Chapter 389: Refusal
His voice boomed like thunder.
"Where is Duan Chenfeng?"
The sound waves rippled outward, swiftly spreading through the palace.
"Who dares shout the prince’s name? You court death!"
_Swish! Swish! Swish!_
In mere moments, four hundred elite guards materialized, encircling Ye Yun. Their leader appeared barely older than Ye Yun himself.
The guard captain froze when his eyes landed on Ye Yun, body trembling faintly.
"Ye… Ye Yun?"
Ye Yun glanced up, brow arched. "You know me?"
"I witnessed your glory at Heavenly Sword Sect, sir." The captain bowed. "Your heroic bearing remains unforgettable."
"Ah, you came with the two princes that day." Ye Yun nodded. "Only sect elites attended – you’re no common soldier. Where’s my sect brother Duan Chenfeng?"
"The king and princes discuss state affairs. Their meeting’s duration remains unclear." The captain kept his head lowered. "Might I inquire your purpose?"
Ye Yun waved dismissively. "Nothing requiring your input. I’ll stroll while waiting. Have Chenfeng find me afterward."
The captain paled. "Sir, the palace grounds…"
Cold eyes pinned him. "You’d restrict me?"
Terrifying pressure erupted instantly, a crashing wave flattening the hundred-zhang radius. Guards quaked silently under the onslaught.
Though not naturally domineering, Ye Yun couldn’t forget Heavenly Sword Sect’s fall involved Jin Kingdom’s hand. That Mei character from Great Qin Empire likely used Jin’s teleportation array – no one would traverse such distance otherwise.
Both Mei’s Du family allies and Jin’s royals had besieged Heavenly Sword Sect for resources. Now at late Foundation Establishment stage, Ye Yun towered above Jin’s remaining forces – their strongest having perished in that battle.
"I… I merely guard my post today." The captain stammered under the pressure. "Any palace rule violations would…"
"Enough." Ye Yun cut him off. "Fetch Duan Chenfeng. I’ll wait here."
As the captain hesitated, new voices interrupted:
"So the Heavenly Sword pup barks here? No wonder your sect fell – undisciplined whelps inviting disaster!"
Princes Duan Yunsha and Duan Hongcheng emerged, both Fifth Level Foundation Establishment experts. They remembered Ye Yun’s Qi Refining stage performance against early Foundation Establishment foes. That explosive power matching Fifth/Sixth Level? Clearly some lifespan-burning desperation tactic – unrepeatable.
"Well, if it isn’t the royal lapdogs?" Ye Yun smirked. "Not cowering after our last encounter?"
"You DARE?!" Duan Hongcheng’s face purpled. No one mocked Jin royalty thus. Their humiliating retreat after the Ancestor’s death still rankled, though months of privilege had restored their arrogance.
Duan Yunsha remained calmer, though shock flickered as he sensed Ye Yun’s Foundation Establishment aura. "Why seek Chenfeng?"
"My brother got whisked here after being sent away. Checking if you’ve mistreated him." Ye Yun crossed his arms.
"Royal affairs don’t concern fallen sect disciples." Duan Yunsha sniffed. "Chenfeng’s a prince now. That old kinship holds no weight."
Ye Yun’s eyes narrowed. With Duan Yan’s golden core inheritance, Chenfeng should be advancing rapidly toward Golden Core stage. Yet no sign of him despite Ye Yun’s thunderous announcement? Guards blocking him? Princes intercepting? Something reeked of conspiracy.
"Fine. I’ll also borrow your Great Qin teleportation array."
"Preposterous!" Duan Hongcheng barked. "No such array exists here! The desert-sea barrier spans a hundred thousand miles! Even if…"
Ye Yun laughed coldly. "First deny me Chenfeng, now the array? How low Heavenly Sword has fallen – that Jin curs dare snap at us!"
"Mind your tongue, brat!" Duan Hongcheng’s murderous intent flared.
"Last chance." Ye Yun’s voice dropped to winter’s chill. "Produce Chenfeng now. We’ll discuss the array afterward."
The very air thickened, pressure mounting like tsunami waves as killing intent crystallized around them.
