Chapter 73: Stirring Up Trouble
Within a few breaths, the black fog vanished completely.
Crack!
Several crisp sounds echoed simultaneously as the stone walls flickered with light and shadow, engulfing the entire stone chamber.
The blinding radiance forced everyone to squint. When the light faded, Su Ling and Ye Yun found themselves facing an unimaginable sight.
Emerald waters met azure skies amidst lush mountains. Two deer in the distance raised their heads warily before resuming grazing.
Ye Yun and Su Ling exchanged stunned glances, never expecting such serene beauty within the great tomb.
"A spatial array?" they blurted in unison.
The Golden Pill master’s methods proved miraculous, layering spatial arrays endlessly. If this was merely the first layer, what horrors awaited in the second or third? Not even Foundation Establishment experts would survive, let alone Qi refining stage disciples.
Most cultivators would’ve perished in that black fog alone.
"This tomb’s design confirms my belief – incredible treasures must lie within." Su Ling waved glowing patterns from her palms, hopping excitedly. "We must claim some before Uncle Ouyang’s group finds them!"
Ye Yun nodded, then suddenly looked upwards.
Transparent ripples distorted the air above. With a soft pop, several figures tumbled down.
The pair leaped aside, spiritual power surging defensively.
"What a fine death trap!" Duan Chenfeng’s familiar voice rang out from the fallen group. The others rising from the ground included Qu Yiping, Yu Minghong, Yang Yunsong, and a vaguely familiar youth.
"Ye Yun? Still breathing?" Duan Chenfeng rasped, dusting himself off.
Ye Yun gave him a neutral glance before addressing Yu Minghong. "How did you all arrive here?"
"Brother Ye!" Yu Minghong wiped sweat from his pale face. "Twenty of us gathered in a stone chamber. When we broke the restrictions…"
"Twenty together?" Ye Yun’s eyebrows shot up, noticing their haunted expressions.
"Five survivors," Duan Chenfeng interjected icily.
Su Ling gasped. Ye Yun’s jaw tightened – he’d suspected this, but hearing it chilled him.
"And her?" Duan Chenfeng glared at Su Ling.
"Shadowless Peak disciple. Saved my life," Ye Yun said curtly.
The group stared at Su Ling with newfound wariness.
Yu Minghong continued shakily: "We entered a crystal hall with a platform carved from top-grade spirit stone. Spiritual energy so thick you could bottle it…" His voice faltered. "Then arrows rained poison. Six died instantly."
Qu Yiping trembled, sharp tone contrasting his pallor: "Sect tasks indeed trade lives for gains."
"How’d you escape?" Ye Yun pressed Duan Chenfeng.
"Took a teal crystal from the platform," Duan Chenfeng muttered privately.
Ye Yun recalled his own red crystal from the flames, plus the unexamined purple crystal and mist pearl.
"Flame sea. Red crystal." Ye Yun shrugged when Duan Chenfeng questioned Su Ling’s presence. "She’s no supervisor."
"Array-breakers converge here?" Duan Chenfeng mused when a new voice interrupted.
"Duan Chenfeng! Even weeds survive storms."
Two figures emerged from shrubbery. A yellow-robed youth cried "Senior Brother Jin!" and rushed forward.
"Yellow Robed Disciples?" Duan Chenfeng sneered.
Senior Brother Jin stepped forward, murderous intent flaring. "This isn’t sect ground, fool."
Duan Chenfeng’s lips curled. "Finally something interesting."
