    Chapter 570: Forest Messenger

After feasting and resting in the woods near the beach for a night, the group set off again the next morning.

This place is not as silent as the depths of Desolace. In fact, it reminds Jesse of the coast of Dun Morogh, passing by it on a boat from Stormwind to Southshore of Hillsbrad Foothills. It is deserted with some normal greenery.

Jesse guessed that this is because the distance from Maraudon is too close. Even if Theradras drew out the life force of Mashan’she, her own power still affects this mountainous area and coast at all times, ultimately leaving behind a somewhat normal ecological environment.

Jesse knew this place. He remembered that there was even a Naga-occupied lonely island and bay on the northern coastline.

However, in the game, he never considered why this place looks so much more normal than the interior of Desolace, just feeling that something was not quite right.

After taking a walk through Maraudon and experiencing the terrifying power of Theradras firsthand, and seeing the sights here, they surprisingly found some satisfaction in finding the answers.

According to the map, passing through a plain to the south mountains, and then through a canyon, you’ll be close to Feralas.

But before that, you need to head northeast, follow the mountainside all the way until you return to Valley of the Spears where Maraudine tribe is located and the entrance to Maraudon Holy Tomb, give Vyletongue’s head to the Centaur there, in exchange for the promised reward.

"We can’t tell those Centaur about the crevice behind Maraudon, can we?" Greed said as they walked. "If we do, the information about where to sell to Nesingwary won’t be worth anything."

"Nesingwary probably doesn’t speak Centaur language, right?" Jesse asked.

"Don’t be so optimistic," Greed said. "Nesingwary, although not a member of the Explorer’s League, has traveled the world for hunting and challenges. I have no doubt he has been to Kalimdor. And for sure he must know Elven language, just see how our Elven Wisp in the group talks to the Centaur, Jesse."

Jesse nodded and asked, "If we don’t tell the Centaur, how do we explain how we managed to escape?"

Greed replied, "That’s easy, just say we don’t know what happened and managed to escape, it must have been some dark magic from demons. They probably intended to throw us into the Twisting Nether, but by some stroke of luck, we managed to escape from Maraudon, a lucky misfortune."

"Will the Centaur believe that?" Jesse asked.

Greed said, "I think the evil demon may have used strange magic to create unexplainable events underneath their grandmother’s nest. Besides, their minds are not very sharp, right?"

"You’re right, and no matter what, Vyletongue is already dead," Jesse said. "No one will tell them the truth."

The two of them chatted while Vereesa gazed into a distant forest.

    "What’s over there?" Greed asked.

"I want to document this place," Vereesa said to Jesse. "Give me a blank scroll, Jesse, and some ink."

Jesse handed her a pen and scroll, and got ink out of his potion pouch. Vereesa walked towards the area as she said, "I think this place is quite suitable for establishing a Farstriders outpost. Plenty of food, fresh water, and one of the few spots in this desolate area with green vegetation. The greatest danger won’t stray far from her nest."

Vereesa was right, later the Darkspear trolls established a village here as a Horde outpost in Desolace.

    "Vereesa!"

Mosa shouted, pointing to a small rocky slope where a white figure was watching the rangers.

When Vereesa saw the figure, she immediately became alert. Greed and Jesse also grabbed their weapons, but the figure just stood there without any reaction, neither trying to escape nor showing any intention to fight, as if completely indifferent to their actions.

What made Jesse even more nervous was that, aside from Mosa, no one had noticed the guy standing there so boldly in the first place.

If Mosa hadn’t pointed it out, this group of people might not have even noticed that someone was watching them until they left.

It was fine that Jesse couldn’t sense it, after all, he was more sensitive to shadow and fell magic. He was not as perceptive to Arcane as Vereesa, nor to other scents, beasts or humans, even less so than Greed.

But the fact that both of them showed no reaction was just too strange.

At that moment, the white figure lowered its head and shifted slightly. Only then did Jesse notice that this seemed to be not a normal humanoid creature; below the humanoid upper body was a four-legged body.

    "Centaur?" Greed whispered.

    "Not a Centaur," Jesse said.

This is a Dryad, a descendant of Cenarius.

Mosa seemed to recognize the others. She bowed to Dryad and looked at Tauren, then glanced at the rest of the group.

Then, Jesse heard a strange and mystical woman’s voice, as if it were music.

"You all carry a demonic aura, travelers, showing your purpose here. Otherwise, we will not let you go easily."

She spoke in a common language, very clearly, but immediately pointed out the demonic aura…

Luckily, to avoid being spotted by the Centaur patroller from afar, Jesse had already made Molofeel invisible and moved forward. Otherwise, meeting this Dryad face to face might have led to trouble.

Jesse quickly said, "We just escaped from the corrupted depths of Terramok, Cenarius’s daughter. There were many demons inside."

Vereesa took out the Satyr head wrapped in magic cloth from her backpack, holding its long horns, and said, "Perhaps because of this, the demon Vyletongue has lurked deep within Maraudon for many years. We were sent by the Centaur to enter and hunt demons inside, and it was not easy to leave."

"It’s not that simple," the snowy white Dryad tilted her head, looking at Jesse and said, "The demonic aura on you is much stronger than that head, human."

As she spoke, more and more green Dryads appeared behind her. By now, about six or seven had peeked out, and there might be even more.
