Chapter 12: System, Hurry Up And Think Of Another Solution!
It makes sense, although I, as the former hero, have become a dragon girl, it’s an undeniable fact that not long ago, I wanted to kill Iris.
How could Iris not be on guard?
Perhaps, falling in love with Iris was one of Iris’s safeguards.
Secondly, the physical changes to her body might also be Iris’s second safeguard.
[That’s exactly right, host, keep thinking that way!]
The system, which had been lurking in the background, suddenly saw hope of completing the mission again after sensing Naya’s thoughts.
The name Naya was also given to her by Iris.
When Naya lost her memories as a hero, Iris bestowed that name upon her.
“What are you daydreaming about? It’s your turn to change clothes.”
“Oh.”
Despite having many thoughts running through her mind, Naya’s expression made her look like a girl in love.
This led Iris to believe that Naya was savoring that kiss from earlier.
The two of them acted like an old married couple, yet also like strangers in a flash marriage. They get along with each other both familiarly and awkwardly in their interactions.
After they dressed and tidied themselves up in the room.
Iris embraced Naya from behind once again, gently asking:
“Tell me, what are your plans for the future now that you’ve regained your memory? You mentioned last night that you wanted to go out and have some fun, is that true?”
Naya opened her mouth, about to say yes.
But then she reconsidered.
Iris was asking about her plans for the future, was she testing her?
If she said yes, would it imply that she wanted to escape?
After a long pause, to be safe, Naya shook her head.
“You really don’t want to go out?”
“No.”
“I thought that after regaining your memory, you might get tired of life here. Naya, I’ve never meant to imprison you. You and Illya are both very important to me. This place is my secret base, and no one can easily find it. As long as you’re here, you’ll be safe.”
Iris, in an effort to gain Naya’s trust, held her tightly and continued to express her own difficulties.
“Do you know? Even in the royal palace, there are those among my kind who plot to seize power. Staying with me in the palace is actually dangerous. Among dragons, strength determines everything. Whoever is the strongest is the king. If one day I have to leave to handle important matters, I won’t be able to protect you both.”
“I understand.”
“I’m glad you understand, Naya. We’re still the same as always, right?”
Was there some deeper meaning behind that?
“Mmm.”
To avoid arousing suspicion, Naya nodded immediately.
“In the future, I plan to spend more time with you both. I’ll stay with you until Illya wakes up, and we can have breakfast together before I leave. I realize I’ve been a bit of a negligent Mother. Illya wakes up every day only to find I’m already gone. At the very least, I should say goodbye to the family I love most before I leave.”
“Iris…”
Naya was deeply touched.
She turned around and hugged Iris face to face.
At that moment, she let go of her grudge against Iris for doubting her.
In truth, Iris also had her own difficulties. She suspected Naya because she was worried about Illya, wasn’t she?
Faced with Naya, who had regained her memory and power, Iris was likely capable of protecting herself.
But Illya was still a child. Even though she had Iris’s bloodline, she had not awakened her powers yet.
Considering all the worst-case scenarios for their child and doing everything possible to prevent them, that’s what a mother should do.
It seemed I was being too petty before.
With that thought, Naya realized it was understandable for Iris to be suspicious.
So, she decided not to be angry with Iris anymore.
Iris gently rubbed her forehead against Naya’s.
“But that’s because, Naya, you’ve done such a great job. I’ve always felt at ease. I’ve always believed that with Illya in your care, she’d be well taken care of, so I neglected my own responsibilities. Now I understand that it’s not because you’re capable that I should just wash my hands of it. If this continues, Illya might not even recognize me as her mother.”
“Mmm, that’s possible. You should pay more attention to Illya.”
Iris smiled slightly, softly stroking Naya’s long silver hair.
“You’ve worked hard, Naya. You’ve always been a good mother and a good wife.”
Naya, leaning into Elise’s shoulder, couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear.
Praise me more.
She thought about the five years she’d spent raising a child. It had been so exhausting, but Iris’s heartfelt compliments made her feel like all her efforts had been recognized.
A warm sense of joy and satisfaction filled her heart.
Isn’t this what family is all about?
I understand your exhaustion from working long hours, and you understand the hardship of raising a family.
The two of them stayed close together until it was time for Illya to wake up. Naya went to wake Illya up.
When Illya came out and saw her Mother sitting in the dining room waiting for her, she called out in surprise.
“Mother!”
Mother hadn’t gone to work yet!
“Good morning, Illya.”
“Don’t you have to attend the morning court session today, Mother?”
Illya ran over to Iris in small steps and hugged Iris’s waist tightly.
“Mmm, I wanted to have breakfast with Illya.”
“Yay!”
Illya excitedly climbed onto a nearby chair, while Naya came over to tie a scarf around her.
A child’s happiness is indeed simple and pure.
Iris and Naya exchanged a smile.
A beautiful day began with the three of them sharing breakfast together.
It wasn’t until Naya reluctantly saw Iris off that this dreamlike morning came to an end.
Today, it was the other maids’ turn to teach Illya some magic theory.
Naya herself didn’t know dragon magic, so she couldn’t teach Illya.
After leaving Illya with the maids, Naya sat in her room alone, lost in thought.
That’s right.
The system has been muted for so long, it’s about time to let it speak again, right?
I just hope the system doesn’t start spouting nonsense again.
[Hey, hey, hey? System, are you there?]
The system was furious.
It had watched in frustration as hope turned to despair.
Naya had been on the right track, her mind building up hostility toward Iris. But then, Iris’s sweet-talking had swayed her again, leaving the system powerless to intervene in its vast, empty consciousness.
Even though the system’s words lacked emotional fluctuation, Naya could still sense its anger. The system wasn’t even using respectful language with her anymore.
[I’m sorry, system, but I don’t want to destroy my family. I feel that… Iris, Illya, and I are a family. I’ve thought it over. I’ve changed so much now, and if I went back to see Lina, she probably wouldn’t accept me like this. I have become a dragon, and I have become a woman. I even had the Dragon Queen’s child. Going back to see her would just be unfair to her. Let me remain in her memory.]
[But what if I could turn you back into a human?]
[But if that happans, wouldn’t the child in my body…]
Would the baby be harmed by the transformation?
[If you don’t want to lose the baby, you can wait until after it’s born to change back. Dragons typically lay eggs within about three months. Once you’ve laid the egg, you won’t need to worry about it anymore.]
[Oh, that’s right!]
Finally, the system provided a sensible solution.
As long as she didn’t lose the baby, everything would be fine.
Shino
I feel disgusted by the system
Alice Slaughterdoll
