Chapter 14: Making Dumplings
Bella, following Naya’s request, bought all the necessary ingredients and started preparing the dumpling filling.
But there was no way Naya could handle everything on her own.
So, she called Flanna, who had been busy in the back garden, and together with Bella, the three of them began making dumplings.
In the kitchen, the dumpling filling was busy being prepared in full swing.
This harmonious scene was a bit much for the system to bear.
Has Naya become addicted to playing house? The system needed to constantly remind Naya about the main mission.
[Host, that’s enough, isn’t it? Do you really want to make a perfect batch of dumplings for Iris?]
[Of course! Dragons have big appetites, so to avoid Iris disliking the food, I need to make a variety of fillings.]
[Host, if I may speak bluntly. Iris might not actually love you. Think about it, she’s such a cold queen. In the past, she would go to work without waiting for Illya to wake up, but now, she deliberately stays for breakfast with you before leaving. The turning point was last night when you confessed to regaining your memory. She’s still suspicious of you. That’s why she insists on waiting for Illya to wake up. Once Illya is up, the maids follow you around, watching you, and only then does Iris feel comfortable going to work. This is a sign that she doesn’t trust you.]
[You’re right, I think so too. Iris’s change was too sudden. She’s still doubting me.]
[Exactly! So, if she truly loved you, how could she bear to doubt you?]
Great, the host hasn’t fallen into a love-struck mindset.
She’s still suspicious of Iris.
“Flanna, go chop the pork into small pieces. Bella, light the fire and prepare to cook the filling.”
Naya smiled as she gave orders to the two maids while busy peeling shrimps.
[So, I need to prove my sincerity even more, so she truly believes I won’t betray her.]
Host, you’re impossible to reason with!
The system was almost faint with frustration at Naya. But unless Naya died, it couldn’t switch hosts.
For now, all it could do now was brace itself and try to persuade Naya to turn back from her reckless ways.
[Host, you are a hero! You are Iris’s sworn enemy!]
[Why? In “The Hero Battles the Dragon”, the dragon did kidnap the princess, and yes, it was once a demon king, so it is guilty. But what did Iris do wrong? Why do humans have to see her as a mortal enemy?
[Have you never heard the saying, “Those not of our kind are sure to have different hearts”? To humans, a dragon of such immense power is a threat. If the dragon race isn’t suppressed, one day, the savage dragon race will rule the world, trampling humans and enslaving all living beings.]
[But I’m part of the dragon race now.]
[You’ve accepted that so quickly? Don’t you want to turn back into a human?]
Naya quickly finished peeling the shrimp, then grabbed a knife to start chopping it into pieces.
[Actually, not really. Sure, I do feel more of a connection to humans, but I have a daughter now, and I’ve built a home here with the dragons. Even if Iris doesn’t love me that much, I know my daughter loves me, and I love her too. To me, being part of the dragon race or not isn’t that important anymore. What matters most is that I want to see Illya grow up safely and happily.]
[Host, are you serious?]
[I’m really sorry, system. I don’t want to become a God anymore. I just want to watch Illya grow up and protect her growth.]
In the past, as a hero, Naya had no family, no children, and even the person that she loved was within her adventuring party.
So, back then, she loved adventuring.
The three of them had nothing. As transmigrators, they had no family and no ties, only their heroic dream of moving forward.
Yes, the three of them were all transmigrators.
And they all had systems.
Leo’s original surname was Li, Lina’s original surname was Lin, and of course, her original surname was Mo. To blend into this new world, they changed their names to make them sound more fitting for a fantasy world.
[But if you don’t kill Iris, she’ll be killed by someone else in the future. There are more transmigrators than just you three.]
“Hiss!”
With a clang, the knife slipped from Naya’s hand.
Because of the system’s words, she lost focus for a moment and accidentally cut her hand.
Hearing the sound of the kitchen knife falling to the floor, Bella and Flanna hurriedly looked in Naya’s direction.
“Miss Naya, are you alright?”
Naya smiled bitterly and shook her head.
“It’s okay, just a little scrape.”
The cut on her finger quickly healed back to normal.
Being human? Forget it. Being a dragon is so much better!
Look at this amazing self-healing ability! Human bodies are so weak. Come, join the glorious evolution and become a dragon!
[That’s why humans should see dragons as enemies. Dragons, humans, or any other race, all fear other beings stronger than themselves.]
Naya held her hand and lowered her head.
Her bangs fell across her forehead, casting a shadow over her eyebrows.
[She… if she must die, so be it, as long as Illya… can be safe…]
[Illya will become the next Dragon Queen.]
[……]
[So, only if you become a God can you protect everything you hold dear.]
[System, if you keep talking nonsense, I’ll mute you.]
[Host, please reconsider.]
Stupid system, so annoying!
Let’s mute it for a day and deal with it later.
But Naya’s mood was still affected by the system’s words, and her knife work slowed down.
After almost the entire morning, they finally finished making the filling and dumpling wrappers. Now, it was time to wrap the dumplings.
The three dragon ladies sat around the table in the kitchen, and the maids carefully watched Naya’s dumpling-wrapping technique.
“Bella, Flanna, watch carefully. This is how you make a dumpling. Mix the filling, put it in, fold the wrapper like this. Now, I’ll show you four ways to fold dumplings. Use whichever method you like.”
Teaching people in another world how to make dumplings—it was such a unique experience.
“Got it.”
The maids focused intently on Naya’s hand movements and then tried to imitate her, though they often tore the dumpling wrappers.
Naya patiently corrected their technique.
“No need to compete with my speed. It’s your first time. Take your time. We’re aiming for quality, not speed.”
“Yes, Miss Naya.”
Watching the two maids become more skilled at wrapping dumplings, Naya smiled with satisfaction.
[System, is this what you call the savage dragon race?]
Everyone was so cute.
Bella, Flanna, even the third maid currently teaching Illya magic—they had all once been brave dragon warriors or mages. But now, they could sit down and calmly make dumplings with her.
Racial prejudice was such a terrifying thing.
Naya looked at the three baskets full of dumplings. A little more wrapping, about ten minutes’ worth, and they’d be done.
“I really hope Iris will like them.”
Naya had prepared ten different fillings, just in case Iris didn’t like the vegetarian ones.
Flanna laughed softly.
“Don’t worry, Miss Naya. Her Majesty the Queen always finishes all the food you make.”
Bella nodded in agreement beside her.
“Yes, when we bring the insulated container back, the plates are always so clean they don’t even need washing.”
Clean enough that they don’t need washing?
Imagining Iris sticking out her long tongue to lick the plates clean brought an unexpected sense of humor.
Naya chuckled softly.
Xeroth Ernassal (Blackhole32)
So… the reason why humans fight dragons… is because of racism and nothing about dragons being a threat to all beings. Alright, bravo system, I already hated you before but still have some open mindedness about “What ifs”. Now though? I have a legitimate reason to cheer for it to be deleted now.
