Chapter 39
Chapter 39: Tonight, There Will Be No Sleep
“What do you mean? ‘The Hero’s Battle with the Dragon’. They actually show such a program in the dragon clan’s palace?”
“It’s not in the palace, it’s at another arena on the island. You’ll see when the time comes.”
Naya grew even more curious.
What kind of drama would it be? Would it be the hero battling the dragon she imagined, or a version adapted from the dragon’s perspective?
Before Naya could think further, Iris had already pulled her into the secret realm.
The moment they stepped into the deep passage, it felt like entering a vacuum.
Naiya lost her sense of gravity and direction, until the colorful particles of light around her shifted and finally disappeared from view.
Their vision returned to normal.
They found themselves in a dense forest where the darkness was so thick that one couldn’t see their hand in front of their face. Towering trees loomed high, blocking out the moonlight.
Naiya felt a bit panicked because she no longer felt the warmth of Iris’s hand.
“Iris, where are you?”
Suddenly, a tight softness pressed against her from behind.
“Iris!”
Naiya quickly grasped the hands in front of her.
“It’s me.”
She let out a sigh of relief.
Although she knew it was Iris, she still feared there was a one in a million chance it could be someone else.
She initially wanted to push the hands away but instead relaxed her resistance.
“Iris, it’s too dark here. Can we go home?”
“We’re nearly two thousand meters from our castle. You promised me that once you learned to transform, you’d show me your dragon form.”
“You… You’re still thinking about that?”
“Why? I gave you a lot of advantages, don’t you want to return the favor?”
“No, Iris, it’s just… It’s too unsettling here.”
Naya bit her lower lip.
In the darkness, she couldn’t see anything, making the feeling of Iris’s palm especially vivid.
In addition to Iris’s magnetically charming voice behind her, various birds and beasts chirped in the night. This was truly a forest, even in the secret realm, the environment was just like the real world.
“Don’t worry, you can transform into your true form and emit light. Your dragon scales will be like the moon.”
“Right.”
She was too anxious.
In a moment, she forgot she could cast light spells.
Naya raised her hand, silently reciting the incantation in her mind.
A warm yellow light illuminated her palm.
“Call!”
However, Iris gently blew it out from behind her, and Naya couldn’t help but exclaim.
“What are you doing?!”
“I want to see your dragon form.”
“Iris, I know what you’re trying to do, but this is… This is the wilderness…”
“Do you think that castle can hold us both? It’s a rare chance to go out with you, and we’ve come to such an open area.”
“But…”
“Don’t worry. At this distance, no noise will reach the castle or the outside world, no one will know if you and I have a little fun here.”
Naya leaned against Iris’s shoulder.
She hesitated.
Why did she feel so excited? Why did she have the urge to try it?
Iris’s hands pressed down on her chest, and the sound of their heavy breathing echoed oddly in the primitive forest at night.
“Shall we transform together on three?”
“Um…”
Strangely compelled, she nodded.
“Three…”
“Two…”
“One…”
White and red light illuminated the surroundings thoroughly.
As two large wyverns appeared in the forest, their expansive bodies crushed the trees, and the thunderous noise shattered the night’s silence.
The birds that had been peacefully sleeping on the branches were startled awake, and the overwhelming light sent other animals fleeing in panic.
These creatures, upon seeing such gigantic dragons, were paralyzed with fear and all fled in the opposite direction from Naya and Iris.
Naya watched the little animals sprint away and sighed helplessly.
“I told you not to do it here.”
“Now they’ve all left, so no one can see us.”
The dazzling light from their transformation lasted only a moment.
Then the glow from Naya and Iris dimmed to the brightness of a nightstand lamp.
But that was enough for the two dragons to see each other clearly.
Looking at Iris’s sleek crimson scales, Naiya thought it was very cool, completely devoid of any worldly desire.
“Iris, maybe we should just forget it…”
“No, how can we just let it go? Didn’t you say you wanted to experience dragon fall? I’m going to let you have a taste of a true dragon fall right now.”
Although Naya couldn’t see Iris’s expression, she could tell from her tone that Iris was teasing her.
…….
I am a little peacock.
I was sleeping soundly in my nest up in a tree.
But suddenly, the blinding light and the rumbling noise woke me up.
When I opened my eyes, it felt as though the world had flipped upside down.
Startled, I spread my wings to stabilize my body in the air, wanting to see which jerk had destroyed my home.
What the heck!
What is that? A giant dragon?
I felt as small as a speck of dust in front of them.
I froze, paralyzed by the appearance of this enormous creature.
Just as I regained my senses and prepared to flee, I realized the two dragons seemed to be fighting?
They say when dragons fight, common birds suffer.
But I couldn’t suppress my curiosity, I had to see what it looked like when dragons fought.
I hid behind a fallen tree.
After just a glance, I was utterly disappointed. What the heck!
I thought it would be a magical showdown, but it turned out to be the most primitive form of hand-to-hand combat.
Moreover, it seemed that the red dragon had the upper hand, she was pinning the silver dragon down, biting her neck, spreading her massive wings to overpower the silver dragon’s silvery feathers, leaving her unable to resist.
Their tails were locked in a fierce struggle.
Like two serpents fighting.
But it was clear that from the beginning to the end, the red dragon was overwhelmingly beating the silver dragon.
Wait, what are they doing?
Is the red dragon going to eat the silver dragon?
The little peacock felt a chill run down her spine.
No more, no more! This is too terrifying!
The glimmering tongue of the red dragon made the little peacock feel phantom pains.
If such a sharp thing pierced me, I would surely die a horrible death.
Poor silver dragon lady, being a fellow female egg-laying creature, the little peacock couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for the silver giant dragon.
But the conflict between dragons was beyond her ability to intervene.
The little peacock shook her head and turned to fly away.
She looked at the bright moon in the sky, as if a meteor fell onto the moon’s surface, creating one crater after another.
She kept flying higher into the sky until she passed through the barrier of the heavens.
When she turned around, she found that the forest had completely vanished, replaced by the Dragon Clan’s palace?
The palace stood on a solitary island, surrounded by vast oceans.
At this moment, the high-hanging jade disc in the sky was stained blood red. The tsunami surged, and the waves crashed against the shimmering moonlight as they struck the shore, thundering loudly. The sound of a mermaid’s sorrowful song drifted in the air, as if foretelling that tonight would be a sleepless night.
