Chapter 59: Blazing Flame Spear, Charge!
The 30-years-old giant python was about twelve meters long.
After Iris’s dragon subordinates killed it and brought it back, following Iris’s instructions, they thoughtfully stripped off its flesh, leaving only the skeleton behind.
The bones were placed in a courtyard within Iris’s territory. In the dark, the superior-grade magic crystals emitted a faint purple glow, illuminating the entire area.
Next to the python’s skeleton was a large vat of lava. To prevent the lava from solidifying, dragon soldiers were constantly using magic to keep it heated.
As Naya and Iris approached the massive skeleton, they could feel the intense heat radiating from the lava.
These soldiers really worked hard.
“You may leave.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The two dragon soldiers maintaining the heat by the lava, after receiving permission from Iris, let out a sigh of relief and quickly left, as if they were finally released from prison and didn’t want to stay any longer.
The lava wouldn’t cool to room temperature right away, remaining in liquid form long enough for Naya to complete the process of repairing the Holy Spear.
After placing the bag of red dragon scales down, Naya looked around cautiously, checking to see if anyone was watching.
Iris laughed.
“Relax, no one would dare spy on my territory. If you’ve got some tricks, go ahead and show them.”
“Alright.”
No more words were needed.
“Rise again! My Holy Spear!”
Nayia spread her arms wide and closed her eyes. Golden streams of light began to emerge from her body, then gathered in mid-air, forming a golden blueprint. The blueprint was empty—just a shape, nothing more.
Fragments of the damaged Holy Spear also emerged from within her and began to gather along the blueprint.
What took shape was a golden rod. Other than being straight, it didn’t look much different from an ordinary staff.
[System, use the Holy Spear repair blueprint.]
[Used.]
Suddenly, the blueprint expanded and swallowed the golden spear whole.
Next came the lava—the blueprint gulped it all down in one go.
Then the superior-grade magic crystals, which it crunched up like fried chicken pieces, shoving them all into its form.
The python’s skeleton took almost a full minute to be completely absorbed by the blueprint, which seemed insatiable.
Finally, it devoured Iris’s red dragon scales without any hesitation.
“Ugh…”
[System, what’s with the burp?]
[That’s not a burp. It’s an alert that the repair conditions have been met.]
After the “burp,” the blueprint exploded in a blinding golden light that shot upwards like fireworks, illuminating the sky above the Heavenly Dragon Palace.
Far away, across the sea, other Heroes lifted their heads. Leo, the Hero, voiced his curiosity.
“Which cultivator fellow is undergoing tribulation here?”
As the light faded, what appeared in place of the blueprint was… an umbrella?
The umbrella was completely red, matching the color of Iris’s dragon scales exactly. It was almost as if the umbrella had been painted with her scales.
Watching it slowly descend, Naya reached out and caught the crimson shade.
With a simple push, a bright rose bloomed at the top of the umbrella handle.
It really was an umbrella—one that could be opened and closed.
[System, explain to me why my Holy Spear turned into an umbrella?]
[It’s not an umbrella. It’s your new spear. The original Holy Spear has been repaired as—Blazing Flame Spear, Credo.]
[Where’s my Holy Spear, Lancer?]
[Sorry, the original Holy Spear, Lancer, was destroyed. All that remained was the original spear base, which I’ve repaired into Credo, a world-class spear just like Lancer. Don’t be discouraged. While Lancer was an unparalleled weapon for offense, Credo excels in defense. It’s both a spear and a shield, capable of protecting what you hold dear.]
Naya looked at the red umbrella. The material of the umbrella wasn’t actual fabric—it didn’t seem like cloth at all.
She tugged on it and poked at the surface.
It was extremely hard, much like the texture of Iris’s red dragon scales.
The umbrella’s open form could indeed serve as a shield. This must be the “ultimate defense” the system mentioned.
She retracted the umbrella.
The ribs of the umbrella extended outward, forming eight sharp blades around its perimeter. With a simple thought, the handle elongated, transforming into the length of a spear or halberd.
Naya gripped the handle, casually swinging it around a few times.
[It’s not bad.]
It felt somewhat like her old Holy Spear, Lancer, but this one was top-heavy. Unlike Lancer, which had balanced weight on both ends, this new weapon would take some getting used to.
[Protect, huh? System, I accept you now.]
Naya shortened the handle, turning the weapon back into its umbrella form.
Yes, protection was what she needed now. She no longer needed to fight. What mattered was protecting her family, protecting Iris, Illya, and the two unborn dragon cubs inside her.
“Iris, do you think it looks good?”
“It looks beautiful.”
Iris had a smile on her face. She could tell Naya was pleased with it, and as long as Naya liked it, anything would look beautiful.
The blades on the umbrella’s ribs retracted, making the weapon resemble a lance. Aside from its sharp tip, it was safe to touch.
Naya wanted to be able to take it out and look at it casually, without worrying about it accidentally hurting anyone.
After all…
“It’s your color.”
Naya smiled warmly as she held the spear out to Iris.
“Want to try it? See how it feels?”
Iris took the lance and gave it a few simple swings.
“It’s not too heavy.”
“It feels just right to me.”
“It’s quite different from your original Holy Spear, isn’t it?”
“More than different—it’s a world apart.”
Naya clasped her hands behind her back, watching Iris handle the lance. She suddenly thought that this weapon suited Iris more.
However, only she could truly wield it.
The moment she acquired the Holy Spear, Naya’s consciousness had automatically learned how to use it. The spear could change forms to adapt to different situations, capable of both attack and defense.
Her original Holy Spear, Lancer, had a unique trait—it was difficult to heal any wound it inflicted, with nearly all its attributes focused on offense.
This new Holy Spear, however, had its defense maxed out.
“What do you think of its energy?”
Iris, unable to figure out the spear’s power, returned it to Naya with a shake of her head.
“No idea.”
Naya chuckled smugly.
[See, System? I told you she wouldn’t figure it out.]
[Let’s hope so.]
The important thing wasn’t whether Iris could understand the Holy Spear now, but rather that Naya was falling deeper into her love for Iris every day.
Eventually, she wouldn’t be able to resist, and despite the consequences, she would reveal everything to Iris, even if it meant betraying the System.
The System observed Naya and the Holy Spear from within her consciousness, feeling a small sense of relief.
Go ahead, Naya. Protect what you wish to protect.
Become the Hero for what you valued and guard what you cherish most.
