Chapter 99: Dead End

Yin Tianxing froze, then his face twisted in horror.

“Yin Tianxing! You dare blind me? Die!”

Luo Wencheng’s roar shook the air as his body burst into blinding flames, charging like a fiery comet toward Yin Tianxing.

Having followed Luo Wencheng for three years, Yin Tianxing knew him well—yet he’d never witnessed this flame transformation.

The inferno swallowed Yin Tianxing in an instant.

He screamed, his cultivation level normally shielding him from ordinary fire. But this strange blaze tore through his spiritual defenses, searing flesh and bone.

“How’s the Fire-Eyed Qilin’s true fire treating you?” Luo Wencheng’s icy voice hissed in his ear.

“Impossible!” Yin Tianxing shrieked. “That five-pattern spirit beast has awakened intelligence! You couldn’t tame it or steal its true fire!”

The Fire-Eyed Qilin of Absolute Sword Peak rivaled early foundation establishment stage cultivators. Its true fire was its core—losing it would reduce the beast to mediocrity. Such treasures were fiercely guarded. How had Luo Wencheng succeeded?

Yet the agony burning through Yin Tianxing’s soul left no doubt—this fire matched the Qilin’s legendary flames.

Luo Wencheng abandoned his taunt as crushing pressure erupted behind him. Far stronger than expected.

“Song Zilin! You’ve been hiding your power too!”

Spinning midair, Luo Wencheng summoned a copper mirror with a flick of yellow light.

CLANG!

The deafening impact sent the mirror spiraling away. A crimson great sword shattered his defenses, its edge screaming toward his skull.

The strike surpassed Body Refinement Stage Six, brushing the true fire realm’s might. Though adjacent cultivation stages, the gap between true essence and true fire was tenfold—why Luo Wencheng had dismissed four attackers as harmless.

Yet Song Zilin’s blade defied all expectations.

Luo Wencheng barely deflected it, flipping backward as the mirror fell. His remaining eye glared at Song Zilin, blood weeping from the ruined socket. “Scheming rat! You’ve reached the true fire realm!”

Song Zilin stayed silent, sword gleaming as he lunged again. Words meant nothing now—only survival.

Though caught off-guard earlier, Luo Wencheng smirked. Late true fire realm cultivation surged through him, mere steps from foundation establishment. “Then take your secrets to the grave!”

Leaping skyward, he traced starlight with his fingertips. A massive star map unfurled overhead, nine Divine Swords materializing within its glow.

“Nine Star Sword Map!”

The constellation whirled, raining starlight and sword arcs. Song Zilin paled—this was no low-grade spiritual weapon, but a genuine medium-grade treasure.

“Heavenly Sword Sunrise!”

Song Zilin’s blade shattered mid-swing, reforging as a radiant heavenly sword. His eighth-grade Celestial Technique blazed as he channeled all true qi into the strike—a desperate bid to withstand the onslaught.

However, in the next instant, he realized his mistake – a devastatingly wrong judgment.

The radiant heavenly sword began dissolving the moment it contacted hundreds of light and shadows, shattering completely within two breaths. Countless starlit sword lights descended like dense rainfall, completely trapping him.

Song Zilin’s face drained of color. The medium-grade spiritual weapon unleashed by a peak true fire realm expert possessed overwhelming power. Despite sharing the same cultivation level, he stood no chance of resistance.

Clenching his teeth, Song Zilin summoned a blue shadow above his head that enveloped him like rippling water.

Hundreds of starlit Sword Energies crashed violently against the azure barrier. Surprisingly, the blue waves didn’t break immediately, undulating rhythmically to neutralize the attacks.

But the Sword Energies proved too numerous. After enduring five breaths, the blue barrier shattered with crystalline clarity, collapsing into glittering fragments that scattered across the yellow sand.

The remaining dozens of sword arcs pierced through Song Zilin’s body, nailing him to the desert floor.

Both were true fire realm cultivators, but the gulf in power proved insurmountable – especially with Luo Wencheng’s medium-grade spiritual weapon advantage.

Despair flooded Song Zilin’s eyes as his true qi rapidly drained. The sword arcs penetrating him solidified into nine Divine Swords from the Nine Star Sword Map, immobilizing him completely. Unable to circulate healing energy, he could only await death’s approach.

Nearby, Yin Tianxing struggled against foundation establishment stage-level flames that had already consumed his lower body, leaving only his torso resisting.

"Luo Wencheng! I’ll haunt you even as a ghost!" His agonized shout carried bitter regret – perhaps for letting Ye Yun persuade him into betrayal.

"You chose betrayal knowing the consequences. This Yellow Sand Desert makes fine burial grounds." Luo Wencheng didn’t glance at the dying man, his cold smile fixed on Ye Yun and Su Ling nearing the distant exit.

Yin Tianxing roared through the flames: "Your cruelty will destroy you! Others will end you soon!"

Luo Wencheng ignored the curse. Killing intent flashed in his single eye as he vanished, reappearing hundred zhang away through successive teleportations until materializing behind the escaping pair.

"Planning to leave, Su Ling? Too late."

The emotionless threat dripped with murderous intent.

Ye Yun’s expression darkened. Though the exit lay mere hundred zhang ahead, Luo Wencheng’s superior cultivation had closed the gap. Their last chance evaporated before the expert’s impossible speed.

A sidelong glance at Su Ling. Resolve hardened in Ye Yun’s eyes as he inhaled deeply.

"Go first."

Su Ling shook her head instinctively.

"Fetch reinforcements if you want me alive!"

Before she could react, Ye Yun unleashed explosive spiritual power, palm striking her back to propel her forward like crashing waves.

Coldness gripped Luo Wencheng’s heart at the sight.

"You pass only over my corpse."

Ye Yun stood firm, eyes narrowed. Ice energy and flames erupted instantly, twin veils shielding his position.
