Chapter 1: Lancers Have Been Unlucky Since Ancient Times
The black spear pierced through the chest of the red-haired dragon woman.
After the deafening explosion, the ensuing tremor swept dust and smoke across the land.
The spear shot back through the smoke.
Monet, known as humanity’s strongest hero, caught the returning spear and quietly gazed at the billowing smoke.
To think that in just a few moves, I’ve rendered the evil Dragon powerless. As expected, I am indeed the strongest Hero.
However, before Monet could celebrate for long.
“Roar!!!”
A sharp dragon’s roar tore through the twilight sky, and the thick smoke was dispersed by the massive flapping of crimson wings.
Appearing before Monet was a standard Western dragon. Its deep crimson scales shimmered under the light of the setting sun, and its flame-like fiery eyes locked onto Monet, burning with endless fury.
The red dragon opened its mouth wide, revealing its sharp fangs.
Monet gripped his spear tightly, preparing to launch another attack on the evil dragon.
“Heh, so there’s a second phase? The hero versus the dragon really doesn’t deceive. Facing the second phase, I must give it my all!”
The dragon’s claw was as large as Monet, the small human, and without giving him more time to quip, the dragon raised its claw and struck directly.
Monet swiftly dodged the dragon’s strike, using a flowing movement, then lifted his spear and thrust it toward the dragon’s arm.
[Annihilation!]
A voice that seemed to pierce his soul echoed in his mind, and Monet saw a strange red light emanating from the dragon’s body.
As soon as his spear touched that light, it disintegrated into powder.
What… What kind of power is this!
It can even destroy a world-class artifact!
A flicker of panic flashed through Monet’s eyes. Without the weapon’s support, his combat strength would be severely diminished, and it would be impossible to continue fighting this evil dragon.
He hastily shouted.
“Quick! Leo, the teleportation array!”
He had allies for support. If he couldn’t win, could he at least not flee?
This ambush on the Dragon King was just to test its strength; he never intended to slay the Dragon King in one go.
Now that they’d forced the Dragon King into its second life, Monet felt they’d already made a huge gain.
But after his shout, the teleportation array didn’t light up beneath his feet.
Nothing happened.
Monet turned his head in terror.
Where’s my teammate? Where did my teammate go?
“Boom!”
In just a brief moment of distraction, the dragon’s claw seized the opportunity and pinned Monet to the ground.
With an ordinary person’s physique, being struck by a dragon’s claw would have crushed them into a pulp, but Monet wasn’t an ordinary person. He struggled against the dragon’s claw, trying to flip himself over.
The red dragon lowered its head, its reptilian eyes radiating contempt for the weak human beneath it.
The dragon didn’t need to speak to communicate, using its mind to project its voice, which reverberated inside Monet’s mind.
“Foolish human, you truly are selfish. Your comrade has already abandoned you and fled.”
What!
His chest was being pressed so tightly that Monet could barely breathe.
He couldn’t even utter a question.
What in the world… is happening?
Leo, like him, was also a traveler from another world.
He too had dreamed of being a Hero fighting dragons.
Monet trusted this companion immensely. Leo, as the team’s solid support and backline, had fought alongside him through many battles. Monet had always confidently entrusted his back to Leo, who had saved him from death’s door multiple times.
This plan to ambush the Dragon King was even proposed by Leo.
But why, why had Leo fled alone?
Why did Leo abandon him?
Countless questions flooded Monet’s mind.
Could it be that as the protagonist, I’m going to die here?
[Detected that the host is in a life-threatening situation…]
[All energy will be activated, preparing for escape…]
The cold mechanical voice once again echoed in Monet’s mind, and the heart that had been hanging in suspense finally settled down.
The system is still reliable, after all.
I said it, didn’t I? I had a system as soon as I traveled here. The beginner’s gift pack even gave me the world-class artifact, the Holy Spear “Lancer”.
This is the protagonist template. How could I die so easily?
[Suppression… suppressed, unable to escape, unable to teleport, unable to counter…]
The red dragon, sensing the massive energy surging from beneath its palm, couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. It still has some fight left in it.
She observed her palm with interest. She wanted to see just how much this tiny human could resist.
[Analyzing escape route… 90%… 95%… 97%… 99%…]
Hey, hey, hey!
Why is there a progress bar?
Monet struggled under the dragon’s claw. System, if you don’t hurry and find a solution, I’m really going to be squashed into a pulp!
[Analysis failed. No successful escape route found.]
No way!
Am I really going to die?
System, think of something, please! Summon Leo, that bastard, back here or something—he’s the one with the teleportation magic!
[Host is suppressed. Only the world-class artifact “Mercury” can lift the control.]
What now!
Can’t you give me another gift pack right now and let me draw one out?
[Initiating self-destruct sequence…]
What? Self-destruct?
System, what kind of nonsense is this?
Is the Dragon King really that powerful? Even the system is helpless?
[Host, this is the system’s final wave. Please, survive…]
Energy began surging from the void, and Monet felt his body being filled with unfamiliar power. It was as though he had been reborn.
The dragon’s claw was slowly being pushed back.
But the red dragon clearly had no intention of letting him go. After a slight loosening of its claw, it pressed down even harder.
“Boom!!!”
Yet the small human beneath, like a spring that had been compressed to its limit, suddenly exploded.
A powerful shockwave blasted the dragon’s claw away, causing the dragon to lose control of its body and stumble backward.
Dazzling white light erupted from the human’s body, and the red dragon watched in shock as it unfolded before her, like the Big Bang pouring out its energy.
An ultra-world-class artifact, [System], had fallen before her, releasing enough light to turn dusk into noon.
The system had expended all its energy to save Monet, allowing him to evolve.
When the light finally faded, the red dragon squinted and looked toward the source.
There, lying on the ground, was a dragon woman.
Her silver hair fanned out like a lotus, her body bare, her ample chest impossible to ignore. A white dragon tail rested against her back, and the horns on her head were identical to those of a dragon.
The red dragon cautiously nudged the dragon woman lying on the ground.
White flesh, wobbling slightly.
It seemed that it was this power that had pushed her dragon claw away.
After confirming that the silver dragon woman posed no threat, the red dragon reverted to her human form, returning to the first phase.
She was a red-haired dragon woman, standing about 1.7 meters tall, dressed in a dark red gothic dress. The damage on her chest that was originally pierced by the holy spear had been healed, and her arms were clad in clean, elegant black silk gloves.
She crouched down beside the silver dragon woman, admiring the flawless, jewel-like body. Every inch of her skin glistened like jade.
What exactly happened? This human had actually evolved into a dragon.
First, capture her. Then, study this slowly.
