Chapter 485
by 林方方Chapter 485 Comrade Angel!
Su Rui was actually startled by Hathaway’s voice. He genuinely couldn’t remember ever having met this woman.
With a figure like that, there was no way he could have forgotten her if they’d met even once.
“I’m Tris’s sister. I saw your photo at his place.” Hathaway seemed a little worked up. “You’re the man behind the New York Fire Blue, aren’t you?”
Tris was last year’s best rookie in the American professional men’s basketball league, and currently the top candidate for “Most Valuable Player” in the league. He’d been in the league for less than two years and had already shown the potential of a superstar.
He had only been picked 28th in the draft,a practically insignificant position, but the Fire Blue had shown remarkable vision in selecting this unknown kid. Within just one year,he was already shining brilliantly.
Thinking back to when Su Rui had first joined Bikang,it was precisely because he’d been watching Tris’s game footage during work hours that he’d gotten into a conflict with Yin Xiumei, leaving her half-dead from a stun baton and utterly humiliated.
The Fire Blue’s recent record had also been excellent. In the years since the acquisition was completed, the team had gradually grown from a bottom-dweller into a top-five presence in the league, even making it to the Eastern Conference Finals last year. Yet the man behind the Fire Blue had never once shown his face, and fans had speculated endlessly without ever reaching any conclusion.
Who would have thought that bastard Tris had hung Su Rui’s photo on his wall!
The truth was,Su Rui hadn’t bought this NBA team because he had nothing better to do and wanted to play around with basketball. Although he loved the sport, the main reason he bought the team was to launder… money!
After all,the Temple of the Sun wasn’t exactly a force operating in the light. Although over the years it had been steadily moving into legitimate industries through other channels, there were still certain fast-money operations that simply had to be done. It was tradition, just like Li Yang — wanting to go completely clean required not only facing enormous resistance, but also a very long stretch of time.
This NBA team had provided Su Rui with an excellent platform for money laundering. Investment in sports was growing larger across the board, and over the past two years,as the team’s performance improved, the initial investment had already yielded quite handsome returns. Su Rui was already itching to think about whether he should start looking at acquiring a football club in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
“Tris is Black, and you’re his sister — how come your skin is so fair?” Su Rui didn’t answer Hathaway directly, but the question was as good as confirming his identity.
Hearing Su Rui say this, excitement welled up in Hathaway’s eyes. “My father is Black and my mother is white,so the two of us ended up with quite different complexions.”
Then she rushed forward and pulled Su Rui into a tight embrace.
Hathaway’s figure was outrageously spectacular, almost to the point of being exaggerated. Being held tightly by a woman like that,Su Rui felt an intense pressure against his chest — a sensation so overwhelming it nearly left him breathless.
Was it blissful to be hugged like this by a beautiful woman?
No,right now Su Rui was completely at a loss.
He had no capacity to enjoy that extreme sensation of pressure at all. His whole body stiffened as he looked over at Tang Ni Landor beside them, not knowing what to do with himself.
Landor also had no idea why Hathaway had suddenly done this. But seeing Su Rui’s flustered expression, and thinking back to how he’d been lecturing others with such authority just moments ago,she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
When a goddess smiles like that,it’s like a spring breeze brushing across your face, filling the entire room with the warmth of spring.
Hathaway held Su Rui tightly, her eyes brimming with emotion. “You didn’t just save me — you saved Tris too. Without you,he never would have achieved what he has today. You are the savior of our entire family!”
“That sounds pretty reasonable.” Su Rui nodded, then shamelessly opened his arms and pulled that spectacular figure into his embrace. “Then I’ll just enjoy this hug with a clear conscience.”
Come to think of it,he really did count as a benefactor to Hathaway’s family. This wasn’t just about saving this woman today — it was also because more than four years ago he had saved Tris, steering that street-ball-playing troublemaker back onto the right path. Otherwise, the kid might have spent the rest of his life in prison.
“Tris is my only family. I am so,so grateful for everything you’ve done. I would give my life to repay you if I had to.”
Hathaway released Su Rui,her eyes red. That alone showed just how much she loved her only younger brother. Back then, she had spent countless words and endless effort trying to get him back on the right track, all to no avail. Now that she had finally met her great benefactor, her gratitude came straight from the heart.
“It’s really nothing. I’m just the kind of person who’s pretty good at saving people on the side.” Su Rui rubbed his nose and said shamelessly.
As he said this, though,he instinctively glanced down at Hathaway’s chest. Those two peaks were truly something to behold. Even though she was already twenty or thirty centimeters away from him, their chests still seemed to be touching… No wonder a lecherous creep like Qi Zhanji had gotten ideas. Anyone would have a hard time handling this.
