Chapter 91 Words of Love And Love Letters [1]
Back at the City Lord’s residence.
The city lord had already been waiting at their room’s door for quite some time.
However, the city lord was standing there alone, smiling softly.
“Two ladies, going out on the night of the Blood Moon can be quite dangerous, you know.”
Seeing that the city lord had no hostility, Iris playfully responded,
“Oh, it’s fine. Taking a walk helps with sleep.”
“Did you already know this was going to happen tonight?”
“No, we had no idea. We’re just here for a little vacation.”
Iris held Naya’s hand as they walked towards the room where Flanna and Bella were staying.
“We’re leaving early tomorrow morning. Thank you for your hospitality, City Lord.”
The city lord looked at the contrasting red and white figures and sighed silently.
It seemed they had no intention of revealing the truth behind the Blood Moon Festival tonight.
The soldiers had reported that a giant red dragon appeared at the church and took away the fox, and then suddenly the Blood Moon Festival was halted.
Inside Flanna and Bella’s room.
Illya was sitting on Flanna’s lap, pinching her cheeks and giggling, while Bella quietly sat beside them, watching the two play with deep affection in her eyes.
“Mama, Mother, you’re back!”
“Mmm.”
Illya jumped off Flanna’s lap and rushed into Naya’s arms.
“Where did you go?”
Naya picked Illya up and rubbed her cheek against hers.
“We went out for a little breeze.”
“A breeze?”
“Yes, a Red Dragon brand motorcycle.”
“What’s a motorcycle?”
Illya’s little eyes were filled with big confusion. Mama always used words that she couldn’t quite understand.
“It’s a fast-moving vehicle that lets you feel the wind,” Naya explained with a soft smile.
Then, turning to the two maids, one dressed in purple and the other in blue, she added,
“Thank you for your hard work, Flanna, Bella. Get some rest. We’ll be leaving tomorrow.”
Leaving this place of trouble.
“Understood, Your Majesty, Your Highness the Queen, and Princess. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Back in the adjacent room.
Naya gently laid Illya on the bed. Since Illya was with them, she and Iris couldn’t talk about Lina.
Because they’d spent so much time out that evening, and Naya wasn’t in the mood to tell stories, Illya quietly hugged her and drifted off to sleep.
Naya closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep, but she couldn’t stop thinking about Lina.
She gently removed Illya’s tiny hand from her waist and slightly arched her upper body.
“Iris, I want to go out for a bit.”
“Why? Where are you going?”
“It’s too hot under the covers. I want to go sit in the outer room.”
Iris got out of bed, creating space for Naya to crawl out from the inner side.
As Naya’s upper body emerged from the bed, Iris suddenly hugged her tightly.
“What are you doing…”
“Where to? I’ll take you.”
Naya tried pushing Iris away by her shoulders.
“Let me down. I can walk by myself.”
“Not in a good mood?”
Hearing Iris’s gentle voice, Naya stopped struggling and instead buried her head in Iris’s embrace.
“Mmm… Let’s go to the outer room. I don’t want to disturb Illya.”
And so, Iris carried Naya in a princess hold to the outer room.
The city lord had given them plenty of courtesy by offering such a luxurious room, reminiscent of ancient Huaxia houses, with an inner and outer room separated by a door and curtain.
The outer room was where they ate and received guests.
Iris found a chair, sat down, and leaned close to the window, gazing at the still crimson moon outside.
Naya was filled with emotion.
“Actually, I think when Linnevia first questioned loudly why I only came to see her now, that was her true feeling.”
“What kind of true feeling?”
Iris could get jealous, but she knew when to hold back.
For instance, when Naya was lost and confused, she wouldn’t add to her worries. Still, she didn’t hide her own curiosity and gently asked Naya.
“It’s, how should I put it? A feeling of regret. It’s like she didn’t want to become the way she did. If I had been there, she wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
“Do you regret it?”
“Regret? No, not to that extent.”
Naya leaned against Iris’s shoulder and looked out the window.
“It’s just… this place isn’t a game world where the hero always wins in the end and returns gloriously. Here, the world is filled with harsh reality.”
“Could this world just be a dream?”
“That’s exactly why it’s filled with harsh reality. Think about it. If I hadn’t lost my memory back then, if I’d taken advantage of your relaxed vigilance and secretly returned home. If four years ago, when Lina was still fine, I’d stopped everything from happening—then Lina wouldn’t have become a dream demon. But then, Illya wouldn’t exist either.”
Now that Naya had become a member of the Dragon Clan, her combat power was certainly stronger than when she was human. The reason Lina lost to another dream demon was simply that a priest walking alone couldn’t fight, no matter how strong their healing power was.
“Mmm.”
Iris didn’t comment, only nodded slightly. She wasn’t going to ask what Naya would have chosen in such a hypothetical situation—it would only lead to unnecessary frustration.
“Knowing all this only makes me feel I should cherish what I have even more. Saintess Linnevia was right, the regrets of the past can’t be undone. All I can do is remember the past and ensure those regrets don’t repeat in the future.”
Unexpectedly, Linnevia was so good at speaking wisdom, though she herself was perhaps the least capable of letting go of the past.
Naya gazed at the bright moon.
Her thoughts drifted back to the past once again.
Let’s just say all three of them are dead.
As the cool breeze brushed against her warm face, Naya let out a long sigh.
“Let’s go back to bed, Iris.”
“Alright.”
They closed the window.
Returning to the inner room, they carefully slipped back under the covers, with Naya taking the innermost spot. She pulled the blanket over herself and closed her eyes, trying to sleep.
[Side Quest 2 Activated: Obtain the ‘World-Class’ Earth Vein Artifact. Reward: Advancement Fragment x1.]
[You scared me! System, you startled me out of nowhere.]
[Keep up the good work, Host, and aim to become the strongest in the world.]
[What’s an Advancement Fragment? Will it let me directly advance to the Silver-level Dragon Clan?]
[Yes, Host.]
[It takes one fragment to go from Bronze to Silver, and two fragments to go from Silver to Gold.]
[Finally, a useful reward. But, with my current ability as a transcendent Hero, needing a world-class Earth Vein artifact just to advance to Silver-level Dragon seems a bit… stingy.]
[It’s not stingy at all, considering you’ll be skipping the long learning process of dragon magic. Plus, if you manage to become an emperor-level dragon and combine it with your transcendent Hero abilities, you might even surpass Iris.]
[Sigh… Fine, fine.]
But surpassing Iris would finally allow her to solidify her status in the family.
Not a bad thing.
[Host, after meeting Lina, will you still love Iris as you always have?]
[I don’t want to repeat myself too much.]
The system must have heard their conversation while they were chatting earlier.
[What I mean is, if you continue to follow Iris, you’ll find that many people in this world die chasing the dream of slaying dragons. Now that you’ve made this decision, work on toughening your heart and witnessing everything alongside Iris to the very end.]
[What do you mean by ‘the end’?]
[I mean the end of this world. I’m looking forward to it, Host.]
[System! Be clearer with your words!]
[Goodnight, Host.]
[System, system? Answer me! System, don’t play dumb! Riddler, get out of Gotham!]
So frustrating.
Now she was even more awake.
Was the system implying that the world would be destroyed if Iris wasn’t killed?
Forget it, forget it.
Guessing would lead nowhere.
Naya hugged Illya tightly and tried to empty her mind.
However, tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
