Chapter 86: Sword Shatter
"So much nonsense. Let’s fight."
Du Jianyin let out a cold snort, his face twisted in contempt.
Ye Yun rarely spoke much, yet now he’d been accused of blathering. His expression remained blank as he glanced at Du Jianyin. Without a word, black light flashed in his hand—the Obsidian Sword materialized.
"Ye Yun, teach him a lesson!" Su Ling clenched her pale fists, anger simmering. But her voice softened as she added, "Be careful."
Ye Yun nodded. Spiritual power surged within him, and the faint rumble of thunder echoed around his body the moment his energy stirred.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, sensing faint electric flickers coursing through his veins—an indescribable, arcane sensation.
"You dare wield a sword before me? Your grip is unrefined. Such clumsy swordsmanship insults the blade itself. To insult my sword is to insult me. Today, you die!"
The sight of Ye Yun holding the Obsidian Sword horizontally sent Du Jianyin into a sudden rage, his eyes blazing.
Ye Yun’s eyebrow twitched.
With a roar, Du Jianyin leapt upward, hovering in mid-air. His white sword trembled thousands of times in an instant, each vibration releasing a sword arc that coalesced into a pristine, jade-like light sword above him.
"This technique is called Sword Slashing Rivers and Mountains. One strike crushes mountains and splits rivers." Du Jianyin spoke slowly, almost leisurely, as if savoring the explanation.
After his words, he flicked his wrist. The hovering light sword rose higher before plummeting toward Ye Yun’s skull with devastating speed.
True to its name, the strike radiated earth-shattering force—enough to fragment stone and sever currents.
Ye Yun’s pupils shrank to pinpoints.
He sprang upward, spiritual power erupting. Thunder boomed across the void as electric snakes writhed into existence.
"First stance of the Thundercloud Lightning Sword: Thundercloud Emergence!"
The Obsidian Sword thrust forward. Violent lightning tore through the air, purple bolts coiling around the blade like a roaring black dragon charging toward the pristine light sword.
BOOM!
The two sword techniques collided. Spiritual power exploded outward in a shockwave, nearly knocking Su Ling off her feet despite her cultivation.
When the storm subsided, Du Jianyin stood at the altar’s edge while Ye Yun remained rooted in place, unscathed.
"To block my strike… impressive." Du Jianyin’s eyes flickered with surprise before hardening. He raised his sword again, voice icy. "My Heavenly Blade technique has five forms. Though I’ve mastered only three, not even early-stage Qi refining disciples can withstand them. You’ve no chance."
"Your tongue outmatches your blade a hundredfold!" Su Ling taunted, relief easing her tension as she saw Ye Yun unharmed.
"Little girl," Du Jianyin hissed, "your mockery doubles your suffering before death." His gaze dropped to his white sword.
"Second technique: Sword Slashing Stars. When this blade falls, constellations shatter. Flee if you wish—you’ll only meet your end faster."
He thrust his sword. Countless sword arcs burst forth, blanketing the altar in searing light—a relentless assault meant to corner its target.
"Ye Yun!" Su Ling paled, recognizing the technique’s lethal precision.
Ye Yun showed no fear. He advanced instead of retreating, the Obsidian Sword lashing out in a hundred strikes.
"Thunderous Strike!"
The Thundercloud Lightning Sword’s second stance erupted. Without his lightning-refined physique and the energy absorbed from the altar’s purple light shadow, this move would’ve been impossible.
The altar became a storm of lightning. Bolts rained from the void, each intercepting a sword arc. Dozen more streaks veered toward Du Jianyin.
Arrogance vanished from Du Jianyin’s face. He’d never imagined Ye Yun’s strike could counter his own so perfectly. Even early Qi refining disciples fell to his blade—how could a mere Connecting Orifices stage cultivator rival him?
CRACK!
Du Jianyin parried frantically, sword petals blooming defensively. Five thunderbolts shattered his guard, slamming into his chest.
The impact hurled him against a distant wall. He crumpled, white sword clattering as blood dripped from his lips.
"What… sword art… is this?" He staggered upright, leaning heavily on his blade.
"A ninth-tier Celestial Technique: Thundercloud Lightning Sword." Ye Yun frowned. "One stance remains. Can you endure it?"
Instead of fear, fanaticism burned in Du Jianyin’s eyes. Yet his reply stunned both Ye Yun and Su Ling:
"No. If I couldn’t stop this, the next will end me. You win."
Su Ling gaped, expecting hidden tricks. Du Jianyin merely planted his sword into the ground.
"Your cultivation is inferior, yet I lost. My path with the sword was flawed—I’ve disgraced it." His voice turned hollow. "Kill me."
Ye Yun hesitated. His gaze dropped to the Obsidian Sword—its once-gleaming blade now spiderwebbed with cracks.
"This blade’s grade is too low… incompatible with lightning energy." Deeper infusion would shatter it completely.
He looked up, eyes inevitably drawn to Du Jianyin’s pristine, jade-like sword.
