Chapter 85: Incomprehensible
The mighty Lightning Light Snakes rampaged within Ye Yun, destroying his meridians one by one. Every drop of blood contained lightning power, and his bones were pierced and crushed. Though he appeared intact externally, his internal state had completely collapsed.
Ye Yun knew this must be the purple light shadow’s doing. To gain the light shadow’s power, he had to endure endless agony while keeping his body from breaking down.
*Break and then stand!*
These four characters flashed through his mind. Beautiful words indeed—success would bring tremendous rewards. Yet the crux lay in surviving the "break" to reach the "stand." Failure meant only death and disappearance of the spirit.
Ye Yun teetered on the brink of collapse. He hadn’t imagined the final purple light shadow’s power would be this overwhelming.
*Am I truly going to die?*
As his meridians shattered, the thought surfaced.
Su Lingxiu’s brows knitted tightly. At the altar’s center, Ye Yun stood deathly pale, eyes devoid of life.
"How?" Panic gripped her. She lunged onto the altar.
The structure blazed with lightning. Ye Yun barely remained upright, trembling yet stubbornly holding on.
"Ye Yun! Abandon this!" She stretched her hand to yank him from the storm.
An immense power erupted from Ye Yun’s body. Converged Lightning Light Snakes struck her chest like a tidal wave.
Su Lingxiu flew backward, blood mist spraying from her lips to scatter like crimson stars.
Unaware, Ye Yun only noticed the body-rending spiritual power briefly weakening—a fleeting respite before fiercer lightning snakes invaded.
Total bodily explosion and spiritual annihilation seemed inevitable.
"Black and white light—absorb this!" Clenching through pain, Ye Yun focused his mind to awaken the dormant light in his dantian.
Instantaneously, suction erupted from his dantian. The black and white light spun into a swirling whirlpool.
Like floodgates opening, the rampaging lightning snakes poured into the vortex.
Ye Yun’s agony lessened as endless lightning power streamed dragon-like into the whirlpool—a bottomless void devouring all spiritual energy.
Outside, Su Lingxiu ignored her bloodstained robes, eyes fixed on the altar. The lightning veil thinned, revealing hundreds of electric snakes plunging into Ye Yun.
When the last purple lightning vanished into him, the altar’s purple light shadow snapped out of existence.
Ye Yun stood swaying, pallid yet radiating an aura that pierced the heavens—an indomitable force.
"Cough!"
Du Jianyin awoke on the altar’s far side, coughing. His fearful gaze locked onto Ye Yun’s towering presence, draining color from his already ashen face.
Rising slowly, he exhaled sharply. His sword-sharp aura resurged, intensified.
Ye Yun opened his eyes. Twin lightning bolts shot forth, crackling against the distant wall.
Du Jianyin’s pupils narrowed. "You’ve gained much," he hissed. "Now you’ll die beneath my white sword."
Ye Yun’s expression remained neutral.
"Have you lost your mind?" Su Lingxiu’s voice cut through as she materialized beside Ye Yun. "Are you hurt?"
His stony heart softened. "I’m fine."
The altar’s lightning had faded, replaced by undulating teal energy coalescing into an archaic stone archway.
Du Jianyin’s frosty voice interrupted: "You’ll both die. My blade spares none."
"Arrogant fool!" Su Lingxiu snapped. "The Du family crumbles if my Heavenly Sword Sect wills it."
"Foolish girl." Du Jianyin leveled his white sword. "Even tenfold stronger, your sect means nothing. He insulted me by remaining conscious during the restriction break. Death alone cleanses this shame."
Su Lingxiu gaped. "That’s your logic? Then kill me too—I emerged unscathed!"
"What?" Du Jianyin’s face stiffened. "Then perish together."
Coldness flashed across Ye Yun’s features. He gestured to the teal door. "This portal’s purpose is unknown. We may need combined strength beyond it."
Du Jianyin cold snorted. "Honor outweighs survival."
"Then battle is unavoidable?" Ye Yun’s brow darkened.
"Not battle." Murderous intent thickened. "Your executions."
"Then I’ll have to kill you first," Ye Yun stated flatly.
