Chapter 380: Parting Words
"Rebuild the Heavenly Sword Sect!"
The roar shook the heavens, filled with fierce determination. After this battle, the disciples hadn’t lost hope—instead, their fighting spirit burned brighter. They’d finally glimpsed the vast world beyond their narrow confines.
Ye Yun’s heart swelled with emotion. With such resolve, rebuilding the sect was certain. They’d rise higher than ever, nurturing countless genius disciples and Golden Core experts. The Jin Kingdom was too small; once these disciples matured, their ambitions would outgrow its borders.
"Mother! Father!"
While the group stood shaken, Su Ling—who’d been weeping silently—suddenly screamed. She lunged toward the lingering dust cloud before anyone could react.
Ye Yun instinctively reached for her, but Su Ling moved faster than he’d ever seen, vanishing into the haze.
"Ling’er!" Su Yinxue darted after her, but Ye Yun yanked her back. Su Ling had already entered the Great Demon Divine Art’s lethal zone. He couldn’t let Su Yinxue follow—losing both would devastate Su Hao and Shui Qingxuan.
"I’ll go." Ye Yun shoved Su Yinxue toward Elder Seven and charged into the murk.
Crushing force slammed into him. The pressure gnawed at his mind, stirring dread. Each step felt like wading through mud.
The Great Demon Divine Art’s remnants were weaker now—otherwise, Ye Yun’s cultivation level would’ve killed him instantly.
He trudged forward, true qi draining rapidly. Without reaching Foundation Establishment, he lacked refined spiritual power. Yet his soul’s raw strength let him push out a spirit perception-like probe… or so he thought.
The energy refused to spread. He couldn’t sense beyond his own skin.
"Su Ling! Where are you?" His shout echoed mockingly in the void.
This cursed space! Even weakened, its mysteries dwarfed his understanding.
Blind and deaf, he inched toward where Su Hao and Shui Qingxuan should be. The haze limited his sight to half a zhang. Buzzing filled his ears.
After several li, his true qi halved. Panic rose—he might not even retreat safely now.
The Great Demon Divine Art’s horror lived up to its legends.
"Ancestor!" Ye Yun mentally called the Sword Path Ancestor. No answer. His connection to the Soul Turning Tower was severed. Trapped.
As he gritted his teeth, the haze quivered—then shattered like glass.
Dozens of miles ahead, Shui Qingxuan and Su Hao hovered. Sage Huo Yun was gone, likely reduced to ash.
"Mother! Father!" Su Ling’s cry came from a hundred zhang ahead. Ye Yun stared. How had she moved so far with her weak cultivation?
The oppressive force vanished. Ye Yun blasted forward like lightning—yet Su Ling outpaced him, reaching her parents first. She froze, then burst into heaving sobs.
When Ye Yun arrived, he understood. Their bodies were gone, leaving fading shadows.
"Master! Aunt Xuan! What’s happened?"
Shui Qingxuan smiled. "Using the Great Demon Divine Art demanded our lives. Our bodies are dust. Our spirits linger briefly before eternal dissolution."
Su Hao chuckled. "You’re my greatest mystery, Ye Yun. Your cultivation speed and true qi depth defy reason. If Wuqing was our millennium’s genius, you’re the sect’s greatest enigma. My Life rune may aid your Foundation Establishment."
Ye Yun nodded. No saving them now.
"I’ll protect Ling’er and Senior Sister Yinxue."
"Yinxue’s strong. But Ling’er…" Su Hao glanced at his weeping daughter.
Ye Yun tightened his hold on Su Ling, resolve hardening.
"Ling’er," Shui Qingxuan said, "the Great Demon Divine Art’s methods hide in your blood. Master them when your Demon Race Bloodline awakens. Avoid the Spirit Demon Race. Ye Yun—keep her safe."
Ye Yun bowed deeply. "I swear it."
The couple smiled. Their shadows brightened—then dissolved into starlight.
Su Ling gasped. A blue flicker lit her forehead before she crumpled into Ye Yun’s arms.
