Chapter 35: The Mysterious Addition Of Another Sister
Luckily, Illya misunderstood the meaning of “tofu” in this context. If she hadn’t, Naya, who already found the term a bit awkward, would have had a hard time coming up with a reasonable excuse.
“Yes, exactly. It’s a type of tofu filled with magic. Eating it helps create the magic needed to make dragon babies.”
Naya tried hard to maintain a serious expression as she agreed with Ilya’s interpretation. Ilya nodded in realization.
“Oh, I see! The Dragon King wasn’t lying to me!”
“What else did the Dragon King tell you, Ilya?”
“He didn’t say much more. He just explained the steps. Then he asked me how old I was. I told him I’m six.”
“You’re almost six.”
“I think I’m six. The Dragon King was surprised and said, ‘Six?! While that’s quite young, it’s not impossible. As long as you become the Dragon King, you can awaken your full power and receive the Dragon King’s title. This will allow you to control your body’s growth and size freely.'”
“Huh?”
“Yes, he also said that only the Dragon King has the ability to bestow these powers on female dragons.”
Wait, shouldn’t the focus here be the fact that one can control their body’s growth at will?
That means Iris could actually transform into a Loli form if she wanted to?
Now Naya was curious about seeing Iris in Loli form.
“Mama, are you even listening?”
“Yes, yes, I’m listening. So, Illya, you’re not the Dragon King yet, which means you can’t create dragon babies.”
“I have an idea!”
“Oh? What is it?”
“We can ask Mother to make me the Dragon King for just one day. Then I could be the Dragon King!”
“The Dragon King title isn’t something you can just pass around like that. Did the Dragon King tell you anything else?”
Illya lowered her head, somewhat deflated.
“No, that’s about it. I woke up after that. The Dragon King took so long telling his story that I got sleepy, so I only remember bits and pieces.”
How does one get sleepy in a dream?
Alright, it looks like Naya had managed to get all the information from Illya. Now it was time for a serious talk.
“Illya, listen carefully. You and I cannot make dragon babies together.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m your Mother’s wife, not your wife. And besides, you’re our daughter. You call me ‘Mama’, so if you had a dragon baby with me, what would the baby call me?”
Naya’s question seemed to fry Illya’s mental circuits.
She stared blankly at Naya for a while before coming up with an answer.
“Um… nanny?”
Nanny, my foot! Time to get discharged from the hospital!’
Naya gritted her teeth and glared at Illya.
“In any case, this is something that goes against basic morals. If something like that really happened, the family hierarchy would be a complete mess, do you understand? Besides, making babies is something that only people who truly love each other can do.”
“But…”
“Listen to me. I know what you’re thinking, but the love you’re feeling is not the same kind of love I’m talking about. The kind of love I’m talking about is romantic love, like in the stories I told you—Cinderella and the prince, Sleeping Beauty and the prince, or the Little Mermaid and her prince. This kind of love happens between two people who aren’t related by blood. The love you feel for family is called familial love. You can only have romantic love with someone who isn’t your blood relative, understand?”
Though Naya’s explanation was a bit too absolute, she had to make things clear for Illya, who was still young and learning.
“Oh…”
“So, do you remember why you wanted to marry the princess before? Can you tell me?”
“Because the princess wanted freedom, and I wanted to give it to her.”
“Not every princess is stuck in a tower like the ones in fairy tales. Illya, there are still a lot of things you don’t understand…”
Naya’s voice faltered, a lump rising in her throat.
Illya had spent most of her life confined in the castle, cut off from the outside world. That was why she didn’t grasp basic concepts of ethics and relationships.
Although, Iris would occasionally take them out, those outings were rare, and Illya was usually too absorbed in her fun to retain any lessons about the world.
All the irritation Naya had been feeling evaporated in an instant.
She gently stroked Illya’s head.
“Illya, what do you think of the relationship between me and your Mother? Do you think we love each other?”
“I think you love Mother more. Mother is a big meanie. She used to ignore you and make you sad on purpose.”
“It’s different now, though.”
“Yeah, it’s a little different. Mother has started competing with me for your attention. Maybe she finally realized how great you are and started liking you.”
Naya smiled softly. So this child had noticed that Iris didn’t always treat them sincerely in the past.
“The love between me and your mother is called romantic love. You should remember that. I love your mother, and I love only her. I want to be married to her, and only her. That’s what romantic love is. Do you understand?”
Illya shook her head.
“But in the history books, Dragon Kings always have multiple wives. Isn’t marriage something you can just do with anyone?”
Looks like she’s learning a bit too much from history books. Maybe letting Illya read them unsupervised wasn’t the best idea.
“That’s why those marriages aren’t based on love. Just because two people get married doesn’t mean they’re in love. And people in love don’t always get married. Illya, if you ever meet someone you like one day, whether it’s a princess or another dragon, I hope you’ll treat her with your whole heart and love her the way I love your Mother, and the way your Mother loves me—with only each other in your hearts.”
Illya’s pink eyes darted back and forth as if she were trying hard to understand Naya’s words.
“It’s okay if you don’t fully understand now. Just remember what I said.”
“Okay!”
“Alright then, let’s get back to studying.”
“Mama, can I touch your belly?”
“Why?”
“I want to listen to my little sister.”
“You think you can hear her?”
“Let me try! I think I can. The Dragon King also taught me some new things last night!”
“Wait, what else did the Dragon King teach you?”
“I don’t know! It just pops into my head sometimes. Come on, let me listen!”
“Alright…”
Naya let Illya down from her lap.
Illya leaned against Naya’s belly, pressing her ear gently against it through her clothes.
“Wow, it’s so magical.”
“What do you hear?”
“I can feel it. There’s a life inside, and there’s a strange flow of magic.”
“A flow of magic? Is your sister talking? Can you understand her?”
“No, I can’t understand her.”
Naya stroked Illya’s soft pink hair, with her adorable twin pigtails tied on either side of her head.
Well, of course. The baby was still in an embryonic stage and hadn’t even formed basic organs yet, let alone communicate anything.
“Wait… something’s weird.”
“What is it?”
Illya suddenly moved away from Naya’s waist and, without warning, lifted Naya’s skirt and ducked underneath.
“Illya!”
Given her earlier strange comments, Naya was momentarily startled, fearing that her daughter might do something inappropriate.
Illya pressed her warm face against Naya’s belly and quickly announced her findings.
“I think… there’s more than one sister in there.”
What?!
Could it be twins?
Congratulations, Iris! You’ve hit the jackpot with one shot!
