Chapter 513: Re-entering the Wolf Spider’s Secret Realm

If Midi ever lost himself in power, status, or authority, he wouldn’t be Midi anymore.

Yet he knew his rising status widened the gap between him and Galantis – even the entire Wolf Spider tribe.

He might ignore shifts in social standing, but others wouldn’t.

After seeing the Death Scorpion elder’s groveling behavior, no Wolf Spider warrior dared joke with Midi anymore. Gone were the casual shoulder pats or friendly punches.

Even willful Galantis now measured her words carefully around him.

This could be called politeness. Maturity.

But truthfully? It was growing distance. Cold reverence.

As Midi’s power and status kept climbing, they’d eventually become strangers.

No amount of favor shown to the Wolf Spider tribe could restore their old camaraderie.

The thought weighed on him, but Midi wouldn’t slow his pace.

He knew "Queen of Magic" Fina and "Mist Sorceress" Alice waited ahead.

However fast he climbed, however powerful he became – they’d never pull away. They’d stay.

    That certainty anchored him.

The growing distance had one advantage though.

When Midi demanded re-entry to the Black Dragon monument’s cavern after returning to the Wolf Spider tribe, none dared refuse.

Not even the Wolf Spider chieftain breathed disagreement.

Through maze-like tunnels and shimmering illusion formations, Midi soon reached the cavern’s yawning emptiness again.

The fractured Black Dragon monument dominated the space, its aura pulsing steadily.

    Midi strode straight to it.

Master Hawke stayed behind – he wasn’t tribe-born. The guiding chieftain got dismissed immediately.

Alone in the cavern, Midi remembered his first visit. Back then, even Alexis could only siphon wisps of Dragon Breath from the edges.

Now he lounged by the monument itself, absorbing freely.

Power changed everything. The strong took more resources, grew stronger still – the weak fell further behind.

But this monument’s faint Dragon Breath barely affected Midi now. His true purpose lay deeper.

Psychic energy swept the cavern. Alone confirmed, Midi withdrew a forearm-sized stone chunk from his storage ring – bigger than Veyna’s fragment, same origin from Crystal Dragon Fortress.

The moment it left the ring, new Dragon Breath unfurled – faint, yet distinctly different from the Wolf Spider monument’s aura.

Midi did not hesitate and inserted the fragment next to the Wolfspider monument.

The moment it sensed the Dark Magic flowing through the magic veins, the fragment emitted a clear chime and greedily began absorbing magic energy.

At the same time, the thin Dragon Breath in the air thickened instantly.

It was like pouring honey into water—suddenly viscous, almost suffocating.

Midi sat cross-legged and started absorbing the Dragon Breath.

“The Wolfspider tribe’s monument gave me the first type of Dragon Energy. The Crystal Dragon Fortress provided the second. According to the Head of the Death Scorpion Family, Mososbury City’s Dragon Energy comes from three Black Dragon monuments. That makes five types total.”

After a long while, Midi stood and carefully removed the fragment from the magic veins, storing it in his storage ring.

It wasn’t greed—leaving the fragment behind after absorbing its Dragon Energy wouldn’t harm anyone. But knowing the Black Dragon monument’s value, Midi decided to take it.

Even a tiny piece of the Black Dragon monument was a priceless treasure for the Wolfspider tribe. As the saying goes, "Innocence dies with hidden jade." If others discovered it, the tribe would face annihilation.

He refused to add more danger to their plight.

This was why Midi had eradicated the Blue Serpent Tribe and pressured the Death Scorpion to destroy the Water Spider Tribe. If the Wolfspider’s monument were ever exposed, he wanted their enemies to think twice before attacking.

For Midi, who’d risen from the Wolfspider tribe, this was the last protection he could offer while in Mososbury City. Staying longer would only deepen the distance between them, leaving him restless.

After absorbing the second Dragon Energy type, leaving Level 7 potions for the tribe, and instructing Galantis, Midi departed for Mososbury City with Hawke and his guards without resting.

That city was his true stage now.

When Midi arrived, rumors of the Water Spider Tribe’s elimination by the Death Scorpion had just spread. Unsurprised, he privately sent Alexis, the Death Scorpion’s sole remaining core disciple, several potions.

Though only Level 7, these potions signaled Midi’s stance to the Death Scorpion’s Head: he wouldn’t target Alexis at the Black Dragon Conference.

With this, the aftermath of the Crystal Dragon Fortress trial settled—at least outwardly.

Over the next two weeks, Midi remained grounded despite the Death Scorpion’s favor, training relentlessly. He now understood the Black Dragon Conference’s true scale.

Mososbury City ranked high among urban factions, but above them loomed the temple factions. This meant Midi would face competitors stronger than Thor the Warrior—higher-leveled, with older bloodlines.

Complacency now meant death against temple fighters.

Four months had passed since Fate’s Choice teleported him to the Shaded Realm. Battling nonstop, he’d finally reached the Dragon Tooth Arena’s threshold. Slacking wasn’t an option.

The real fight began here. The Black Dragon Conference gathered the Shaded Realm’s greatest talents, making it the most perilous trial.

Midi spared no moment, devoting every second to training.

“Level 65, major success!” Two weeks later, he broke through again. Though slower than his progress at the Dragon God Temple, his high status in the Death Scorpion granted unlimited resources. He’d accessed the Library Tower’s top floor, obtaining alchemy formulas for Grade Nine and Ten Potions. With these and the family’s support, he surged from Level 65’s minor to major success.

Now, the Dragon Tooth Arena awaited.

As a major city in the Shaded Realm’s fourth layer, Mososbury City held seven Black Dragon warrior slots:

    1. Thor (Death Scorpion), Battle Mage, peak-level 67, captain—30% Dragon Energy.

    2. Midi (Death Scorpion), four-system Demon Swordman, Level 65 major success, vice-captain—40%.

    3. Loki (Death Scorpion), Ice Mage, peak-level 65—10%.

    4. Alexis (Death Scorpion), Ghost Cry user, peak-level 65—10%.

    5. Risen (Flame Serpent), Fighter, peak-level 64—10%.

These five from the city council’s major families claimed all Dragon Energy.

The last two—Zaknavan (Demon Swordman) and Mason (roaming gunslinger)—were from small families. Though peak-level 64 thanks to Midi, they received no Dragon Energy. Yet becoming Black Dragon warriors alone surpassed their wildest dreams.

Together, these seven formed Mososbury City’s team. Led by the Death Scorpion’s Head, they’d traverse the cross-domain teleportation portal to the Dragon Tooth Arena.

Their destination: the Shaded Realm’s fifth layer.