Since it was already quite late,Su Rui didn’t chat with them much longer. He watched as the two of them boarded the RV and left under the escort of their bodyguards.
Sitting in the back seat,Hathaway’s beautiful eyes held a look of disbelief. The woman still hadn’t quite come back to her senses. Her hands pressed to her chest, she kept repeating over and over: “Landor,do you think he was sent by God to save us?”
“You’ve asked me that at least fifty times tonight already.” At that,Landor’s eyes lit up with a smile, and she said softly: “If you insist on saying he was sent by God,I won’t argue — because he’s an angel.”
If those words of Landor’s ever got out, they would cause an enormous stir. This darling of the world’s film industry had,in order to avoid rumors, never once commented on any man in any setting. Yet this time,in describing Su Rui,she had used a word that held the highest place in her heart — angel.
Though one had to wonder whether Su Rui,upon hearing himself described that way, would break out in goosebumps.
At this moment, said angel had already returned to the Lin family villa.
Ever since that night when she had revealed her feelings under Qin Yueran’s offensive,Lin Aoxue seemed to feel a slight flutter of unease every time she faced Su Rui. Although she concealed it well, that faint ripple in her heart was very much real.
At this point Lin Aoxue had already washed up and was sitting quietly on the edge of her bed reading a book.
Anyone who caught a glimpse of the title of that thick book in her hands, however, would have been utterly stunned.
Why would a top-tier Chinese beauty of cold elegance and distinguished status be reading a book like this?
Because the book was called — “Chronicles of the Western Dark World.”
Although she already knew Su Rui’s identity,Lin Aoxue was still deeply fascinated by the stories surrounding him. After all,she had truly given her heart to him,and naturally wanted to understand every detail of his life.
This book wasn’t available for purchase in the country. Lin Aoxue had gone through all manner of channels to obtain it from the West. While much of its content was embellished, the overall picture wasn’t far from the truth.
Although the Western dark world had existed for hundreds of years,it had always remained relatively undisturbed — until the appearance of the sun god Apollo, who brought a few ripples to that stagnant pool.
Apollo’s rise had only happened in recent years, yet the author had devoted a great deal of space to describing his various exploits, seemingly a devoted admirer of this “man of miracles” himself.
Reading those stories — some true, some exaggerated — Lin Aoxue’s expression shifted between smiles and furrowed brows, and she even let slip an involuntary look of worry. Su Rui had entered the Western dark world with no connections and no foundation. To rise quickly,he’d had to constantly live life on a knife’s edge, his head perpetually hanging by a thread.
“If I could,I wouldn’t let you go back to the West.” Reading those words,Lin Aoxue felt her heart aching with each beat. She lost all desire to read on. She closed the book, her eyes dropping slightly,a quiet resolve flickering in her gaze.
The image of a man gradually rose in Lin Aoxue’s mind, radiating light from every part of him.
This seemingly carefree and irreverent man carried a past that made your heart ache for him. He was like a riddle, one that made you want to unravel it step by step.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Lin Aoxue set the book aside and said,”Who is it?”
“It’s me.” Su Rui said with a grin from outside the door. He was wearing shorts and a tank top,his hair still damp — he had clearly just showered. He’d been very thorough about it too. Hathaway’s perfume had been overwhelmingly strong, and if he hadn’t washed it off,he wouldn’t have known how to explain himself to Lin Aoxue.
Hearing Su Rui’s voice,Lin Aoxue’s expression shifted. She walked to the door, her slender hand coming to rest on the door handle.
But just then,as if remembering something, she lifted her hand away again and said,”I’m asleep.”
“I have something important to tell you.” Su Rui rubbed his nose, thinking to himself: this little minx has the nerve to lie to me. Asleep my ass — like I don’t know your light has been on this whole time.
Lin Aoxue said coldly,”Whatever it is can wait until tomorrow.”
“Hey,I actually like that bossy CEO energy of yours.” Su Rui said. “I really do have something important to tell you. Are you going to let me in or not?”
“I can hear you just fine through the door.” In certain moments,Lin Aoxue was even more stubborn than Su Rui.
But after saying that, the corner of Lin Aoxue’s mouth curved ever so slightly upward into the faintest hint of a smile.
“Right,with my temper,if I don’t get serious with you,you won’t know who you’re dealing with.”
With that,Su Rui’s fingers worked the lock back and forth a couple of times, and he effortlessly opened Lin Aoxue’s bedroom door.
“Beautiful, haven’t seen you all day — come give me a kiss!”
Su Rui said shamelessly. But the moment those words left his mouth, his expression instantly became absolutely priceless.
