What confused him was why he’d been chosen over Elder Gong. Elder Gong had vanished when Bi Hao encircled Sage Huo Yun. Perhaps Bi Hao hadn’t spotted him either, hence assigning Elder Jin to the Five Elements Subduing Demons Array.
Bi Hao flicked a pill toward Elder Jin, who caught and swallowed it instantly. The other four promptly consumed their own pills.

Sage Huo Yun’s brow twitched. Even he sensed danger now. The five’s doubled strength amplified the array’s power severalfold. Another Buddha Subduing Demons strike might unleash tenfold force. With his depleted true qi and soul energy, repelling such an attack wouldn’t come easily.
Suddenly, black and white energies swirled above the sage, forming yin-yang fish that sketched a Bagua symbol.

Elder Gong’s voice rang out as he materialized nearby.

Crafted millennia ago by sect experts retreating to Jin Kingdom, this array could repel late Golden Core pursuers, though its activation demanded time and mountains of spirit stones.
Now, with both arrays active and the five boosted by pills, Bi Hao deemed Sage Huo Yun as good as captured.
The sage’s composure cracked. A prodigy who’d reached the Golden Core stage’s sixth level before turning a century old, now half-step past heavenly tribulation toward pill-breaking rebirth, he recognized the twin arrays’ threat.
“To think Jin Kingdom hides such formations,” he mused, tension absent from his voice.
A pea-sized pill glowed white at his fingertip.
“Longevity Condensing Soul Pills?!” Bi Hao blanched.
“You’ve heard of them?” Sage Huo Yun arched an eyebrow.
“Demon Race artifacts,” Bi Hao spat. “Slay Foundation Establishment cultivators, extract their lifespan power through secret techniques—creates pills that boost soul energy and cultivation.”
“Ten thousand victims per pill?!” Jiang Chong gaped.
“Precisely,” the sage confirmed.
Shock rippled through the group. Ten thousand lives for one pill—such monstrous alchemy defied belief.
Ye Yun and Elder Seven were equally stunned, exchanging glances as a massive wave of shock surged within them. Today’s battle had overwhelmed them with too many astonishments.
"Now, do you still dare fight me?" Sage Huo Yun gazed at the Longevity Condensing Soul Pill spinning on his fingertip, looking reluctant. Though his status and cultivation level could easily force five Golden Core stage cultivators to kill themselves, he only possessed two such pills and couldn’t bear to waste one.
"Such cruelty matches demon calamity! You’re human race’s disgrace and must die!" Bi Hao knew peaceful resolution was impossible. Withdrawing the array now would humiliate him publicly. Worse, he saw murderous intent and scornful mockery in Sage Huo Yun’s eyes – even if the sage hesitated to consume the pill, he’d still swallow it eventually and attack.

Yet as the luminous blade descended, Sage Huo Yun showed no fear. Tilting his head back, his eyes blazed with excitement. The pill on his finger had vanished. Flames suddenly engulfed him, coalescing into a flame battle knife that clashed against the falling sword.
With a roar, the sage’s fiery blade disappeared and reappeared intercepting the heavenly sword. The enhanced divine blade froze mid-descent, blocked by the seemingly ordinary weapon.
"Impossible!" Bi Hao yelled. Their doubled cultivation could only last an incense stick’s burning time. Prolonging this stalemate spelled disaster.
The five shouted in unison, channeling all true qi and spiritual energy into radiant beams that infused the heavenly sword.

A devastating shockwave erupted from the colossal blade, sweeping across the mountain. Murong Wuqing, Elder Seven and Su Hao barely shielded Shui Qingxuan and Su Ling, who still got blown back ten zhang before steadying themselves.
The heavenly sword’s divine might seemed unstoppable. Yet when the light faded, the blade remained suspended midair. Beneath it, the three-foot flame knife still glowed defiantly.
"Is this your full power? Disappointing." Pale-faced Sage Huo Yun growled like a beast, his eyes flashing coldly.
