Chapter 20: Iris’s Weakness
Eyes brimming with tears, Naya finally listened to the system’s advice.
But, learning from past mistakes, the system no longer bluntly told her
things like “Just kill Iris now and you won’t have so many worries”. The host of a submissive nature needed to be corrected gradually—it couldn’t be rushed.
After all, forcing a mosquito coil too hard would cause it to snap.
[So, host, you need to work harder too!]
[Yes, work harder. I need to become stronger as well, or how else can I protect them? Tonight, I must complete the task and obtain the blueprint to repair the Holy Spear.]
Naya lowered her head and softly asked Illya, “Is there a place for me in the travel plans?”
“Of course there is! How could there not be, Mama? If you’re not going, I’m not going!”
“That’s good.”
As long as it wasn’t some secret trip kept from her, as long as she could stay by Illya’s side, she didn’t mind going anywhere.
The uneventful day disappeared in the blink of an eye.
The twilight sun set behind the western mountains, and a bright moon hung high in the night sky.
After telling Illya a bedtime story, Naya returned to her room.
She closed the door and leaned against it, gazing at the bed where a red-haired dragon woman lay, clad in thin sleepwear.
She pondered.
Had they been doing it a bit too frequent lately?
Since regaining her memories, Iris’s desires had been overwhelming.
Thankfully, due to her dragon body’s resistance to nature’s elements, Iris had a high tolerance for the grass element.
Everything happens for a reason.
First, it was certain Iris loved her.
To Iris, Naya probably hadn’t shown enough love in return, so Iris wanted to conquer her through physical closeness.
Iris’s frequent advances were, in dragon terms of survival of the fittest, a way to completely dominate her.
To make Naya forever the submissive one.
As people commonly say… Some metaphor about soft fabric and balls of fluff.
Naya couldn’t let herself become Iris’s submissive.
She was a modern, independent woman, and relationships needed reciprocity. Where’s the give and take?
“Iris, why didn’t you discuss the travel plans with me? Why did you have to talk to Illya in secret?”
First things first, she definitely couldn’t beat Iris in a fight.
So, her only choice was to gain a psychological advantage.
She couldn’t let Iris get close before taking the upper hand. If Iris touched her, she’d be hypnotized again.
Naya crossed her arms, turned her head in a prideful manner, and conveyed through her expression and body language:
Something this important, and you only talked about it with Illya? Clearly, you don’t love me enough. You’re keeping everything from me!
“I told you about it yesterday, didn’t I? I asked if you wanted to go out and play, and you said no. I’d been planning this for a while, but I didn’t expect you to refuse. So I’ve been thinking of other ways to persuade you. It wasn’t about keeping it a secret with Illya. I just hadn’t come up with a better way to convince you.”
The way to persuade her was through Illya, of course.
Iris knew that Illya could never keep any secrets from Naya.
As long as the request came from Illya, Naya could never refuse.
So, Iris had purposely mentioned it to Illya, predicting she would spill the beans.
Iris watched Naya, whose silver-white tail-tip was shaking repeatedly. She was clearly deep in thought.
What was her wife planning today?
Yesterday morning…
Right.
At the time, when Iris asked, Naya thought she was testing her. She had said no to show she wanted to stay by Iris’s side.
But now, it seemed she had been overthinking it.
“You’re not planning a trip to have fun, are you? You just want to take Illya out to train, right? You want to turn her into a capable princess early and send her on adventures. Of course, I wouldn’t agree to that.”
Naya gave herself an excuse to retreat.
“But we can’t keep Illya sheltered forever, can we? As a dragon, isn’t it a shame if she can’t touch the skies freely?”
Oh no.
With that shift in the conversation, it now seemed like she was being unreasonable.
She had planned to show some authority as the head of the household to intimidate Iris, but now it felt like she was in the wrong.
Naya bit her lip, racking her brain for a response to Iris’s words.
Suddenly, a fragrant breeze brushed past her.
The red-haired dragon woman appeared before her, graceful like a soaring dragon, like a swift rainbow. Her translucent attire barely hid the beauty underneath, much like the subtle emotions rising in the dimly lit bedroom.
Naya couldn’t help but gulp.
“I know you’re concerned about Illya, afraid she’ll get hurt during the journey. But with you, and me, we’ll protect her together. There’s nothing in this world we can’t overcome, nothing that can threaten us.”
“Where do you get that confidence?”
“Do you want me to remind you how I defeated you? Show you my true form?”
“Maybe not…”
Iris’s true form was… quite daunting.
Naya feared losing all courage to fight back if she saw it again.
Before she realized it, she was pulled into Iris’s embrace. Iris pressed her forehead to Naya’s, their breath mingling.
“Your wife is no pushover. She’s the Dragon King—Someone, people have been trying to kill for years but remains unscathed. Let me tell you a secret, my power exceeds the rules of this world. As long as I don’t deliberately seek death, I’m invincible.”
“Huh?”
Stronger than the system?
The system didn’t feel like responding.
Isn’t that obvious? If the system were stronger than the Dragon King, it would have maxed out your buffs and let you defeat her in one punch. No need for all these tedious tasks!
But saying that would crush the host’s spirit.
The system chose to play dead for now.
“But, there’s one way to pierce through my defenses.”
“What way?”
Shocking!
Was Iris about to reveal her weakness?
Could Naya use this weakness to turn the tables in bed?
Naya looked at Iris’s lips expectantly.
“That’s if something ever happened to you—If we were separated by life and death. My grief would break me, and dying would be the least of my worries. To me, you are my everything. I couldn’t go on living if you were gone.”
“Iris…”
Naya burst into tears.
That was exactly what got to her.
She loved Iris’s exaggerated and cheesy lines.
She wrapped her arms around Iriss neck, utterly moved.
Good news: she found out Iris’s weakness.
Bad news: Iris’s weakness was also her own. Killing Iris would mean killing herself too.
Feeling Naya’s softening resistance, Iris gently laid her down on the bed, resting her head on the pillows.
Iris, towering above her, gazed down at Naya with a look full of tender affection. Her deep red eyes burned with a hunter’s desire.
It was clear who the hunter and prey were now.
[Host!!!]
Even so, Naya willingly surrendered to her queen, instinctively ignoring the system’s message.
[System, be quiet. Let her love me.]
At that moment, her violet eyes gazed into Iris’s, brimming with deep affection, like water reflecting the autumn sky.
