Chapter 315: Du Chuntian’s Scheme
"Has the sword from the west arrived?"
Elder Seven’s words exploded like thunder in everyone’s ears. The sword from the west? Was this the blade foretold in the prophecy – "When demon calamity arises, a sword comes from the west"?
Though not widely known, this saying had circulated for millennia. Every sect leader, inner elder, and royal representative present possessed status high enough to access Jin Kingdom’s deepest secrets.
"When demons emerge, a sword comes from the west." The prophecy had grown more urgent these past two years, hinting at imminent fulfillment. While figures like Elder Yin dismissed it, the royal family couldn’t ignore the threat – the Duan dynasty’s rule would collapse if the Demon Race returned.
The Heavenly Sword Sect had prepared for over a year. Those at higher cultivation levels sensed the laws of heaven more keenly, their danger perception surpassing ordinary warriors. Sect leaders had initiated disciple trials to strengthen their forces against looming disaster.
Now the crisis seemed less dire. Su Ling appeared merely an insignificant girl with diluted Demon Race Bloodline. What real threat could she or this "sword from the west" pose?
Elder Seven’s arrival shattered Yan Changchun’s assumptions.
While ordinary disciples knew little of Elder Seven, sect leaders understood his unfathomable power. Neither Yan Changchun nor Elder Shi, nor even their retired Supreme Elders could gauge his true cultivation level – sometimes early Foundation Establishment, sometimes peak stage, ever shifting.
The only person who dared scorn Elder Shi, Elder Seven considered him beneath notice.
"Explain yourself, Elder Seven." Du Chuntian set down his wine cup, rising slowly.
"That western sword was your scheme with the royal family!" Elder Seven retorted, hands clasped behind his back. "A greedy ploy to steal our sect’s Secret Vault! You think that prophecy nonsense justifies your actions?"
"I respect your seniority, but mind your accusations." Du Chuntian’s calm mask nearly cracked under Elder Seven’s piercing gaze.
Five years of secluded cultivation using heavenly materials and earthly treasures had brought Du Chuntian to Foundation Establishment’s pinnacle, one step from condensing his Golden Core. His visit aimed to seize any treasure aiding his ascension.
The "western sword" referred to his secret weapon – a Golden Core stage swordsman puppet. Ten years prior, he’d lured this Great Qin Empire expert with feigned humility, absorbing the master’s Dao insights before poisoning and enslaving him through secret techniques.
Elder Seven’s knowing stare confirmed he’d uncovered this scheme.
"Enough jokes," Du Chuntian forced calm. "We’re here about the Demon Race, not petty squabbles."
"Brave words from a coward!" Elder Seven leapt before Yan Changchun, who flushed with embarrassment at this public disrespect.
"Elder Seven," Yan Changchun whispered urgently, "the prophecy might be genuine…"
"I know truth from lies," the elder cut him off. "That man controls a Golden Core puppet."
Yan Changchun’s brow furrowed. A Golden Core combatant changed everything.
"Stay back," Elder Seven ordered. "Let me measure these intruders’ mettle."
The sect leader retreated reluctantly as Elder Seven turned to Elder Shi. "Shi Zhengrong! Prove your worth for the Sect Leader position by defeating Su Hao outside the divine hall. Flee if you dare!"
Su Hao stepped forward smiling. "An excellent proposal."
Elder Shi’s face darkened. As late-stage Foundation Establishment expert wielding two Divine Talismans, refusal meant eternal humiliation. "You court death!" The talismans blazed with light.
"Wait." Du Chuntian’s interruption froze the confrontation. "Before settling internal disputes, shouldn’t we address the demon threat?" He approached Su Ling, producing a swirling pill. "This harmless test could actually benefit you, child."
"This is Heavenly Sword Sect’s affair!" Ye Yun interjected. "We’ll conduct our own End of the Demon test."
Du Chuntian’s eyes narrowed. Pressure radiated from him – yet the inner disciple stood firm, robes undisturbed.
"So you’re Ye Yun," Du Chuntian recovered smoothly. "Jianyin mentioned you."
Ye Yun tensed. The mad Du youth obsessed with Sword Path…
"Du Jianyin’s here too?"
