Chapter 69: The Array Eye
None dared resist. All could see the murderous intent in the white-clad disciples’ eyes. Most outer disciples felt creeping coldness, dragging their feet to avoid leading the procession.
Yet after taking deep breath, Ye Yun strode forward decisively, positioning himself behind Yang Qingfeng.
"Senior Brother Yang, I’m Ye Yun. May I ask questions?" he whispered.
Yang Qingfeng’s eyes initially sharpened, but hearing the name, his brow twitched. "Speak," he replied coldly.
"Since Hualun Secret Vault requires four clans to unlock, why send us unranked disciples instead of Qi refining experts?"
"You presume Elder Seven’s protection ensures survival?" Yang Qingfeng smirked. "But now the vault opens, truth matters little. This tomb belongs to Golden Pill master—filled with heavenly materials, secret techniques, possibly legendary artifacts. Its layered depths remain unknown, but the outermost layer rejects Qi refining cultivators entirely."
Ye Yun’s eyes narrowed. "Why?"
"First layer restrictions annihilate any Qi refining entrant. Else why send you? Purple and black robe disciples hold greater potential yet remain excluded." Surprisingly patient, the sixth-stage Body Refinement inner sect disciple tapped his sleeve.
"Gratitude for the explanation." Ye Yun bowed, skepticism lingering.
"These matters required disclosure regardless." Yang Qingfeng turned impassively.
The Tian Zhu Peak contingent halted.
"Your mission: locate and destroy first layer’s array eye. Succeed, and sect’s elite may enter. Achieve this, and you’ll become core disciples with boundless future." Yang Qingfeng’s voice carried across the crowd. "All treasures obtained become yours. Sect rewards will dwarf Tian Zhu Peak’s promises."
Excitement replaced fear in many eyes.
As Yang Qingfeng resumed leading, Ye Yun and Duan Chenfeng drifted to the rear.
"Treasures for outer disciples? Generous rewards?" Duan Chenfeng muttered, foolish facade gone. "Impossibly convenient."
"Great rewards mean greater peril," Ye Yun murmured. "We tread carefully."
"Could we overpower white-robed ones?"
Ye Yun’s eyes flashed but he walked on silently.
Approaching the vault’s base, its scale overwhelmed. The hundred-zhang structure loomed like translucent mountain, walls shimmering with purple-tinged jade. Twelve black passages pierced its base, their Tian Zhu Peak entrance marked by carved purple longsword.
Gentle pressure enveloped them—soothing yet ominous beneath the beautiful facade.
"Enter here. Darkness deceives—interior space differs." Yang Qingfeng gestured.
Eager disciples swarmed forward as he added dismissively, "Work together, avoid traps. Simple task if cautious."
"Gratitude, Senior Brother!" came chorused response.
Ye Yun bowed with others, mind churning. Why mobilize five hundred for "simple" task? Why no array eye details? The tomb’s gentle aura contradicted its lethal reputation. His eyes darkened like stormclouds.
