Chapter 101: Yes
The angel left.
Even though Lin Lin knew she couldn’t expect other creatures to follow human ideas, she still felt a little disappointed when the other person turned and walked away without saying anything.
Caligo was still in a coma, and Lin Lin needed to take care of him and make sure he took his medicine on time, or it might affect his condition.
Lin Lin let Caligo’s head rest on her lap, trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
The boy’s messy red hair was sticking to his face, damp with sweat, making him look younger.
Lin Lin reached out to brush his long hair aside and wiped the sweat from Caligo’s forehead.
There were very few usable items in the bag; it was only supposed to be a short trip, and neither Caligo nor she had prepared anything.
After a while, Caligo woke up coughing, his mismatched eyes opened. He first noticed the light yellow collar around Lin Lin’s neck, and then instinctively reached to touch his own neck, finding something similar.
Lin Lin showed a worried look.
Soon, Caligo found himself resting on Lin Lin’s legs, breathing in the soft, warm scent of a woman, and his face turned redder than when he had just coughed.
It was clear that Lin Lin was the one he needed to protect, but in the end, it was still Lin Lin who stood in front of the angel to fight for his chance.
"It’s okay, I am human, the light’s limiting power cannot hurt me," Caligo struggled to sit up, "it will only slow down the dark power’s healing ability."
Even as he said this, Caligo’s cough did not stop; it grew stronger, as if he were trying to cough out his lungs.
Lin Lin reached out to gently stroke his back, "What should we do? There are only these medicines left."
Lin Lin took out some potions from the bag, showing six in total, with all but one being the same color and only one being light blue.
The potion that Lin Lin had just given Caligo was one of those same-colored potions he had seen before.
Caligo’s gaze fell on the light blue potion, and he paused for two seconds before gently shaking his head, "This is not a big problem; my body is stronger than you think."
Caligo is telling the truth. Compared to the past years, the burden on his body today is very small. Caligo even thinks that the angel was being kind, especially since he had just cut open a huge sandworm in front of them.
Just like Lin Lin when she woke up, Caligo started to observe the cage that was trapping them, as well as the monsters passing by on the outside.
He and Lin Lin came to the same conclusion, "This cage is meant to protect us from being eaten by monsters."
The angel’s protection of humans has not changed.
However, this angel seems particularly cold and unfeeling, and his actions do not inspire any warmth.
The dark Old Demon Realm has blurred and dim lights, giving everything a hazy and magical feeling.
While Caligo continued to observe the surroundings, Lin Lin was thinking of another way.
Since they appeared before the angel, perhaps they showed too much resistance; if they had a better attitude towards the angel, it might ease the atmosphere.
After all, angels are messengers sent by the God of Light to this world, and they should not have too much malice.
After Caligo drank the potion again, he started to feel drowsy once more.
The potion was originally made to prevent the spread of his illness while he slept, but now it had a different effect. After drinking the potion, Caligo’s mind began to drift into sleep.
Lin Lin noticed him trying hard to open his eyes, yet they slowly closed against his will.
The injuries he had made him feel sleepier.
"You can lean on me," Lin Lin suggested.
After she said this, Caligo’s face turned red.
The boy’s hair was as bright red as flames, and now his face was even warmer, as if he had just come out of hot water.
"N-No, that’s okay! I can lean against the wall!" Caligo moved his tired body and dragged himself to a corner of the cage, putting a little more distance between himself and Lin Lin. His expression was so determined that it seemed he could write a report on Magic Potions in the next moment.
Lin Lin tilted her head in confusion, staring at Caligo’s face, which was somewhere between a boy and a young man. Caligo actually looked a bit like her, with a face that didn’t quite match most humans here, featuring softer brows and a quiet personality.
She moved closer to Caligo, and the closer she got to the boy, the more he seemed uncomfortable.
After Lin Lin walked up to him, Caligo’s legs, which had been stretched out freely, bent at the knees and drew back.
He was trapped by her gaze, and being looked at became a burden.
"I fed you sandworm eggs while you were unconscious," Lin Lin had hoped to see him react to the disgusting food, but instead, Caligo looked more disappointed as if it had been wasted.
Lin Lin stared at the boy’s bright red face and said, "You’re not feeling shy, are you?"
Dark Mage quietly hugged his backpack close to his chest, hiding his face from Lin Lin.
Although it was a silent protest, Lin Lin subtly received her answer.
He was feeling shy.
It was quite a novel experience; Lin Lin’s feelings were very complex. Although Caligo was Dark Mage, he was still human, and humans were part of Lin Lin’s feelings toward the opposite sex.
But Caligo looked a little too young, so Lin Lin found it hard to see him as a real man to be with.
Caligo must feel shy because he rarely spends time alone with human girls, right? Lin Lin remembered that Caligo made a deal with a demon when he was very young and then worked hard at Demon King Castle, so he probably didn’t have time to be with others.
She really took advantage of the time, Lin Lin thought objectively.
"Well," Lin Lin sat down next to Caligo, keeping some distance to not pressure him, "can you compliment me?"
Lin Lin asked.
