Chapter 312: Sword Across the Chest
"I will not agree!"
Su Hao’s voice thundered, sharp as lightning.
The crowd froze in disbelief. Did Su Hao truly declare his refusal?
Silence gripped the hall. All present sensed the impending storm. None had anticipated Su Hao’s outright defiance. What madness drove him?
"Peak Master of the Shadowless Peak, consider the greater good of the human race," Prince Hong urged, his voice laced with coldness.
"If our race’s foundation could crumble because of one little girl," Su Hao countered with a smirk, "then such a foundation deserves laughter."
"Prince Yun and I bear the Emperor’s decree. Do you dare defy it?" Prince Hong’s tone turned glacial.
Su Hao barked a laugh edged with scorn. "Since when does the royal family meddle in Heavenly Sword Sect affairs? Your jest falls flat, Prince Hong."
"Choose your words carefully, Brother Su," warned Prince Yun, his face darkening.
Unflinching, Su Hao replied, "The Jin royal house lacks the strength to interfere here. Had you uttered such nonsense in the Du family, you’d be crawling through the gates. Isn’t that right, Leader Du?"
Duan Yunsha’s expression hardened, eyes glinting with murderous intent. "Then we’ve nothing left to discuss. Second Brother—"
Prince Hong raised a hand, addressing Sect Leader Yan Changchun. "This decision rests with you."
Yan Changchun frowned. The girl’s potential Demon Race Bloodline mattered little to him personally. Even if awakened, subduing a mere Qi refining stage disciple would be trivial. Were he not sect leader, he’d ignore this farce entirely. Yet history couldn’t be dismissed—the last Bloodline Awakening two millennia past had rivers running red.
"Have you forgotten the calamity of 2,300 years ago?" Prince Hong pressed. "Must we repeat those blood-soaked errors?"
Du Chuntian swirled his wine cup. "Why hesitate over some lowly disciple?"
Yan Changchun shot him a venomous glare. Easy words from one whose house stood untouched.
"Were this my kin," Du sneered, "I’d strike without blinking."
"Cold-blooded butcher or righteous executioner?" Su Hao challenged, arms folded.
"Merely practical," Du shrugged. "Useless disciples warrant no sentiment."
All eyes turned to Yan Changchun as silence stretched.
"Shadowless Peak Master," Prince Hong intoned gravely, "this transcends fatherly love. The sect’s fate—nay, humanity’s future—hangs in balance."
Yan Changchun’s resolute gaze settled on Su Ling. "Let her take the pill. The bloodline remains unproven."
Su Hao’s laughter shook the hall. "What care I for kingdoms or causes? A true man protects his family first!"
*Clang!*
A pale blade materialized in his grip, singing its metallic hymn.
"To reach my daughter," he declared, steel glinting, "you tread through my corpse."
He held his sword horizontally before his chest, his piercing gaze sweeping across the crowd. Not the slightest fear showed in his eyes.
"Daddy!"
Su Ling froze momentarily before desperately clutching Su Hao’s arm. Tears poured down her cheeks like scattered pearls.
The hall fell deathly silent. No one dared make a sound.
None had anticipated Su Hao’s unyielding stance. The crowd stood frozen in shock.
"Peak Master of Shadowless Peak!" Elder Shi’s furious voice boomed. "Do you understand your actions?"
"Brother Su Hao," Duan Yunsha added gravely, inhaling deeply, "have you considered the consequences?"
"Let’s discuss this calmly," Elder Yin’s wavering voice echoed through the divine hall. "This concerns a human life—we shouldn’t act rashly."
Su Hao remained steadfast, sword still raised. His eyes betrayed no hesitation.
Yan Changchun stepped forward, studying Su Hao intently. "Your decision is made?"
Su Hao answered with a firm nod.
Yan Changchun’s shoulders slumped as if drained of strength. Shaking his head, he retreated to his seat with a heavy sigh.
"Seize Su Ling!" Elder Shi roared, leaping down with a silver blade blazing with true qi. "Administer the End of Demon to test her blood!"
Four green-robed disciples lunged from the sides.
"Fools!" Su Hao snarled. A flick of his sleeve sent four light-projectiles flying.
The disciples flew backward like broken kites, blood spraying as they crashed unconscious to the floor.
"Treason!" Elder Shi thundered. "Kill them both!"
Ten white-clad disciples stormed in. At their forefront stood Ouyang Wentian of Absolute Sword Peak and Chen Tianyun, Tian Shen Peak’s eldest brother. Both radiated the sixth level of Foundation Establishment power. Their eight companions—all fifth level elites—moved in practiced formation.
The circle closed around father and daughter.
Princes Hong and Yun exchanged glances and retreated. Du Chuntian remained seated, calmly sipping wine.
"Stop this madness!" Elder Yin hobbled forward.
"Stay your ground!" Elder Shi’s thunderous shout froze the old woman mid-step. Humiliation burned in her eyes as she stomped her dragon-headed cane and withdrew.
"Kneel and live," Elder Shi coldly offered.
Su Hao laughed bitterly. "Elder Shi the Hound! You’ve waited years for this pretext. But you’ll take my daughter only over my corpse!"
"Kill them!"
Blades flashed as Ouyang Wentian and Chen Tianyun drew steel. Ten swordpoints encircled the pair.
Elder Shi slashed his hand downward.
The air exploded with blazing sword arcs weaving a lethal net above the targets.
Su Hao’s eyes blazed with fierce light. "Now witness my true power!"
His pale-green sword hummed as a radiant arc pierced the heavens.
