Chapter 460: A Miracle?
Living’s far better than dying!
Ye Yun materialized mid-air, black-and-white radiance intertwining to halt Zhang Yicheng’s suicidal plunge.
"Who’re you?" Zhang Yicheng spat through gritted teeth. The Yun Hua Sect’s honor had been his lifelong creed – watching fellow disciples slaughter each other went against everything he stood for.
"And you?" Chu Haoran echoed mockingly. "Know who you’re dealing with?"
Eight Yun Hua Sect disciples swiveled their heads in unison, gazes boring into Ye Yun – hopeful, confused, furious.
"A fourth-level Qi refining whelp?" Senior Brother Yi sneered, frost coating his words. "How’d you slip into Thunder Falls Valley? Even with Thunder Avoidance Talismans, it’s near impossible." His plan had been perfect – two more deaths after Zhang Yicheng’s, and survival assured. This interloper ruined everything.
Chu Haoran’s brow arched. "Fourth-level confirmed. Tell me, fledgling – mastered Thunder Spirit Qi? Only explanation for surviving this deep in the valley."
"Thunder Spirit Qi?" Zhang Yicheng’s eyes kindled with sudden hope. He knew what that meant here.
Ye Yun yawned dramatically. "All this bloodsport over what? Some shiny trinket? Dead men don’t need treasures."
"Don’t lecture us!" Zhang Yicheng jabbed an accusing finger at Chu Haoran. "These Xuan Yuan jackals made us butcher ourselves! ‘Only six survive’ – lies! They’d slaughter the rest to hide this sect war brewing!"
Yi Xingshen’s laugh cut like broken glass. "Sect treasures? If we were valued, they’d never send us here! Thunder Wood’s barely worth the higher-ups’ notice. This is mere initiation – survivors get proper training. Your noble suicide? Pathetic!"
"Yi Xingshen! I’ll see you expelled!" Zhang Yicheng roared, face purpling.
The older disciple shrugged. "First, we survive."
Ye Yun cleared his throat. "Done squabbling? What’s this treasure worth dying for?"
"Begone, maggot!" Yi Xingshen barked. "Fourth-level nothings die easy here."
Ye Yun cocked his head at Chu Haoran’s group. "They’re your killers. Yet you threaten me? Curious."
Chu Haoran stepped forward, oil-smooth. "Young master of Thunder Spirit Qi needn’t soil himself. Watch these fools bleed – most amusing."
"Entertaining proposal." Ye Yun’s grin turned wolfish. "Hand over the prize, I’ll vanish. No more meddling."
"The Thundercloud Grass?" Chu Haoran’s mask slipped, revealing cold steel beneath. "Useless to Thunder Spirit adepts. Walk away."
Ye Yun tapped his chin mock-thoughtfully. "Decisions, decisions…" He snapped fingers. "Mine now."
Chu Haoran blinked. Thundercloud Grass offered mere energy replenishment to Thunder Spirit users – yet this youth demanded it? For those untrained in the art, its refined pills could unlock the technique…
"Stubborn fool!" Chu Haoran’s patience shattered. "You saved Zhang? Take his place! Ten become seven – choose your dead!"
Yun Hua disciples exchanged glances. Seven survivors. The fourth-level stranger made perfect first casualty.
Ye Yun chuckled, scratching his nose. "Came to save you, now you’d kill me? Yun Hua’s no better than Xuan Yuan."
Zhang Yicheng stepped between them. "Go! I’ll hold them!"
"Finally, one decent human here." Ye Yun nodded approvingly. "Rest can rot."
"We stand together!" Zhang Yicheng declared.
"Speak for yourself!" Yi Xingshen jeered. "Die if you like! Reaching Ancestorhood requires living, idiot!"
Zhang Yicheng trembled, soul-sick.
Ye Yun clapped his shoulder. "They’re right. Living lets you witness…" He paused dramatically. "…miracles."
"Miracles?"
Ye Yun pointed at Chu Haoran’s trio. "Me slaughtering three fourth-level Golden Cores. Miracle enough?"
Silence. Then Xuan Yuan disciples howled with laughter.
"Genius to fool in one breath!" Chu Haoran’s eyes glinted dagger-sharp. "We’ll enjoy crushing your Thunder Spirit bones!"
Ye Yun beckoned lazily. "Come."
Purple light shadow erupted, rippling like storm-tossed seas.