Even though his face didn’t show from behind the backpack, Lin Lin still noticed his sudden stiff movement showed confusion.
"Because everyone at Demon King Castle is from different races," Lin Lin said, "I used to live in a world with only humans, so sometimes my thoughts get all mixed up."
"The folks at Demon King Castle may look human, but they are actually demons, dragons, and elves," Lin Lin counted on her fingers, naming them. "And since my hair is the black of a witch, I need to change my appearance to meet people."
Lin Lin smiled, "Didn’t you say we are the same, humans who made deals with demons? So can you compliment me as a companion?"
Humans are indeed social animals, and Lin Lin had long realized that she really needed the acceptance of others.
This feeling of being distant from the crowd matched with Caligo, whose youthful eyes peeked out from behind his backpack.
"Very handsome," this was Caligo’s remark about Lin Lin.
"Handsome like an adult."
What a strange compliment.
Lin Lin touched her uncontrollably raised smile.
-
When the angel returned, Caligo was deep in sleep, and Lin Lin couldn’t wake him.
Unexpectedly, this angel not only brought water but also food.
Of course, it was not ready-made food, but a leg from some creature that resembled a deer.
Lin Lin guessed this was a piece of good meat left over when angels cleaned up creatures tainted by chaos.
The angel seemed sure that if he just tossed the bloody deer leg in front of Lin Lin, she would naturally have a way to turn it into food. He threw the leg into the cage and then walked away.
Great, Lin Lin took a small fruit knife that she pulled out from her backpack and began to prepare the meat.
It was very difficult just to tear off the hard outer layer of the creature’s skin. After a while, Lin Lin finally managed to cut off a whole piece of tough skin, and she wiped her sweat with her arm.
Lin Lin thought Caligo did not seem like someone with a big appetite; this piece would be enough for both of them for a meal.
Suddenly, Lin Lin turned her head.
The tall angel had returned at some point, and she did not know how long he had been watching Lin Lin prepare the deer meat from outside the railing.
Even though the angel did not show any strong emotions, Lin Lin could still sense a bit of surprise from his silence.
Maybe before this, the angel did not think that tearing a skin would be so troublesome.
Lin Lin looked at the angel, and she had planned to praise and flatter to get close.
But she was really not good at these things, and she had developed some not-so-good habits in Demon King Castle.
Lin Lin stared into the pale golden eyes, her tone calm, "Help me."
Although her tone was calm, it sounded very much like a command.
Both sides were silent for a moment, and then the door of the cage opened.
In the open space in front of the cage, when the angel appeared, the monsters that had been wandering around smartly moved away from there.
Those monsters, although polluted by chaos, also knew who was stronger. It was similar to a drunk madman not slapping his boss.
Lin Lin sat on the ground, hugging her legs.
Beside her, an angel sitting cross-legged like her tore away the tough skin from the remaining deer leg, revealing the soft, pale pink meat inside, and the smell of blood spread through the air.
Although he was an angel, his movements always seemed very rough and violent. Lin Lin rested her chin on her knees, watching the angel.
The other person’s soft white wings were folded against his back. With three pairs of wings, each large and impressive, they took up a lot of space.
Lin Lin had seen Fallen Angel wings before, but his looked softer, not as fluffy as this one.
Lin Lin suddenly thought, could it be that angels also have straight and curly wings?
So the curly ones would look stronger and bigger?
The angel being watched by Lin Lin turned his head to meet her gaze. He was already used to human stares, whether open or sneaky; he just continued to clean the deer meat in his hands.
Lin Lin blinked.
Lin Lin said, "I can only eat cooked food."
The angel who was ready to hand the deer leg to Lin Lin fell silent for two seconds.
He raised his hand, and suddenly a ball of fire appeared from nowhere.
The fire was pure gold, and Lin Lin suspected he was using light-type magic. She now understood how it felt when others said she wasted magic.
Many things, once started, must continue to the end.
The deer hide was stripped clean, and the meat was carefully roasted over the precious light-type flames. Then the angel extended two fingers and pinched a small knife, too tiny for him, to slice the deer meat thinly to satisfy human teeth and digestion.
Lenidien had never had such trouble and effort when dealing with magical creatures.
The thin slices finally reached the human woman’s mouth, and they were actually a bit too big for her. Luckily, she did not complain; she furrowed her brow and chewed carefully.
Why is there a tasting process too?
Even the angel, who should be full of kindness towards humans, sometimes felt helpless. Lenidien thought that if Lin Lin was picky about the taste, he would leave her here and walk away.
Lin Lin said, "The meat is too tough; I can’t swallow it."
The silent blonde angel finally couldn’t help but reached out to pinch the human woman’s chin, forcing her to swallow.
The two figures were very different in size; Lenidien could easily grip her entire face with one hand.
A huge shadow covered her.
Lin Lin looked up; the blonde angel still had an expressionless face, but the six wings behind him spread out, showing emotions in the dim hell, creating a strange sense of divinity.
His golden eyes stared at her face without blinking.
Lin Lin swallowed a small piece of meat.
This is wonderful, Lin Lin thought.
The fact that he could be angered shows that he can also be tamed.
