Chapter 362: Gaze Shatters the Illusion
The sword arc flashed like lightning as flames roared toward the heavens.
One Sword Split the Eternal Void!
The entire world vanished, dissolving into nothingness. Between sky and earth, only the sword’s gleam and flames capable of scorching the heavens remained.
All shared the same thought – trapped in this inferno, survival became impossible. When even the world itself melted away, what could possibly endure?
Ye Yun’s mind grew foggy, consciousness slipping away as if he’d accepted his fate, awaiting the flames to reduce him to ash.
The fire drew nearer, yet seemed to burn from within his heart. Surrounded by flames inside and out, escape proved impossible… and undesirable.
Suddenly, a pair of eyes materialized in his mind – obsidian and ivory clarity containing childlike innocence and faint confusion, gazing directly at him.
Ice water seemed to drench Ye Yun’s mind. He jerked awake, scanning his surroundings. No flames surrounded him – only a fiery sword hundreds of zhang ahead, painting the sky crimson as its glow enveloped Bi Hao and others.
Beside him, Elder Seven and Su Hao shuffled forward with glassy stares, trapped in waking dreams.
Illusion!
Panic gripped Ye Yun. Even Golden Core stage Elder Seven had fallen prey. Such potent mental manipulation defied belief.
"Ye Yun! You’re unaffected? Stay sharp!"
An icy voice spoke behind his left shoulder. Turning, he saw Murong Wuqing staring coldly ahead, murderous intent flickering in his eyes.
The illusion hadn’t claimed him either.
Joy surged through Ye Yun. Besides himself, only Murong Wuqing resisted the delusion. Ye Yun knew the Heart of Immortals and Demons had roused him – his natural soul strength and cultivation couldn’t withstand Sage Huo Yun’s sword-born illusion.
Murong Wuqing’s resistance through pure cultivation shocked him. The man’s talent truly staggered belief.
Ye Yun flashed to Murong Wuqing’s side, gesturing at their entranced companions.
"Useless." Murong Wuqing shook his head. "I tried warnings, mental shocks… nothing worked. Curiously, it may have helped you awaken."
He studied Ye Yun with newfound interest. This junior’s resistance surprised him. Murong Wuqing himself relied on mysterious bloodline gifts rather than pure cultivation – unexplained ancestral powers granting immunity to Golden Core stage illusions.
Ye Yun’s brow furrowed. Without intervention, Elder Seven and Su Hao would walk into actual flames. He lunged forward to grab them.
Murong Wuqing’s hand snapped out, blocking him. "They’re besieged by Mental Demons. Forceful awakening brings spiritual collapse – death and spirit dissolution."
"Alternatives?" Ye Yun demanded coldly.
Murong Wuqing remained silent.
Ye Yun inhaled sharply. If even Murong Wuqing lacked solutions…
"Let flames scorch them," the older cultivator murmured. "True fire’s pain might spark momentary clarity. That’s our window for rescue."
The entranced group advanced mechanically. Suddenly, one turned – Shui Qingxuan smiled at Ye Yun.
"Aunt Xuan! You’re awake?"
"Merely observing." The woman glided from the crowd toward them.
Murong Wuqing’s eyes narrowed. "You withstand this illusion?"
"Spirit Demon blood runs through me." Her smile held secrets. "Illusions are our specialty."
"Yet you lack cultivation…" Murong Wuqing pressed. "You perceive our realms, resist peak Golden Core illusions… curious."
Shui Qingxuan’s smile deepened. "What ever do you mean?"
"You’re not entirely powerless," Murong Wuqing accused.
"My veins hold no true qi," she countered. "But racial gifts… those remain private."
As they conversed, Ye Yun’s patience snapped. "Stop chatting! Save them!"
Shui Qingxuan sighed. "He’s right. Premature awakening kills. Only true fire’s pain offers hope."
"And if we fail?" Ye Yun growled.
"Then fate claims them," she said gently.
Ye Yun glared at his master’s retreating back. Inspiration struck – if he could externalize the Heart’s eyes that woke him…
He mentally summoned the Heart of Immortals and Demons, though it rarely obeyed. Yet instantly, yin-yang energy surged between his brows. Those piercing eyes materialized, merging with his own.
Understanding dawned. Ye Yun vaulted forward, landing before the entranced group.
His eyes transformed – purest black and white, crystalline clarity radiating childlike innocence.
Light flashed across his irises, washing over the dreamers.
"WAKE!"
