Old Demon Realm, always putting work first, with Lin Lin and Caligo being second.
Everyone stayed quiet, and the horses stopped moving; the reflection didn’t notice the ground at all, so it wouldn’t see them.
Lin Lin looked up once more at the leaving shadow.
She suddenly felt that the angel’s figure looked slimmer than Lenidien’s.
