Chapter 96: The Peak Master’s Daughter

Ye Yun and Su Ling never anticipated Luo Wencheng would harbor such sinister plans. Earlier, when entering the great tomb, Ye Yun had clearly heard Yang Qingfeng declare that outer disciples who survived could keep their treasures without surrendering them to the sect, and would receive special cultivation resources upon returning.

Yet now Luo Wencheng sought to kill and plunder. Was this his own scheme, or did it come from Ouyang Wentian?

Ye Yun turned to Su Ling, his eyes burning with fury and bewilderment.

Catching his unspoken questions, Su Ling shook her head nervously. "This can’t be Uncle Ouyang’s will. Luo Wencheng must have acted on his own after losing the green jade divine rune."

"The green jade divine rune? That teal light we saw?" Ye Yun whispered near her ear.

Su Ling nodded. "Uncle Ouyang gave each top ten disciple a green jade divine rune he forged himself. It contains celestial power from the foundation establishment stage – a single activation equals Third Level foundation establishment strength. For them, it’s like an extra life. Who knew he’d waste his against the Giant of Yellow Sand?"

"So he takes it out on us outer disciples to recoup losses?" Ye Yun’s bitter laugh held no mirth.

"I… I won’t allow this!" Su Ling blurted after faltering.

Ye Yun inhaled deeply, controlling his temper. "We’re leaving." As Luo Wencheng’s group advanced cautiously, Ye Yun tugged Su Ling backward.

"But I’ve met Senior Brother Luo before. He wouldn’t harm us," Su Ling protested weakly.

Ye Yun’s voice turned icy. "Men like him care nothing for past ties. Especially when we carry valuable treasures."

Puzzlement creased Su Ling’s brow. "The Giant didn’t seem capable of fatal blows. Why use such a precious talisman?"

Ye Yun pondered. "We only felt residual pressure. But at the attack’s epicenter, Luo Wencheng likely faced unavoidable destruction. The rune was his last resort."

Though less knowledgeable than Su Ling, Ye Yun’s combat instincts surpassed hers. The truth was clear – without the divine rune, Luo Wencheng would’ve suffered talent-destroying injuries, ending his cultivation path.

"This unstable space will shatter soon. Search thoroughly for heavenly materials and earthly treasures!" Luo Wencheng’s voice boomed across the dunes. "Track any intruders – their possessions must be worthy of the Hualun Secret Vault’s second layer!"

Su Ling stumbled as Ye Yun yanked her down. He pressed a finger to his lips.

Just then, Luo Wencheng’s piercing gaze swept their direction. A glowing pearl rose from his palm, bathing a hundred zhang radius in stark light.

His earlier proclamation had been bait. Outer disciples might flee; sect experts might ignore it. But his spirit perception found nothing.

"No one?" Luo Wencheng growled. "How will I replace the lost rune without treasures here?"

"Senior Brother, this desert appears barren," ventured an inner disciple.

"Can this truly be the second layer?" another questioned.

Luo Wencheng glared. "Sense the spiritual energy! Unlike the first layer’s corrosive miasma, this pure energy surpasses Absolute Sword Peak’s three-star Gathering Qi Array. We stay!"

The inner disciples exchanged uneasy glances. If every layer held giants like before, even their leader’s talismans wouldn’t save them. Their hints to retreat went unheeded.

But Luo Wencheng, having lost the green jade divine rune, refused to leave. He gripped his sword tightly and moved forward cautiously, forcing the two inner disciples to exchange glances before silently following.

Ye Yun and Su Ling lay motionless beneath the yellow sand, letting wind-blown grit gradually bury them. They feared even the slightest movement might reveal their position.

When Luo Wencheng’s silhouette finally vanished into the sandstorm a thousand zhang away, Ye Yun tugged Su Ling’s sleeve. Both rose from the dunes.

"Now’s our chance," Su Ling said, studying the warping space before dragging Ye Yun toward the area split by flickering light and shadow.

Ye Yun couldn’t hold a candle to Su Ling’s grasp of spatial arrays. He simply kept pace as she darted forward.

Their cultivation levels allowed them to traverse miles in moments, nearing the shattering spatial boundary.

Then appeared the impossible – three figures materializing before them.

Luo Wencheng and his companions emerged sideways, blocking their path.

The pair halted abruptly, shock flashing across their faces.

"Empty space? Impossible." Luo Wencheng smirked. "Only by breaking the array’s core could this rift exist. We merely followed the instability."

"Senior Brother Luo’s foresight is unmatched!"

"Truly, your strategies surpass understanding!"

The inner disciples’ flattery rang out as Ye Yun grimaced. Twenty years in the Heavenly Sword Sect had honed Luo Wencheng’s cunning beyond his own.

"Let us pass, Senior Brother." Su Ling stepped from Ye Yun’s shadow, chin lifted.

Luo Wencheng’s eyes narrowed. "Su Ling? Tian Zhu Peak disciples entered this tomb. Why’s a Shadowless Peak brat here?"

"Curiosity."

"Find any treasures?" His blunt demand hung in the air.

Su Ling stiffened. "None of your concern."

With a dismissive snort, Luo Wencheng turned to Ye Yun. "Surrender your findings. Perhaps I’ll spare you."

Ye Yun’s jaw tightened – Su Ling’s answer had sealed their fate. His muscles coiled for action.

"You’d murder sect brothers?" Su Ling lunged between them.

Luo Wencheng chuckled. "Many perish mysteriously in tombs."

"Dare you try?" Her voice turned icy. "I’m Su Hao’s daughter – Shadowless Peak’s master!"

"What?!" Yin Tianxing stumbled back, face pale. "The Peak Master’s child?!"
