Chapter 84: Body of Thunder

Ye Yun instantly noticed the transformation in the blue egg. Before he could speak, Su Ling cried out in astonishment: “Ye Yun! The spiritual energy inside this blue egg has grown denser, and its life force feels stronger!”

Ye Yun squinted slightly.

The blue egg in Su Ling’s hand gave him the impression it might hatch at any moment. Regardless of what creature lay inside, it seemed the earlier blue light shadow had tempered the egg as if reforging part of its essence. Such strangeness unsettled even a cultivator of his level.

He inhaled deeply before shifting his gaze to the purple light shadow.

“Who are you? Which sect’s disciples?”

A voice suddenly rose from below the altar.

Ye Yun and Su Ling spun around, only now noticing a stranger standing there.

A youth around fourteen or fifteen, clad in a white sword robe, glared coldly at them. Sword light glinted in his eyes. To Ye Yun, the boy felt less like a person and more like an unsheathed blade.

“Senior brother, we’re outer disciples of the Heavenly Sword Sect. I’m Ye Yun, and this is my senior sister Su Ling.” Ye Yun clasped his hands politely. “May we ask which sect you belong to?”

“Heavenly Sword Sect disciples?” The white-robed youth sneered. “No wonder you managed to reach this place. Only our Du family and your sect deserve recognition in the Jin Kingdom. The rest are trash.”

Ye Yun kept his tone neutral. “So you’re from the Du family. But this should be an entry path for our sect. Why are you here?”

Du Jianyin’s gaze turned icy. “I go where I please. Since when do Heavenly Sword Sect worms question me?”

Ye Yun’s eyes narrowed. This Du disciple clearly sought trouble.

Su Ling stepped forward angrily before Ye Yun could respond. “We asked politely! Is rudeness the Du family’s teaching?”

Du Jianyin’s murderous intent thickened as he eyed her. “A pretty face, destined to bewitch nations. Pity you’ll die today for daring to challenge me. Perfect test subjects for my new spiritual weapon!”

White light flashed as he drew a pristine, jade-like sword.

Su Ling tensed, but Ye Yun already stood shielding her. “You were teleported here because of that sword,” he stated flatly. “But you don’t know how to leave, do you?”

Du Jianyin froze, eyes sharpening. “Explain.”

“The array’s restrictions require cooperation.” Ye Yun gestured behind them. “Three light shadows existed here. We broke one. To dismantle the rest, we need spiritual weapons—including yours.”

He nodded at Du Jianyin’s blade. “Test it yourself if you doubt.”

Du Jianyin scoffed but leaped onto the altar. After studying the remaining white and purple light shadows, he jabbed a finger at the white one.

Instantly, his body convulsed. Primal terror erupted from the depths of his soul, shattering his sword-like aura into broken fragments. White light engulfed everything as Ye Yun and Su Ling retreated. Within the radiance, Du Jianyin’s sword floated midair, devouring the raging torrents of white light.

Ye Yun wasn’t sure what would happen next, but he understood that breaking the restrictions required matching both the chosen individuals and treasures to the three light shadows. The final purple light shadow was reserved for him.

Time raced by. Du Jianyin now looked utterly drained, as if every drop of spiritual power had been sucked from him. His once fierce Sword Energy and pride had vanished, leaving only frailty and defeat.

Suddenly, the white light shadows shrank and disappeared completely, as though they’d never existed.

The pristine, jade-like sword descended, plunging into the jade altar beside Du Jianyin. Shockingly, Du Jianyin didn’t even try to catch his sword. His body slumped and crumpled to the ground, face deathly pale as he fell unconscious.

Ye Yun and Su Ling stared at each other. This was nothing like when Su Ling had interacted with the blue shadow earlier—despite the blue light filling the air, she hadn’t collapsed. What were they supposed to do now?

Ye Yun glanced between the unconscious Du Jianyin and the clearly extraordinary white sword. For a heartbeat, he considered claiming the weapon—but immediately dismissed the thought. It wasn’t about honor; the great tomb’s eerie design seemed to intentionally assign specific spiritual weapons to each of them. This sword felt incompatible with his cultivation techniques and spiritual energy. Worse, taking it might trigger unknown consequences.

“Su Ling, step back with me. The last purple shadow could be dangerous,” he said after a pause.

Su Ling met his gaze, starlight glimmering in her eyes as she nodded.

Only the purple light shadow remained now, hovering silently where the others had vanished.

Ye Yun drew a steadying breath. Spiritual power surged through him, carrying faint but unmistakable currents of lightning through his veins. The purple lightning bolt he’d absorbed had changed him, imprinting his body with thunder’s essence. His future cultivation would need to focus here.

He marveled at how, mere days ago, he’d chosen the Thundercloud Lightning Sword Celestial Technique purely for its raw power and vague intuition about its usefulness. Never could he have imagined that in the Hualun Secret Vault’s first layer, he’d gain this lightning-altered constitution. Fate worked in wondrous ways.

Ye Yun thrust his hand into the purple shadow.

Blinding violet light erupted, swallowing him whole. Familiar lightning energy poured into his arm—but this time, it tore through him like molten steel. If the earlier soul-deep pain had been a spark, this was an inferno.

He roared.

To Su Ling, each cry sounded like thunderclaps. Only her peak body refinement stage cultivation saved her eardrums as she sealed her hearing.

Inside the lightning realm, Ye Yun stood helpless. Thunder boomed overhead while electric snakes struck him relentlessly. Dozens vanished into his flesh with each breath, ravaging his meridians. The spiritual power threatened to crush his bones, boil his blood.

“Too strong…” he thought desperately. Du Jianyin had barely survived the white shadow’s trial. But this purple shadow’s power dwarfed it entirely. How long could he last?
