Chapter 317: A Sword Comes from the West
Two sword arcs clashed, unleashing wild strength.
Elder Seven and Yan Changchun, the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect, along with other high-level cultivators, furrowed their brows. After gasping in surprise, they acted together. Streams of light flowed from their palms toward the sky, forming a whirlpool above Ye Yun and Du Jianyin that transformed into a shimmering curtain enveloping them.
Instantly, the wild energy and dazzling light crashed against an invisible barrier, forcibly halted mid-air.
As the light faded, rumbling echoes lingered. Ye Yun and Du Jianyin stood facing each other, five zhang apart.
"Your strength has grown many times since the great tomb. Unexpected," Ye Yun said, suppressing his surging qi.
Du Jianyin’s face paled. After a long pause, he coldly stated, "You’re not just a stumbling block on my Sword Path—you’re my rival. If I don’t slay you, the Sword Path will remain beyond my grasp."
Ye Yun steadied his breathing and grinned. "I hate ‘stumbling block.’ ‘Rival’ works, though I doubt you qualify."
Du Jianyin’s translucent sword vibrated. "Didn’t you sense the sword intent in that strike?"
Indeed, even a sliver of sword intent—akin to Ye Yun’s fire element laws—created an uncrossable chasm for ordinary Foundation Establishment cultivators. Sword intent embodied sword laws.
In the entire Jin Kingdom, true law-comprehending experts could be counted on one hand. Most Foundation Establishment cultivators only grasped chaotic, blended law fragments. Ye Yun and Du Jianyin were different—their laws, though faint, were pure.
Had they fully mastered their respective laws, reaching the Nascent Soul stage after the Golden Core stage would’ve been effortless. But complete law comprehension was near-impossible now, unlike in ancient times when spiritual energy flourished.
Du Jianyin’s sword intent—a wisp of sword law—shocked the Jin Kingdom. No wonder Du Chuntian swelled with pride.
"That unformed sword intent couldn’t even scratch me." Ye Yun shrugged.
The strike had been formidable. Even after countering with Thundercloud Lightning Sword’s third style, Ye Yun’s qi still churned. Yet he now understood—Du Jianyin barely touched the Sword Path’s threshold. Sword laws naturally produced such fierce attacks.
"Arrogant fool!" Du Jianyin’s expression frosted over.
"Remember your ‘Heavenly Blade Strike’ technique? Use it with sword intent—might actually impress me." Ye Yun smirked like a mentor evaluating a student.
Du Jianyin’s sword twitched at the taunt.
"Cease!" Elder Seven’s voice rumbled through the divine hall, effortlessly dissolving their murderous intent. "You dare brawl in the Heavenly Sword Sect’s hall?"
Both youths stared in shock at the elder’s overwhelming power.
"I’ll spare you today," Du Jianyin finally spat. "But after this—"
"Why wait?" Ye Yun interrupted. "Let’s fight now. Your Leader Du can battle our elder while I handle you."
"What elder deserves to face my leader?" Du Jianyin sneered. "Only Sect Leader Yan Changchun is worthy."
Ye Yun chuckled. "The Heavenly Sword Sect leads the Jin Kingdom. Our sect leader outranks your second-rate Du family. Fine—we’ll send a Vice Sect Leader instead. Fair enough?"
"Insolent!" shouted Du family disciples.
"Enough, Ye Yun." Elder Seven raised a hand. "You came for Su Ling. She won’t take the End of the Demon. Leave before nightfall."
The crowd stiffened. Du Chuntian hadn’t expected such bluntness.
"Sect Leader Changchun," Duan Hongcheng demanded, "will you defy the world?"
"The Demon Race Bloodline’s awakening threatens us all," Du Chuntian pressed. "Even a Qi refining girl could become unstoppable."
Yan Changchun smiled. "This matter exceeds my authority. Consult Peak Master Su Hao, Elder Seven, and Elder Shi."
"You evade responsibility!" Du Chuntian accused.
"If you say so." The sect leader’s calm reply stunned everyone.
Du Chuntian turned to the princes. "Your Highnesses?"
"The Heavenly Sword Sect resists?" Duan Hongcheng growled. "Then Jin’s army will—"
"Will what?" Elder Seven’s glare silenced him.
"—crush your sect for humanity’s sake!"
Elder Seven laughed harshly. "Come try. Perhaps Jin needs new rulers."
"Treason!" The princes reddened with rage.
Ignoring them, Elder Seven stared westward through hall walls. "Du Chuntian… your sword arrives."
A teal streak pierced the horizon—a man riding a glowing great sword, hands clasped behind his back.
A sword comes from the west!
