Chapter 368: Dignity of the Golden Core
Even so, Ye Yun and the others felt the relief of surviving a catastrophe. If the Void’s Ten Thousand Forms Palm had been fully unleashed, it would’ve shattered Tian Shen Peak. Though the battle’s outcome remained unclear, most of the palm’s force had been neutralized by Bi Hao and his companions. Even if they lost and faced death and disappearance of the spirit, the palm’s apocalyptic power would’ve already been spent. Such a devastating technique would be nearly impossible for Sage Huo Yun to replicate, even with ample time.
Golden light streaked across the sky, ash choking the air, veiling the world in haze.
When the light faded and the ash settled, Sage Huo Yun stood unmoving in the void, pale but smug. Bi Hao and the others had vanished.
“Now,” Sage Huo Yun’s gaze shifted to Elder Gong and Jiang Chong, “it’s your turn.”
Jiang Chong and Elder Gong had been closest to the blast. The wild strength had nearly crushed them. While Jiang Chong fared slightly better, Elder Jin and Elder Gong’s survival alone was a miracle.
At Sage Huo Yun’s words, Elder Jin trembled violently, truly tasting the terror of impending death.
“Huo Yun,” Jiang Chong rasped, face ghostly pale, “must you wipe us out completely?”
Elder Gong remained silent, icy eyes locked ahead.
Elder Jin suddenly cried out, voice shaking, “Sage Huo Yun—spare me!”
Not a shred of Golden Core expert’s dignity remained. He looked pathetic, moments from kneeling.
Jiang Chong whirled around, furious. Even in death, a Golden Core expert’s pride shouldn’t be sullied. Dignity mattered.
Elder Gong’s cold glare sharpened. His reclusive nature and focus on the Heavenly Sword Sect’s great formation didn’t erode his sense of honor. Elder Jin’s groveling insulted every Golden Core cultivator. Death was preferable to such shame.
Even Sage Huo Yun blinked in surprise.
“Hah! Since you’ve learned humility,” Sage Huo Yun smirked, “I’ll grant you life—if you crawl beneath my junior brother Mei Yansheng’s legs.”
With a flick of force, he yanked the wounded Mei Yansheng from the rubble. The man stood legs apart, grinning weakly.
“Well, Elder Jin?” Mei Yansheng croaked. “Seize this chance.”
Elder Jin’s face purpled, body quaking. Survival at this cost? A Golden Core expert, reduced to this?
“Remember your status,” Elder Gong said coldly. “Supreme Elder of the Heavenly Sword Sect. Act like one.”
Jiang Chong snarled, “You represent all Jin Kingdom’s Golden Core experts today! Crawl, and you’ll never escape scorn!”
“Ignore them!” Mei Yansheng wheezed. “Living poorly beats dying nobly!”
Elder Jin froze mid-tremble. His scattered focus snapped into razor-sharp resolve.
“You dare mock me? DIE!”
He lunged ten zhang, fist crashing into Mei Yansheng’s face before the man could react.
“Elder Brother—!” Mei Yansheng’s plea choked as his skull shattered. His body slammed into a boulder behind the divine hall’s ruins, head buried, legs twitching.
One punch. Instant death.
Sage Huo Yun didn’t flinch.
“Worthless cur!” Elder Jin panted, straightening. “You think I’d endure this?!”
“Good.” Sage Huo Yun clapped, amused. “Had you crawled, I’d have tortured you endlessly. Golden Core dignity isn’t for trampling.”
Elder Jin and Jiang Chong gaped.
“You kept your spine, Old Jin,” Jiang Chong nodded, a glimmer of excitement in his eyes.
Elder Gong simply stared at Sage Huo Yun.
“Since you’ve kept your pride,” Sage Huo Yun raised a palm, fire light flickering, “I’ll make this quick. My Huo Yun’s Shattering Spirit Palm is weaker than the Void’s Ten Thousand Forms Palm, but it’ll suffice. Survive this, and I’ll leave.”
Hope flashed in the three men’s eyes. They exchanged glances, inhaled deeply, and nodded.
